June 2010 PARTNERSHIPS AND EXTENSION
IN CELEBRATION of the
International Human Rights Day,
the Martin de Rada Human Rights
(MdRHR) Bureau at the University
Coordinating Center for Research
and Publications held the 6 th Rada
Human Rights Forum on 10
December 2009 at the USA
Conference Room.
With the theme “Human Rights
of the Youth, Youth for Human
Rights,” the activity was conducted
in partnership with the Commission
on Human Rights-Regional Office
(CHR-RO) 6. It primarily served as a
venue for the presentation of the
Ten-Point Youth Agenda to a panel
composed of representatives from
concerned government agencies. The
activity was attended by various
youth group representatives coming
from different schools and
communities in the island.
Serving as members of the panel
of reactors were: Asec. Raul Banias,
Presidential Assistant for Western
Visayas; Atty. David Bermudo, CHR-

City mayoral candidates last 19
February 2010. Dubbed “Who’s
Ur Mayor: A Forum on Good
Governance,” the event brought
together candidates Raul
Gonzalez, Sr. and Lorenzo “Larry”
Jamora.
Gonzalez and Jamora talked
about their respective platforms
of government. Also, each
introduced his line-up of

Office of the Presidential Adviser
on the Peace Process (OPAPP) Area

The Youth Agenda was
crafted during the Youth
Congress held at the USA
Training Center on 9 December.
Participated in by youth and
student organizations from all
over Panay, the congress provided
USA hosts 2010 mayorables forum
candidates for congressman, vicemayor
and city councilors. During
the open forum, various
questions concerning the youth,
the urban poor, health,
education, as well as peace and
order were asked by the audience.
Each candidate was given two
minutes to answer each question.
The event was attended by
students from the University of
San Agustin as well as from other
schools and universities in the city

a venue for the young leaders to
identify major issues affecting
their sector and to surface
corresponding solutions. Congress
resource persons were Mr. Leo
Satana, Investigator II of CHR-RO
6, and Mr. Patron of OPAPP.
The youth congress and the
forum aimed to encourage the
youth to exercise their right to
participation. The activity was
facilitated by Mona Pico of the
MdRHR Bureau and Sedfrey
Cabaluna of the CHR-RO 6.

Held at the USA Conference
Room, the activity was jointly
organized by the USA Rotaract
Club, the USA Student Council
and the Rotary Club of Iloilo. It
was covered by several media outfits
and was aired live in one of the
local radio stations. Prof. Jigger
Latoza of the College of Arts and
Sciences moderated the forum. (The
