AMHERST conducts talk with pharmacy students
Amherst Laboratories, Inc. held a lecture attended
by senior Pharmacy students of the University last 2
July 2009. The one-hour lecture was conducted by Ms.
Eloisa Casis and Mr. Misael Cullano, both from
Amherst.
The speakers shared that Amherst Laboratories,
Inc., subsidiary of United Laboraties, Inc., is a state-ofthe-art
pharmaceutical plant located at Mamplasan,
Biñan, Laguna. They also informed the students that
the inauguration of Amherst Laboratories was led by
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

is a 1.7 Billion Pharmaceutical Plant. It’s
administrators are seeking to hire competent
individuals who are interested to be part of the
young, dynamic, and talented workforce in
pharmaceutical industry.
Amherst Labotatories, Inc. visits different
schools of Pharmacy in Luzon, Visayas and
Mindanao to inform senior Pharmacy students that
the company has already existed for almost two
years, and is in need of qualified workers coming

PMT college visits Ginomoy
The college conducted a Medical-Dental
Mission at Brgy. Ginomoy, Alimodian, Iloilo last
21 February 2009. Prof. Mary Ann Corpus,
Coordinator for Community Outreach, managed
and facilitated the said program in coordination
with the Iloilo Dental Society.
Dr. Melvin Gregorio Sumagaysay and Dr.
Adeno Bermejo joined the mission for free and
helped in the assessment and diagnosis of patient’s
health condition. On the other hand, health
lectures about preventive measures and proper use
of herbal plants were delivered by some faculty
members of the college. The Epsilon and
Apothecarian Council officers, together with other
student volunteers participated in tree a planting
activity.
Free medicines like antibiotics, antidiarrheals,
antihypertensives, cough and cold preparations,
multivitamins and minerals were distributed to the
residents of the barangay.
One of the goals of the college is to provide the
best care possible to the people of Ginomoy, its
adopted barangay. Through this outreach program,
the calling and pride of both pharmacy and medical
technology profession as members of the health care

COLLEGE OF NURSING
Nursing students top city-wide research tilt
Augustinian student-researchers from the
College of Nursing topped the first Inter-school
Nursing Students’ Research Contest held at the
De Paul College on 08 April 2010, and earned
for the University its first research award in the
field of nursing.
“Guava Leaves Decoction: Its Healing Effect
on Diabetic Foot Ulcer among Diabetic Clients
from San Miguel, Iloilo,” was the title of the
research paper of the group that garnered an
average score of 86. 30 per cent and won first
place in the contest.
The research group was composed of Kevin
Villa (group leader), Emmanuel Barcelona,
Marjoelyn Calico, Gladys Dorilag, Lowie
Gumawag, Jade Ann Jayme, Ma. Ruthelia
Majano, and Noreen Mae Orquinasa. The
research adviser was Ms. Lorna Badian, R.N.
