Brian and Jessica Reichel – The Reichel Republic
Wow—what an incredibly quick year it has been since the last family reunion! It’s seems crazy that it’s
already time to put together another Wolfe Call. However, given the insanely hot and dry summer we’ve had, I
know that we’re certainly looking forward to the fall season. Although, if you were to ask Brian, he’d say he
was more excited for the return of football than the return of cooler weather and pretty colors! Perhaps the past
year has felt so busy because we’ve traveled so many miles! Since last September, we have traveled over
10,000 miles together including road tripping to Indianapolis in December to see MSU win in the Big Ten
Championship game, cruising the Caribbean in January, driving to Pennsylvania to hang with five of our
favorite people in May, and then finally spending some fun days in very ‘sun burny’ California in July.
We also did quite a bit of travel separately, too. In November, Brian flew out to Arizona to move some
more stuff out of his house out there to make room for new tenants and then drove back home while Jessica
flew to Dallas to spend time with her younger sister in her new city. In March, Jessica traveled to Columbus,
OH, for a work conference and then came home, only to fly out again two days later for another cruise to the
Caribbean with her sister, mother and some sweet family friends. Meanwhile Brian stayed home and was
crushed with sadness by March Madness. All in all, our total miles traveled in the last year were closer to
21,000 – thank goodness that Brian is exceptional at earning credit card rewards, which paid for a majority of
these trips!
We are blessed to have jobs that enable us to enjoy lots of fun times outside of the office. Jessica is still
working for Culinary Services at Michigan State University as the Student HR Manager. Most of her days are
spent working with people interested in getting a job on campus and getting them situated with the right
resource. Brian changed jobs in April and began working as a claims assistant for an insurance group called
ASU Group. ASU Group handles claims processing and insurance adjusting for other insurance companies.
After many years of front-line customer service, Brian is happy to be more of a behind-the- scenes guy dealing
with information as opposed to people!
Our dog, Gus, has been dealing with some pretty scary health problems, but after trying lots of things
our vet recommended, we have finally switched him to a 100% organic raw food diet, and now he eats better
than we do!
Nothing else to report from this homestead—just hoping for some rain between here and the end of the
summer so our yard and flowers won’t die.
See you all in September!
Love, Brian & Jessica
Dennis and Erica Reichel – The PA Reichel Reflections
Hello, Wolfe Family! This year marks an exciting milestone as all three girls go to the same school for a full
day!
MaKayla (10) is entering fourth grade. She enjoyed third grade and continues to enjoy reading and
writing, but her favorites subjects were math and recess! This fall she will start her fifth year of playing soccer;
she plays in a rec league with two practices and one game a week. This was her fourth year in Awana (weekly
Bible club during the school year), and she was challenged greatly in memorizing scripture. It was a fun social
time and a way for her to grow in her spiritual walk. She enjoyed taking piano lessons this year and starts violin
in the fall. Over the summer, she joined the swim team and kept busy with multiple VBS programs, the summer
reading program and took a Lego’s robotic class.

Julia (8) is entering second grade. Julia enjoyed first grade and really blossomed socially and made a lot
of great friends! She also enjoyed being a part of Awana this past school year and taking horseback riding
lessons. Over the summer, she joined the swim team and kept busy with multiple VBS programs, the summer
reading program, summer school and a science day camp. Julia is excited to take horseback riding lessons
again in the fall.
Olivia (6) is entering first grade. Olivia enjoyed her kindergarten program. This was her third year in
Awana. Over the summer, she also joined the swim team and kept busy with multiple VBS programs, the
summer reading program and learned to bike without training wheels. Olivia is excited to take
dance/gymnastics in the fall! This summer all three girls worked hard on swimming skills with our family pool
membership. They also enjoy going to the Farm (our CSA) and helping to pick all the veggies and fruit.
The highlights of our travels this past year included a trip to Disney World in January with Mom, Dad,
Jan, Evan, Brian and Jessica. In June, we went to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. For a week in August, Dennis
and Julia went off to Michigan to visit grandma, grandpa, aunts and uncles while the rest of the family stayed at
home to recover from hair lice (sick). We also fit in a trip to the Dutch Wonderland amusement park before
school started.
We will miss everyone this year!
Love,
Dennis, Erica, MaKayla, Julia and Olivia Reichel
Doug and JoAnn Wolfe – The U.P. Wolfe World
Hello everyone!
Summertime and the living is easy breezy. It’s hot and beautiful in the U.P. of Michigan. We got lucky
and had one of our granddaughters (Addison) for 3 weeks. Also, Jo Ann's mom (Lois) stayed with us for a
week. Then the Shelli family visited for a week. Jo Ann is still working her brains out at the hospital, and Doug
is loafing along selling fish at the local Farmer’s Market. Dennis is still working hard in the world of blown
insulation. Shelli continues to work toward her second degree. Her husband Andrew continues in heating and
cooling in his corner of the world.
Love to all.

