Mae Magbanua bested other
contestants in the 10 th Annual
Regional ROTC Speech Competition
held at the University of Iloilo
Auditorium in October 2009.
All speeches were anchored on
this year’s theme, “ROTC: Preparing
the Youth to Become Better Citizens
and Future Leaders.”
THE UNIVERSITY of San
Agustin Grant-In-Aid Scholars
Association (USAGIASA) was
declared the overall champion in
the 10 th Iloilo City Student
Assistants Association (ICSAA)
Fellowship Day held at the John
B. Lacson Foundation Maritime
University (JBLFMU) late last
year.
With the theme “ICSAA: We
Are One… One in Thought… One
USA ROTC wins reg’l speech title
Magbanua, a B.S. Accounting
Technology II student from the
College of Business Administration
and Accountancy, attributed her
success to the inspiration given by
significant people in her life. “My
father was my number one
inspiration; also, Mr. Elmer Tolosa
and my ‘buddies’ in the ROTC,”
claimed Magbanua. She further said:

“In a contest, the only obligation of
the contestant is to deliver and
perform what s/he had practiced; s/
he should not expect anything in
return.”
Mr. Tolosa was Magbanua’s
trainer. A faculty member in the
University, he is an alumnus of the
USA ROTC and the Red and Gold

Augustinian mentor speaks in PCQACL nat’l confab
PROFESSOR Lerma Paris, R.M.T.,
faculty member from the College of
Pharmacy and Medical Technology,
was one of the resource speakers
during the 6 th National Convention
of the Philippine Council for
Quality Assurance in Clinical
Laboratories (PCQACL) held in
October 2009 at the Century Park
Hotel, Malate, Manila.
An M.S. in Public Health
holder, Paris spoke about
“Intestinal Parasite Diagnosis:
Current Issues and Implications for
Standardization and Quality
Improvement” during the first day
of the convention.
With the theme, “Ensuring
Quality Healthcare through Quality
Laboratory Testing,” the
convention was attended by
pathologists, chiefs of clinical

the fellowship was attended by
delegates from different colleges and
universities in Iloilo City. Contests
were held at the JBLFMU-Arevalo
Gym and JBF Hall.
USAGIASA won the first
place in the following contest
categories: Essay Writing, Logo-
Making, Dance Sports, Body
Painting, Tall Tales, Group
Impersonation, Vocal Solo, Lip
laboratories, and medical
technologists nationwide.
Modern clinical laboratories
are considered important
components of Medical and
Public Health Services. The

in the health services, especially
in the diagnosis and

Modeling. It won the second
place in Verse Choir; and the
third place in Vocal Duet and
Spelling Bee contests. Carmille
Leuterio was crowned Ms. ICSAA
2009; Jeinard Lerona was hailed
Mr. ICSAA 1 st Runner-Up.
USAGIASA bested six other
organizations from other schools
