The bridge to technology
The Imbema Group combines high-tech products with a professional
organisation of motivated advisers in its search for solutions
to meet its customers’ wishes. The Group consists of
technical trading companies.
The group originated in 1947, when Imbema N.V. (Internationale
Metaalbeschermingsmaatschappij – International Metal
Protection Company) acquired the exclusive right to
represent Densoband – a tape designed to protect
underground and aboveground pipelines. Imbema,
as the company was called, initially focused primarily
on gas and water pipes. With the corrosion-resistant
Densoband the company created a basis for itself
that was as solid as a rock - a basis that gave it the
confidence to expand its activities into other fields
- sealing technology, process control technology
and gas detection technology. This marked the
birth of the company’s Industrial Division.
Our aim to create a sound, broadly based
group prompted diversification. The takeover,
in 1983, of IRA Verkoopmaatschappij B.V.
enabled us to establish our Wholesalers
Automotive Parts Division. Our desire to
play a part in the bodywork construction
industry of the Benelux led to the takeover
of Rhiwa-Beheer B.V. in 1987, and the
establishment of our Transport Division.
The interplay of forces between a customer
and a supplier is most aptly symbolised by
“Newton’s cradle”, based on Newton’s third
law. Action and reaction are inextricably
linked. Newton’s cradle symbolises the way in
which Imbema listens to its customer’s wishes,
interprets them and passes them on to the
suppliers. The resulting action is followed by a
reaction that is intended to lead to an agreement.
Imbema continuously actively involves its busi-
ness partners in its enterprises – in an innovative,
reliable manner. Imbema knows that its customers
will keep coming back for further cooperation
because they appreciate the company’s highly
successful efforts to bridge the gap between customers
and suppliers by constantly providing new impulses.

Vision and quality
The Imbema Group’s vision is to meet the demand for high-quality technical
products in the markets in which the group is active. In composing our
product range we also consider the products’ environmental aspects.
The Imbema Group aims to secure
the company’s continuity, and hence
the employees’ and business
relations’ commitment, by spreading
its activities over three divisions –
our Industrial, Transport and Whole-
salers Automotive Parts Division.
Our philosophy is to employ and
maintain only products and
systems of the highest quality.
This is the guiding principle of the
Imbema Group’s quality system,
which not only focuses on our
own quality approach, but also
relies on the quality systems
formulated by our suppliers.
The Imbema Group’s activities
are not restricted to importing,
stocking and distributing products
and systems alone. Other key
concerns to which our group owes
its added value and reputation for
high quality are the technical service
and practical advice we provide,
the training courses we organise
– at our customers’ premises if so
desired –, our efforts to encourage
our suppliers to engage in product
development and the aftercare we
provide.

Industrial Division
Piping technology is the core business of our Industrial Division.
With a wide range of products, Imbema plays an essential part in
the distribution of gas, water, heat and electricity throughout
the Benelux.
The Imbema Group has acquired a
reputation as a driver for technical
innovation. We use our in-house
technical expertise and impulses
from our customers to develop new
applications. By inspiring suppliers
with our enthusiasm for innovation,
we bridge the gap between
manufacturers and consumers.
With these efforts in the field of
product development, supplemented
with efficient customer advice
and optimum logistics, Imbema’s
Industrial Division has earned the
company an excellent reputation
as a reliable partner in energy and
piping technology, construction,
civil engineering, the process
and petrochemical industries
and industry in general.
Corrosion protection

Over the years, our company
expanded its range from the
aforementioned corrosion-
protection products that
constituted its basis to include
a broad selection of products
intended for the piping sector.
Our Industrial Division’s activities
now consequently also comprise
the transport of gas and water,
the technology regarding connec-
tions in the mains system, and
measuring and controlling the media
that are piped through the system.
The division aims to be represented
in the Netherlands and/or Belgium.
Due to our historical background,
we also supply some of our
products to the Indonesian market.

Having started its activities with sealing products for piping
systems, the obvious next step for our Industrial Division
was to supply sealing products for use in construction.
We offer contractors a wide range
of products for use in construction.
Over the years our construction
sector has expanded its activities
to include structural heating and
chimney technology, too.
Our group’s expertise and advice
enable our customers to make
optimum use of the products
to be used.
We have diversified our production
lines so as to be able to offer
our customers a broad selection
of products for highly specific
applications, such as floor
underlays, sound-reducing
products, chimney structures
and concrete pump hoses.

The Imbema Group also supplies
a wide range of products for
civil engineering applications.
Our excellent contacts with the
Dutch Directorate for Public Works
and Water Management, other
national and local authorities and
civil engineers have enabled us to
compose a carefully-selected
product range geared specifically
to this market. The Imbema Group
has the expertise required to meet
any challenge in the fields
of corrosion control, bearings,
separation of ground, transitional
structures for joints, dike improve-
ment and sealing.

Over the years, the Imbema Group has evolved into a highly valued
environmental partner for the process industry. The products we
supply to companies active in the process industry are equipment
for gas detection and gas analysis and instruments for measuring
and analysing the quantity and quality of liquids.
The Imbema Group also occupies a
leading position in the transport of
media (substances) and in measu-
ring, controlling and filtering in
production processes. Our high-
quality products are moreover
increasingly often used in the
production processes of food,
in which the specifications of
the employed products must
meet the food industry’s particu-
larly stringent requirements.
In this market segment the
Imbema Group’s added value is
evident from the support we give
the engineering specialists and our
extensive service department.