5
Jean Wolfe – The Jean Wolfe Junction
It has been a pretty smooth year. I settled into my new home, enjoying the new gardens (all flowers), the
little lake that changes constantly, even in winter, and hosting family events. Hosting family events has helped
make the new house feel like home. I visited Louisiana to see Lindsay and Jack in Oct (still hot there!). I stayed
home for the holidays and had our usual ski trip to northern Michigan in February, which included Drew, Mara,
Lindsay, Jack, a niece, great niece and a friend. We have all skied together for years. We could only work out
one full day of skiing, and there were blizzard conditions. We skied anyways (big adventure!). Jack even
learned to snowboard in the crazy weather.
I went to Oregon for Dave and Clyde's birthdays in Feb, visited friends in southern OR, and then visited
friends and family in Arizona. My family all returned to Oregon in June and stayed at the coast for five days. It
is so beautiful and fun for the kids to run on the beach, explore tide pools and have bonfires.
Dale's store is going strong. Next year will be the 70th anniversary of Dale's and the 30th year for Dale's
Natural. I am honored and humbled to be a part of this legacy. I work three days a week while Drew and Mara
do the heavy lifting. We are in the process of having a POS system installed. I can still see Don adding up items
on a paper bag, shaking the bag out and putting the merchandise in it! Things have certainly changed over the
years. Church, family and friends balance and fill my life. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone!
~ Jean
Len and Sarah Reichel – The Reichel Record
Hi Family,
It is with pleasure that we think about how close the time is for the reunion! And we look forward to
reading all the annual updates from near and far.
Len and I have had a good year, quite similar to previous years. We keep busy with family, friends,
church activities and travel. Len is still working his on-call engineering job, but the days of work are infrequent.
That has allowed him more time to golf this summer! He continues to lead a monthly nursing home worship
service that is welcomed by the residents. There also seems to be no lack of home projects that need doing.
I have completed the BSF Revelation study that attracted 500,000 men, women and children around the
world. I enjoy helping and being with friends, and keeping in touch with family. We have used our vacation
plan several times this year, traveling to PA, Orlando, Charlevoix, Panama City Beach and Gatlinburg. The
biggest highlight was having the family at Disney World in January. MaKayla, Julia and Olivia were just the
right ages to enjoy all it offered. Brian and Jessica were with us one day, and Janna and Evan had four days with
us. We were glad to be at Dennis and Erica's with Brian and Jessica on Memorial Day weekend. This coming
weekend, August 6 th , all of them were here as Dennis, Erica and girls visited for a week. We had fun attending
Zach and Mallory's wedding that Saturday, too.
I am recovering well from a mastectomy on July 11, necessitated by another cancer diagnosis. I am also
in process of a tooth implant. Compared to so many, I will not complain.
Love, Sara & Len
Ben and Megan Salazar – The Salazar Sentinel
Hey Wolfes! We hope you are all well, and we are pumped to see you all at the reunion! This year has been a
busy one for us! The day we got home from the reunion last year, we found out that we were expecting our second child!
Liam Benjamin was born May 3 rd earlier this year. It has been a crazy transition time with two kids that are 19 months
apart. But we are finding our groove.

Lucy loves her baby brother and calls him “brother.” She gives him lots of kisses each day which follows with her
saying, “Oh, nice.” She has had a lot of fun this year at Chippewa Lake going on “Bumpboo’s” (Grandpa’s) boat for ice
cream, playing on the beach and in the water, and most of all playing with her cousins. She especially has a special
attachment to Lily who she calls “Lulily.” Liam is a smiley, happy, healthy baby. He loves smiling and talking to people
and being snuggled. He sure is becoming quite the chunker!
Along with his job at the school, Ben has recently added some part time work to his schedule doing an anger
management group for juvenile teens as well as some contractual therapy work through his old job. He is getting a lot of
experience in his field, which he hopes will open some new opportunities down the road. We’ve enjoyed adding two new
members to the family this year with Zach and AJ’s marriages! Our family is getting big, and it’s a lot of fun!
We are pumped to see you all!
Lots of love ~ Ben, Megan, Lucy and Liam
Bill Phillips - The Bill Phillips Banner
Report from Cell #301…
I was visiting with Greg today and looking through pictures of
his grandkids while he tried to pry something out of me for the
Wolfe Call. We decided on a picture. In the spirit of what we
have learned about age and grandkids, and my sense of humor,
here is the latest picture of me at 5123 weeks, or 1181 months,
or 98 1/2 years. After our 50th wedding anniversary, I would
say, "Evah and I have been married 100 years, 50 each."
Greg and Mary Jane Phillips – The GMJ Report
If you want to know what we've been up, to all you have to do is read the last ten Wolfe Calls. It's the simple
life and in the interest of time, our adventure: GRANDKIDS! They make our hearts soar and our bodies ache
but we would have it any other way!
Joe and Theresa Phillips – The Phillips Forum
DISCLAIMER: We likely won't be at the reunion this year, but for good reason. We are expecting in early
September - a boy! It has been an exciting, whirlwind year. Theresa is wrapping up her nursing classes and
plans to begin working at a hospital in downtown Grand Rapids after the baby is born. Joe completed a
successful first year teaching "Design Lab" a new high school class focusing on teaching students to solve
problems using science, technology, engineering, and math.

