of Sto. Tomas, who respectively talked about religious
values in learning and the implementation of new
technology in the classroom, better known as “elearning.”
CTGP was originally founded in 1957 as a
Catholic Action organization mandated by the
Archdiocese of Manila. It is a member of the Union
Mondiale des Enseignants Catholiques (World Union of
Catholic Teachers. (The Augustinian/ UCRP)

College med tech personnel attend lectures
To improve faculty instruction in the field of
medical technology, the college encouraged the
attendance of its medical technology personnel to
a series of scientific lectures.
Last 27 October 2009, the department
conducted a lecture on “Basic Principles of Blood
Group Antibody-Antigen Reactions” at the
University Instructional Media Center (IMC).
The activity was attended by the following:
Rosario Barrido, Consuelo Martina Daza, Zesil
Gay Gelle, Elsa Juanillo, Jose Perez, Lerma Paris,
and Rosemarie Visitacion. The resource person
was Prof. Josephine Milan from St. Louis
University in Baguio City.
The department invited Dr. Mary Giselle S.
Alfeche to share her comprehensive knowledge on
“Blood Components and Their Indications.” The
same personnel attended the talk held at the IMC
on 9 December 2009. They were also at the “Lecture
on Smoking” by Dr. Lorelei Sirilan, conducted on
13 February 2010 at the USA Conference Room.
The lecture was sponsored by the Health and Safety
Committee of the University.
Gelle participated in the “Training on Good
Clinical Practice” last 3-4 December 2009. It was at
the Colegio San Agustin in Bacolod City.
Three professors from the department attended
the lecture-seminar on Pre-Analytical Variables for
Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APPT) and
Communitas
Prothrombin Time (PT), Fibrinogen Degradation
Products and Fibrin, Thrombophilia,
Standardization of Peripheral Correlation of Acute
Leukemias. They were Barrido, Gelle and Paris. Held
at the PHO Conference Room of the Iloilo
Provincial Capitol, the lecturers were Dr. Alejandro
Arevalo and Dr. Rodrigo Domingo. (R.G. Bayuran/

3 Augustinians get PAMET scholarship
After a two-month screening process, three
sophomores taking up Bachelor in Medical
Laboratory Science (B. M.L.S.) got three of the
fifteen slots for the 2009 Philippine Association of
Medical Technologists (PAMET) scholarships.
Allin Joy Emboltura, Jel Ann Suclan, and Iris
Isobelle Sumaculub qualified as national PAMET
scholars after undergoing a series of panel interviews
and an IQ test. As PAMET scholars, they will enjoy
a 100 per cent scholarship, to cover tuition and
miscellaneous fees, from the sponsoring
organization. In addition, they will receive book
allowances until they graduate.
The aspirants were endorsed by the College of
Pharmacy and Medical Technology, basing on their
academic performance and exemplified leadership.
They then joined the top twenty-five applicants for
the final screening.
After being notified by mail that they reached
the final fifteen, Emboltura, Suclan, and Sumaculub
attended the orientation and awarding ceremonies at
the Manila Peninsula Hotel in October 2009.
Procter and Gamble Philippines and the
Philippine Association of Schools of Medical
Technology and Public Health (PASMETH), Inc.
have been granting these scholarships to deserving
students for the past twenty years.
To continue their scholarship, the students need
to abide by these regulations: maintain a grade of at
least eighty per cent in all their subjects, take the
required number of units or subjects prescribed by
the school curriculum, must not accept other
scholarships, must not abandon or relinquish the
study grant or take a leave of absence without
permission, and must not violate school policies
rules and regulations.