The diversity of our Industrial
Division and the innovative power
of the Imbema Group as a whole
are probably best illustrated
by our products and systems
for general industrial use.
Good examples of those products and
systems are our range of personal
protection devices for the food industry
and the sports and leisure sector
and our selection of foam substances
for the plastic-processing industry
intended for use in the medical sector,
the sports and leisure sector and
the packaging industry.

Transport Division
Our Transport Division is a leading supplier in the vehicles sector in
the Benelux and a stable factor in the market. Of great importance
are good relations with both customers and suppliers – our Transport
Division collaborates with both parties in organising the development
and manufacture of products geared to meet its customers’ wishes.
In response to changes in the
market our Transport Division
rapidly evolved from a traditional
trading company into a highly-
valued partner with added value.
Inspired by the ‘Lean Production’
trend, the division has developed
smart logistic solutions under
the motto “we, and not our
customers, are responsible
for keeping parts in stock”.
Our Transport Division comprises
a sanding department and a
body construction department.

Supplying “everything above
the wheels”, our body
construction department has
since its establishment grown
into the most specialised
supplier in the bodywork and
trailer-construction sectors.
The department also has a
lot of expertise in the field
of aluminium profiles.
Being intimately familiar with this
market, our body construction
department optimally understands
its customers’ problems and wishes.
The members of our field service
are therefore out on the road
every day, travelling to customers
to advise them on which products
they should use to achieve the best
results. Developing tailor-made
solutions to specific problems is
increasingly becoming one of the
division’s most important spheres
of activity.
In order to meet the demand for
assembled products the body
construction department also has its
own assembly unit. Here, products
such as rear doors, sliding roofs,
side panels and front and rear
frames are assembled according to
customers’ wishes. More and more
customers are regarding our

The Transport Division’s
sanding technology depart-
ment supplies sanding
materials for the damage-
repair sector, the wood
and plastics industries and
the painting market.
Its broad range of sanding materials
comprises sanding discs, bands and
rolls and custom-made sanding
belts. The department also supplies
a selection of high-quality cleaning
and polishing systems. A range
of seam and sealing materials
produced in-house under our own
label and a programme of safety
couplings make the sanding
technology department a most
reliable partner for several markets.

The warehouse
Transport Division
Central Benelux warehouse
The Transport Division has an efficiently organised warehouse
where 6500 products are kept in constant supply. Products
ordered within the Benelux are usually delivered within 24 hours.
Our van drivers travel a fixed weekly
route through the Benelux for the
delivery of voluminous orders such
as building kits, doors and the like.
An efficient logistic organisation
enables the Transport Division to
supply its products at arm’s length
prices and on market terms.

Our Wholesalers Automotive Parts Division has an extensive programme comprising 40,000 articles
with which it can almost completely meet its customers’ demands. The division offers franchise
car dealers, independent garages and fleet owners a full range of car parts, tyres, equipment and
accessories, plus workshop services. The majority of the articles are available from stock. Any other
article will be delivered within one working day. The division sells only spare parts of original quality.

A broad range of high-quality
products alone is however not
enough for ensuring a sound
customer-supplier relation. You
need some form of added value,
too – and in the case of our
Wholesalers Automotive Parts
Division you’ll find that added
value in the division’s high standard
of service.
The division has a highly motivated,
excellently trained staff that inspires
great confidence in the division’s
products and services among its
customers. The division supports
its customers in practice via
three unique selling points:
- a frequent delivery system:
goods are delivered four times
a day via a fixed route service;
- sound automation, including
electronic catalogues and the
ALDOC electronic ordering
system;
- the availability of specific
workshop services, such as
production of licence plates,
brake and friction service, cylinder
head and engine overhauling.
The Imbema Group’s Wholesalers
Automotive Parts Division consists
of a number of companies that
operate independently but at the
same time also work closely toge-
ther with one another. They have
each acquired a reputation in their
geographical sphere of activity.
The wholesalers are important for
franchise dealers for the range of
supplementary products required
for maintaining vehicles and
preparing used cars for sale.
Specifically for independent
garages, the division has developed
a sales concept based on the AD
Autobedrijf and Bosch Car Service
(BCS) formulas. The main aim of
these formulas is to optimise
communication between garage
owners and car owners. Many
garages lack the means and
opportunities to present themselves
properly. The Wholesalers Automo-
tive Parts Division offers the garage
sector opportunities and tools to
reach their target group, such as
information material, advertising
campaigns and in-store promotion.
This service was developed in
response to the activities organised
by importers for the benefit of their
dealers.

Established in 1970, Autodistribution International (ADI) is Europe’s largest and oldest group of
wholesalers in the spare car parts market. ADI has partners in almost all countries in Western Europe,
a market of more than 300 million consumers, more than 120 million private cars and 20 million trucks.
This means that ADI is able to buy parts, accessories, tools and equipment at very competitive prices.
Since 1990, Autodistribution
Nederland (ADN) has rapidly
evolved into one of the most impor-
tant players in the car parts market.
The 38 wholesaler share-holders
can make use of around 110 sales
points that are supplied from
the warehouse at Oosterhout.
The owners of all-purpose garages
and dealers benefit from the
tremendous purchasing power
enjoyed by the international
organisation on the basis of
the agreements it has made with
manufacturers. The Imbema
Group’s philosophy concerning the
use of only top-quality products is
entirely in line with ADN’s approach,
as ADN’s business activities are
almost exclusively restricted to
manufacturers of top-class products.
ADN has also developed a private
label, under which products of
renowned manufacturers are
marketed in AD packaging.