Lily finished Kindergarten this past year, and Violet will start preschool in the fall. Both girls love
learning and are excited for school. Hazel turned two and always amazes us with her joy and smiles. Both Lily
and Violet took swimming lessons this summer and will both go to soccer camp before the summer ends. Over
the past few months, we were able to spend quite a bit of time at Chippewa lake visiting with family and
relaxing, too. We will miss everyone this year and look forward to reading about everyone's adventures!
7
Seth and Hannah Wiles – The Wiles Watchman
Seth and I have been married for one year now, and what an eventful year it was! We certainly
discovered a lot more about each other and ourselves since we have been married. It has been awesome to see
God slowly changing our hearts, to become more like His Son, using the tool of marriage.
We bought a huge project (some call it a house, but we’ve heard
it both ways) last May and have been working on it ever since.
We now have a fully functioning living room and couches!
Slowly but surely, our house is starting to come together. We
won’t always have drywall in the entryway, green carpet in our
bedroom, or burnt orange walls. When we are finished we hope
to have a beautiful home, Chip and Joanna Gaines- approved.
On the days when we (and by “we,” I mean Seth…he is the handy man!) are not stuck inside putting up
drywall, plumbing the laundry room, or painting we love to spend time by the lake! Seth’s new and favorite
hobby is fishing. We enjoyed our holidays as husband and wife in our own home. We even hosted the annual
Phillips Christmas Party!
We were happy to welcome two lovely new ladies into the Phillips family this year! And a handsome
little man, too!! Another baby boy will be joining the craziness on the Wiles side this December. Both sides of
our family just keep growing! Seth and I are getting lots of practice with these kiddos before it is our turn ;)

8
Between all the bridal showers, weddings, birthday parties, and the honey-do list, we have kept busy!
We look forward to having more time to relax this fall…oh wait.
Love,
Seth and Hannah Wiles
Steve and Marlene Phillips – The Phillips Files
Well, as I sit to write this year’s Wolfe Call letter (Monday August 1 st ), Marlene and I are on the brink
of accepting a new family member. Zachery and Mallory’s wedding is this coming weekend, August 6 th . A.J.
and Kaylin’s wedding was eight weeks ago. This is very exciting for Marlene and I how our family is growing.
It is also great to have Ben and Megan close. We get to see Lucy and Liam quite often. Wow, this grandparenting
gig is pretty cool!
I am still racing my Hodaka motorcycle in the Michigan Vintage Motocross Series. At this point in the
series of races, I am tied for third place. I was hoping to move up at least one from last year. Time will tell if I
can squeeze my Kawasaki nemesis, enemy, competitor and friend Randy Stone out! In 2015, I was fourth in the
state in the 125cc Iron Man Class. This has been a blast for me!
Something very special happened in January: Our next door neighbor at Chippewa Lake approached us (over two
years ago) asking if we would be interested in buying their cottage-our families go back four generations. This January,
we closed and now including Greg, Brian’s and the Kosibas, we have five cottages in a row that are family. This has
definitely helped with our growing family, especially during the Fourth of July holiday.
Many of Marlene’s family were over for a gathering this past Sunday. Marlene’s nephew, Addison, mentioned the
heart and clevis (see above, right) we had made a couple years ago broke. So, we went out to my workshop and we built
another one. As we were making the new one, he mentioned that he used the first one for show and tell at school. That
made my day! Let’s not forget to pass down these Wolfe Family traditions to the next generations.
~ Stephen and Marlene

Zach and Mallory Phillips – The Zephyr
As always, I am looking forward to the reunion. A lot has changed since last year's gathering, and a lot has
stayed the same. Working with my dad at the agency has continued to be engaging. My book of business continues
to grow steadily, and I continue to work on ways to increase the pace of that growth. So, not much has changed
there.
The biggest life change happened after I bought a ring last fall. In October, I asked my then-girlfriend,
Mallory, to be my wife and…she said "Yes!” Since that time, life has been a bit different in a great way. As I write
this in early August, Mallory and I are preparing for our wedding this upcoming Saturday and trying to get as much
work done on the house as possible before the big day. I am looking forward to everyone meeting her!
Glen and Becky Alt – The Alaska Account
Dear Family,
During our engagement, both Mallory and I
had the opportunity to travel back to Africa,
me to East Africa and her to West Africa. I
left early December and was gone for a
couple of weeks to attend a graduation of
417 pastors that completed the community
development program we started there. I was
also able to travel to Zanzibar to plant
schools when our flight to Burundi was
cancelled due to civil unrest. Five days after
I returned from East Africa, Mallory flew
out to Guinea, West Africa, to help organize
a medical clinic and introduce the
community development curriculum. Her
aunt and uncle have been missionaries there
for decades, so she was in good hands.
Mallory was in Guinea for five weeks and
was able to get a lot done in a short amount
of time. The way she loves people and her
heart for God made it difficult for those she
serves in Africa to say goodbye.
It has been a crazy, busy year filled
with nothing but great things. We are
grateful for such blessings and are looking
forward to what the future holds for us.
Love, Zak & Mallory
It’s been an exciting year for the Alt’s. Two new additions to the family: Aubrey and her significant, Robbie
Lindsey, had a little baby boy October 2, 2015. Weston is a handsome, happy little guy, and we are all in love with the
new little man in our life. They moved from Fairbanks to Juneau in November, so we’ve enjoyed having them closer.
On April 10, 2016, Alyssa married Adam Buchholz in Ft. Lauderdale, while we were still in port on board the
Carnival Conquest. Then we continued the celebration for the next six days through the Western Caribbean. They are
currently making their home in Juneau.
Glen had some shoulder surgery in December, and he continues to recover from that. Oddly enough, it doesn’t
seem to impede his golf swing, at least not too much. He’s scheduled to have the same surgery on his other shoulder this
coming October. These appendage repairs are due to all of the vigorous sports he’s played over the years. We joke that
he’s funded a few college educations for his ortho doc’s kids.
I’ve been working with an eye specialist in Seattle to get a resolution for my watery, dry eyes, and they are slowly
getting better. I also decided to go ahead and get braces to straighten my teeth – sort of funny to have braces at the age of
55, but darn it, I wanted straighter teeth! Addi calls me “braces-nana.” Addi is in first grade this year and continues to be
as active as possible with sports. She still talks about meeting and playing with all of her cousins last year – me too!
We love you and miss you all and have plans to return next year – we’ve already got the hotel reservations made!
9

10
Much love,
Becky and Glen
Jack and Cathy Porter - The Porter Picayune
Everyone is healthy, we are in the same house, same email, and we have the same phones :) Nothing
changed there! We even planted the same things in my garden: tomatoes, basil, chives, arugula, parsley,
cucumbers and zucchini. We’re so sorry we can’t be with you this year as you share those delicious peaches in
the Warming Hut, chat around the fire and enjoy salsas, salads, new family members and new babies….darn!
Yes, kids! We have a new grandson, Walker Alan, who is 4 ½ months old. He is a real sweetie and
watches everything his big sisters do. Lilly just started kindergarten in Santa Margarita today. Eleanor just
turned 3 and celebrated her birthday on July 1 st with a purple cast on her arm! It was a little difficult in the
swimming pool, but a plastic sleeve made it work. Summer is always Lucas’ busiest time, but they managed a
few short trips with the kids. Maddy is a good planner!
Kelsi also started Kindergarten this week in Templeton at the same school where Kendyl is in 2 nd grade
this year. We usually have them every Wednesday so we keep up on their swimming, friends, etc. They both
had a busy schedule this summer, so on our days we would mostly just let them read, relax or play outside.
Usually they are playing with the dog or looking for my tortoise, but Kendyl found an old empty flower pot
outside a few weeks ago with a dead mouse AND a dead lizard in it…very exciting.
You probably heard about fires happening in CA; one called the Chimney Fire is very close to us. It
started out by Lake Nacimiento (where we ski and wakeboard) and is now over 40,000 acres. It began on
August 13 th , and the firefighters now have it mostly under control…I hope. It burned some houses at the lake,
then over the hills toward the coast and came very close to Hearst Castle. There are a lot of pictures on
SLOStringer.com. Vina Robles is across the highway from the airport where the tankers fly in and out, so I see
them all day long. Ross, being a paramedic, has been kept in town, but they are low on equipment and trucks, so

he has had very little time off. We already had smoky skies from the Big Sur fire, and this has made it worse. I
wish somehow the West could get together with the states that have too much water!
This summer did get very busy with Jack involved in selling the former News property downtown and
me working again this year. The property sale just finished, but the escrow took 30 extra days (of course) with
lots of hiccups along the way. This is why I did not book flights to Michigan 3 months ago. We had to stay in
town and had no real timetable on when and if it would happen. His family had owned that property (3 retail
spaces and one apartment) since 1949, so the surveyors had a real job on their hands. The 101 Freeway had
been built since then. Jack is so happy not to be a landlord now! He was the designated ‘fixer of all things’ and
got the dreaded “plugged toilet” call two days before the new owner took over. I’m not sure how he stretched
that out, but he never did go check that out! I’m sure a phone call was made…
I am at Vina Robles Amphitheatre in the box office again this year. We have 20 concerts between Aug
3 rd and Sept. 28 th , with the Go-Go’s last night, Peter Frampton on Thursday and Jackson Browne on Friday, so
it’s a busy week! On Sunday, it starts again! The box office has a staff of six this year and was voted one of the
Top 20 Must Play Music Venues in the U.S. by Amplify Magazine. Only three venues in CA were included.
We seem to be very popular in our fourth year of operation! Technically, all but five employees are ‘let go’ on
Oct. 30 th each year and re-hired the next year. They keep calling me every February, giving me more
responsibility and telling me I’m in charge. So, since I set the schedules, I’m scheduling myself GONE next
Labor Day weekend, concert or not!
Have a wonderful weekend! We know you will!
~ Jack and Cathy
Aunt Nita – Nita’s News
Dear Wolfe Family,
Since this is my fifth attempt to send this to Ken, I will try again to get it to him through Bob. Also, I am just
going to make it very brief for the same reason. They don't go to my "sent box" either, so I guess they are out there
spinning around in the world somewhere!
I feel like I should make one more attempt to get a word to the Wolfe Family about The Family History
Book. I concentrated on that and did very little else for several weeks now and want you to know it is finished. I
hope you will have some news about it in this Wolfe Call from Aunt Ruth and Uncle Bob about it.
When I say it is finished, I mean the writing is finished. It still has to go to the publisher's and we have no
idea how long that will take. Aunt Ruth was here on the weekend, and she and I spent the greater part of two
days proof-reading the manuscript and getting it ready to go. We also worked on getting some pictures we thought
were important but didn't have. I heard yesterday that two of them were on the way so that was encouraging.
I want to thank you all for the information you helped me with when I needed something I didn't have. You
were all so encouraging and helpful. I did appreciate it.
SEE YOU ALL SOON! Love, Aunt Nita
Jared and Natalie Tryon – Jared and Natalie’s News
Greetings, family!
It's been a whirlwind of a year! When people say, "Kids grow up so fast," you don't realize it's not just a
cliché until you're really witnessing your own child grow and change every day right before your eyes! This
year tested the strength of our marriage, from a colicky baby (who gave us a run for our money at last year's
reunion) to finding a way to co-parent while Jared spent six months out of the year studying every day (every
single day!) for the CFA. We came out stronger by sticking together. Nora has changed our lives immensely,
and words can't describe the amount of joy and love she brings to our family of three. She is walking, talking
and singing! She is truly a firecracker, and her tenacious personality amazes us every day.
11

12
Jared passed Level 2 of the
CFA (only 1 more to go), was
treasurer for one of his best friend's
campaign for county board and
became a loving dad. Natalie has
been putting her passion for helping
others to use by fundraising for an
organization called CASA when she's
not working as a nurse and loves
being a mom. Overall, it's been the
best year of our lives, and we feel
very blessed and very lucky for every
day we have with each other and our
family. We’re looking forward to
catching up with everyone!
~ Jared, Natalie and Nora Tryon
Jim and Janice Kosiba – The Kosiba Chronicles
Well, last year I believe I talked about retiring at the end of the school year. It turns out that retiring from 28
years of teaching is not as easy as you would think. The essential question became, “Retire to what?” My Jimbo is
still working every day, and I haven’t figured out a plan for exactly what I would like to do once I retire, so here I
am back at my desk at 6:15 in the morning at peace with the fact that this ole’ gal still has another year or two left in
me for teaching.
Nothing much exciting has happened since I last saw you. My God, my family and my job are still the
priorities in my life. I would have to say, however, that watching my grandkids grow into wonderful humans is the
greatest blessing God has ever given me. It’s not that having my own children wasn’t a wonderful time, but from the
youngest to the oldest, they prove to amaze and delight me in every way possible, (not always the case when you are
in the throes of parenting.) I’ll bet many of you with this blessing in your life would agree.
From a low key Christmas season, watching mom recover from a slight stroke, weekends at the lake and a
wonderful get-together at the beginning of the summer to celebrate John Branca’s 40 th birthday, I am reflective of
the fact that I am surrounded with a special kind of love and support through my family, my extended family and
wonderful friends. I am thankful for each of you.
Finally, after twenty something years of being on heavy-duty heart medications, I had my heart fixed. On
August 3 rd my heart doctor fixed the problem, hopefully for good! Yippee! I am looking forward to feeling better
and stronger in the weeks to come. I am still experiencing some random palpitations and tiredness, but I am off all
arrhythmia medications altogether.
I’m looking forward to Labor Day weekend and the chance to reconnect and fill my spirit with the love from
the family. I will miss all those that can’t be there this year, (especially Susan and her family, plus Lauribelle). I am
already looking forward to the 50 th . That should be one HOWLING Wolfe reunion. ☺
Love and hugs to all,
Janice

Katie Kosiba – The Katie Kosiba Citizen
Hello family!
Another great year has gone by with few changes. I am still in Chicago and loving it. Unfortunately, the
company I was working for was bought out, and I decided to go my own way. I absolutely love the hospitality
field, so I started my own little company. It's nothing big, but I'm doing what I love and also working for a few
other hospitality companies. It keeps me pretty busy. Unfortunately, I have not been able to make it up to the
cottage this year, but I’m looking forward to this next year. I love the time I get with my family. I was able to
go to Kris's annual Fourth of July party and had a great time. It's been great going home to mom and dad's for a
great meal and spending time with my nieces and nephews! I look forward to what the next year has in store for
me. I love you all and can't wait to see you soon!
Kris and Ava Kosiba – The K & A Constitution
It is hard to believe another year has gone by. Things at the Kosiba house continue to move like a
freight train - fast and furious! The kids have more than three weeks of school under their belt and are
really enjoying their new teachers. Maddie is in 4 th grade, Viv in 2 nd , and Eli has moved on to high school.
Last year I was a full-time sub in 6 th grade science and really enjoyed it. I have returned to the middle
school as a full-time teacher, this year as a 6 th grade special education teacher. It is taking some time to
adjust to the position, but I am really happy about the change.
Sports continue to be a huge part of our weekly schedule. Maddie and Viv both played basketball
this year and have recently started their soccer season. Eli played sports during every season this past year
and had a really successful basketball and track season. He was really excited to make the varsity soccer
team this year as a freshman and has gotten a ton of playing time. He has made some amazing friends on
the team and spends a lot of his time with them.
The kids and I were able to do some traveling this past summer, which we really enjoyed. It is really
hard that when we have the summer off, Kris is in the busiest part of his season. This prevented him from
being able to travel with us. We are really going to have to start taking some winter trips! At the end of last
school year, Eli and I traveled to Washington D.C. with his 8 th grade class. We were there an entire week
and had an amazing time! Who would have thought I could enjoy a trip so much with 60 kids? But I really
did! We also made a couple trips to Turkey Run to hike and canoe, and we made up to Michigan to spend a
few days at Chippewa Lake. The highlight of our summer, though, was our trip to Colorado. The girls got
to experience flying for the first time, and they loved it. We spent our week with my friend in Ft. Collins
but traveled around and enjoyed every place we visited. It is just so beautiful there. We can’t wait to go
back. We also spent a lot of time on our own lake. We had a really successful summer of fishing, hanging
out on the pontoon boat, and sitting on the beach.

14
Kris continues to stay busy at down at
the sand pit. Sometimes it seems like
he lives there in the summer! ☺ In
April, we enjoyed a trip to Chicago
where his audio business, Lakeview
Audio, received amazing press
reviews at the show he attends each
year. Music still continues to be his
passion, and we spend a ton of time
listening to records. It is something
we love doing as a family, and the
kids are becoming lovers of all types
of music.
Overall, we have had an
amazing year of healthy kids, a
bountiful garden, a successful school
year, and a lot of time as a family on
the lake. We are looking forward to
another year of great adventures.
Love,
Kris, Ava, Eli, Maddie, and Viv
Lindsay Tryon – The Tryon Tribune
This year has been a quick and eventful one! After last year’s
reunion, I moved back to Chicago with my friend Laura so I would be
closer to school. Getting back into the groove of things after coming
back from studying abroad was difficult, but I muddled through. I
joined a volunteer club called “Engineering World Health” at school
where I had the opportunity to spend the year working with other
engineering students to build a laminar flow hood. Our design is
getting FDA-certified this summer and will be sent to Vietnam to be
used in the NICU unit, where it will help to improve sanitation and
lower the risk of infection.
After a busy school year, I was able to take a trip to Japan
with my roommate Laura. She had entered in a drawing at a Japanese
restaurant for a chance to win a trip for two to Tokyo and Kyoto, and
she won! She asked me to be her “plus one,” and we had a great time
exploring both cities!
I’ve spent the end of my summer doing an internship at the
university’s hospital. I’ve also been able to spend a few weeks
shadowing the Urology department and the Neurology department
looking for clinical problems that could be fixed with engineering. It
has been super exciting, and I’ve had the chance to sit in on some
incredible surgeries.
I’m looking forward to starting my final year of school and
can’t wait to FINALLY graduate!
~ Lindsey

Mike & Cathy Tryon – The Tryon Tidbits
Once again, it seems almost imposable that a year has passed since the reunion. It is entirely possible that
the older you get, the faster time flies, or at least it seems that way. The Tryon Wolfe Den has been very busy
this year with family, work, personal pursuits and politics. In September shortly after the reunion, we brought
Mom to Crystal Lake for two weeks so she could work on her writing of the family history. We enjoyed having
her here so much that we have had her back every month since for at least two weeks a month, and the family
history is nearing completion. In January the office manager at our business decided to retire after 18 years of
service and gave us only a six-week notice. After hiring someone that didn't work out, it became obvious that
Cathy was the only person for the job. She has done a remarkable job at handling the workload and engaging
her new responsibilities. Our two new clerical staff that she supervises are finally getting trained, and hopefully
we can take a vacation to Colorado in October to visit Lauren.
Family time has become by far my favorite pastime, and since the arrival of Nora Jean Tryon, I can’t seem
to get enough of having family around. Every week she changes and now is walking and talking gibberish a
mile a minute. It is awesome to watch your children grow up, but it is really awesome to watch them become
parents. It’s especially nice that Jared and Natalie are only a couple of miles away. Vacationing with Lindsay
and Lauren has also been something we have enjoyed with Lindsay and her friends at Lake of the Ozarks and
spending time with Lauren when she comes home for the holidays.
In June of 2015, I announced that I would not be seeking another term in the House of Representatives
and planned to retire from politics at the end of my term. I can’t believe my timing with the gridlock in politics
and the strangest presidential election I have ever seen in my life. I thank the good Lord every day for the
strength to have made that decision. Now Cathy will have to get used to having me around more often as we
transition back to private life. I know I will miss working on public policy and the friends that we have made,
but it was the absolute right decision for me and my family. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the
reunion.
~ Mike & Cathy
Bob and Ginnie Wolfe – The Eastern Wolfe Den
Often these reports start with “this year is not much change from last year.” Let’s remember most of us lived
a blessed life and should thank our Creator when we have enjoyed another year of blessings.
For our Wolfe “den” here in CT, this year has been quite different from past ones. However, we are still
thanking God for the blessings of each other, a loving family and a caring extended family, many of which are
visiting together this Labor Day, 2016. We remain thankful for each day, even though some days are better than
others.
Bob: For the past few months, I have been having some difficulty with bodily functions. As I became 90
years of age in late December, the new year started with increased doctor visits. A series of inspections of various
kinds which identified an enlarged mass of lymph nodes (4” dia.) resulting in a catheter and some changes and
additions on medications. The mass is believed to be metastasized from my prostate cancer of eight years which has
been controlled with diet and hormone shots.
My primary doctor recommended focused radiation, hospice or both. Not ready for the latter, I doubled down
on what I knew to do – prayer life, vegan diet and walking for my exercise. None of these are perfect as I’d like them
to be. We also made a trip to Flemington, NJ, to Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s office. While he has withdrawn to research and
write another book, he has mentored a Doctor (Jay Benson) to fulfill this practice. He tuned up our diet a bit.
I have also added the medication Xtandi, and I am part way through a 25-day radiation series. I thank God
for each day, enjoy each day and always have a goal looking ahead. Your prayers are welcome. I guess that’s
enough (perhaps too much) and on to a few highlights!
Some highlights: I’m sure I have ruined my growing fame as a poet. When ask to write about February for
publication in our monthly newsletter – no limits given – I included St. Val, Washington, Lincoln, weather, etc., it

grew too long to fit in the monthly brochure. It was published separately and made available, but the editors could
not have been very happy.
Soon it was time to start the garden, which has always been a big highlight for me. I was able to participate,
plan and help in the planting of 5 – 4’ x 10’ plots – then I faded. With Ginnie leading a group of Linda and local
helpers, we are again enjoying many veggies, peas, beans, beets, turnips, squash, kale, chard and finally, tomatoes. I
have contented myself with pruning and nurturing my one grape vine – table grapes, seedless, dry root in 2014, now
30 to 40 large loose bunches.
Then in June, Karen visited for a few days, a nice addition to our weekly Skype with her. Adding Linda’s
faithful weekly visits, occasionally with other family members and Ken’s regular and faithful visit when possible,
life has been great!
Then, life got better! In early July, Ruth arranged for a charter plane to bring her, Nita and Jenny for a
couple of days – really a celebration of the “near finish” of Ora and Ann’s Story. It was well worth celebrating, for
Nita has done an outstanding job as author and editor. This visit was indeed a HIGHLIGHT, for I have come to
realize that I will not be able to attend the famous Wolfe Family Reunion – that hurts after the interest I have had in
this event since its start in 1967.
Soon after their visit, another event occurred – our 67 th wedding anniversary. In our 90 th year, our own
celebrations are really low key. But Saturday, Linda and Del drove us down near the shore. It was a beautiful drive.
We found a Bistro serving Mediterranean-style tapas in Westbrook…delicious! Ken was here on Sunday giving us
opportunity to share with him. July was a great month!
If anyone would want to make me VERY happy, send a story of interaction from your memory between us.
It can be just a short page or two. It doesn’t need to be good; I’m sure there were some bad interactions with 3rd or
4 th generation that would now require a laugh or an apology. I would consider such a memoir a real treasure.
Ginnie: We indeed are so happy to be in Covenant Village of Cromwell. When we have a problem, there is
always someone here to help us. For example, this past week we had a hive of bees living in the area surrounding the
dryer vent which exhausts on the porch, and someone came Wednesday to take care of it.
Our doctor specialists reside about 15 minutes away, which is so great when you need to see them often. As
far as activities are concerned, there are many interesting concerts, art classes and physical activities. I thoroughly
enjoy Tai Chi.
We have 15 meals a month in the dining room, which is great. We can choose noon or evening, or we can
even order pick up with a little extra charge and bring the meal to our apartment. Simple rides, going out to eat,
visiting with family and friends, and good old films keep us happy. It has been difficult for Bob to go to Chapel
which is right here on campus, but I do attend service there. Our chaplains give us food for thought.
I am so thankful to be reaching my 90 th birthday this year and all the children will help me celebrate on the
7 th of Aug. Even Karen is going to be here, for which we are thankful. I will miss seeing you all this year at the
reunion. The email serves as a great way to keep in touch, so send us a line once in a while.
~ Uncle Bob and Ginnie
Del and Linda Shannon – The Shannon Sun
We have been blessed with another good and full year! A few weeks after the reunion, we left for the
annual Peacemakers Conference in Colorado this year, and the Aspens were beautiful!
In October, we enjoyed an amazing three-week journey down the Rhine and Danube Rivers from
Amsterdam to Budapest. It was an experience in the land, its people and culture, delicious cuisine, and its
history. We saw Holland's windmills, Germany’s castles and charming cobblestone towns, and the Vineyardclad
hillsides of Austria, from the boat and by foot! It was spectacular!!
As always, we enjoyed the Shannon Family Reunion at Thanksgiving time in WV at Bluestone State
Park. Del's three brothers and Dad and Doris have all migrated from Pittsburgh, PA, to Georgia. It's nice to meet
halfway between CT and GA once a year!
Again we had our Christmas Tea for over 100 ladies on the first Sunday in December. For me, it's my
beginning of the Christmas Season. Del and I host a Christmas meal for the Bob Wolfe family; it's always so

much fun to all be together!
Between March and April, I spent one week at Kelly's house in WV packing and helping prepare their
house to go on the market. Kelly and the kids spent three weeks with us while Matt was already at his new job
in PA. After Erin's daughter Sara was born, Erin went back to Talbot’s part-time, so I now have R.J. and Sara
just a couple days a week. So, for three weeks, we had a very busy home with six children under the age of
five!
Genevieve Wolfe – The Genevieve Gazette
17
It's so great to be only 40 minutes
from Mom and Dad! I am able to see them
once a week. Karen has been able to get
back to visit Mom and Dad more this year,
and it's been so good to see her more
often!
Del and I continue to stay very
involved in our church. For the past five
years, we have met at a private school on
Sunday mornings and Wednesday
evenings. Our church has been offered a
100-year-old church with a beautiful
traditional place of worship, a gym, a large
kitchen, three full floors of meeting and
Sunday School rooms, all with too few
bathrooms :-( Our timing for the move is
October or November. It's not all sorted
out yet, but it's going to happen and it's
very exciting!! We look forward to seeing
everyone very soon!
~ Del and Linda
Hello, family!
This year I ventured off to Europe to see part of
the world. I spent three months studying abroad in Italy
in a small town called Ascoli Piceno. I went on field trips
during the week and visited farms, dairies, bakeries,
coffee production offices, and many vineyards and
wineries. As a class, we went to Milan to visit the
World’s Fair EXPO 2015 and explore the different
countries’ pavilions. On the weekends, I would board the
four-hour bus to Rome to then hop on a flight to a new
country. I visited Zermatt, Switzerland, and went paragliding
next to the Matterhorn, which was an AMAZING
experience. I took a five-hour beer-and-chocolate tour in
Brussels, Belgium. I also was able to visit Munich,
Germany; Vienna, Austria; and Amsterdam, Netherlands.
After my program ended, Rebecca flew over and
met me in Ireland for a week to adventure together before
heading home for the holidays. This summer I worked at
a farm-to-market restaurant in Ogunquit, Maine, and I am
starting my junior year at the University of New
Hampshire.
Justin and Becca Parker – The Parker Pioneer
Justin and I are finishing up our last wedding details at this point. The wedding will only be a month away by
the time the reunion rolls around! We have both continued our positions with the state of Maine and Lonza
Biologics, respectively. This past year, I ran the Old Port Half-Marathon; this was my first race! We are looking
forward to a slower year after the wedding has finished, and we can start our next journey.
See you all soon!
Aloha Family:
September 2015 brought me back to the states and the family in Hawaii. As a healthcare administrator, I
am able to support veterans, and I continue to enjoy the areas of process improvement. Although I miss Korea
and the excitement and travel, I've enjoyed being closer to Mom and Dad and being able to see them more
frequently. Bonus: the rest of the family is close by in Connecticut, too!
Shortly after returning to Hawaii, Larry and I split up. While this has been a difficult decision, I remain
convinced that it is the best decision to safeguard my health and well-being.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible and spread da Aloha – Kare
Ken and Barb Wolfe – The Ken & Barb Beacon
We have had an exciting year! Last October, Barb and I were able to travel for two weeks in Italy to visit
Genevieve and explore Rome, Venice, Florence and have a few days in Tuscany to see the sights. It was a wonderful
experience!
It has also been wonderful to
have Mom and Dad so close we get
together as often as we can. In
preparation for Rebecca and Justin's
wedding, we have been spending
many weekends handling the details
and enjoying the company of our
adult children, one of the joys of this
stage of life.
For some silly reason, with
the impending wedding, we decided
that now would be a good time to
tackle many of the upgrades to our
home that we wanted to do. Much of
the work I am doing on my own, for
which I am barely suited so the
weekends have been very busy. We
are looking ahead to the wedding,
and I to the end of projects. We look
forward to seeing everyone at
Pokagon very soon!
Matt, Kelly, Rose, Caleb, Levi and Reesa Armes – The Call to Armes
Hello again! The constant state of moving - literally and figuratively - over the past eight months finally caught up
to us and allowed us to reflect, so let’s get to some of the highlights from the past year…
Matt began his fifth year as a high school counselor in West Virginia, but he didn’t end the year there. After a
long application process and several interviews, he accepted a position with the University of Penn in Philadelphia as an
Academic Counselor in a program called PENNCAP – Penn College Achievement Program – and he started this past
February. It’s a special program that provides academic counseling and support for students who have been accepted to
Penn by their own merit, but they’re coming from various disadvantaged backgrounds. He counsels them throughout their
four years at Penn to ensure they succeed in reaching their academic and professional goals while supporting their social,
emotional and mental well-being. It was a very bittersweet transition for Matt. He absolutely loved the seniors in his
caseload last year, and he kept a promise he made four years ago to those students by traveling from Philly to Martinsburg
and shaking their hands as they received their diplomas on graduation night.
Kelly held down the fort in WV without one complaint while the house was on the market for three months and
finally sold in late April, which is when we moved into our new home about six miles outside of Philadelphia. In addition
to turning our new house into a wonderful home and watching our four rugrats children, she has taken up selling
Lemongrass part-time to women within our local community interested in all-natural health and cosmetic items. It’s been
a very successful (ad)venture so far, and we’ve been blessed because of her efforts. Ask her about it!
19
Somehow, all of our children are suddenly growing up at the speed of light. Here's the supporting evidence:
Rose is now 6 years old, and she's one week away from starting the first grade. When she's not shepherding her
younger siblings, she is busy drawing on every piece of printer paper available within a three-mile radius.
Caleb is now 4 years old, and he's three weeks away from entering preschool. He's been busy impersonating
every known superhero, usually complete with a cape, a mask, and amazing speed that he showcases while running
through the kitchen. Along with Levi, who will be 3 in September, they spend their days as only brothers one year
apart can: the closest of friends and the worst of enemies. Still, we can't help but smile when we see one of them turn
to the other and proudly declare, "You're my best friend."
Reesa, who will be 2 in November, has caught on quickly to their antics and has developed several quirks of
her own. For example, she has grown very fond of water. It's not uncommon for Reesa to find someone's drinking
glass and happily pour it out onto the floor just because she will have a new puddle at her disposal. And, while Kelly
was out grocery shopping one night, Matt was given the daunting task of getting everyone ready for bed. Although
he asked Rose to watch Reesa very carefully, our squirrelly little girl made her way to the bathroom, which is where

Matt found her - standing with both feet firmly planted in the toilet. It made him wonder whether she was actually a
mermaid in her former life.
On the topic of craziness, we were recently hit with how much has happened unexpectedly over the past
eight months. We never expected God to lead our family from West Virginia to Philadelphia, not to mention how it
occurred in the middle of the school year. For a family whose life is ordered into semesters and summer breaks, this
threw all of us off our game for a while! Matt never expected to wind up at an Ivy League university counseling
college students who come from all over the country (and the world) from worse backgrounds than either of us ever
had. We never expected that we would find a wonderful church only four minutes from our new house. We never
expected how badly we sometimes need to have a good cry when life just overwhelms us, or how great it felt to be
near each other when we finished. We’d also forgotten that God knew about our expectations and chose to work
beyond them in His own amazing ways, catching us off guard and reminding us that He is there all along.
Russ and Erin Tolles – The Tolles Telegraph
The Tolles have had a good year! I'm (Erin) still at Talbots, 16 years there and love it. I'm a parttime
key holder so I can spend more time with my kids, which keep me very busy these days! RJ
turned 3 this July and is such a fun, energetic and loving little boy! He starts preschool in September
and is so excited for school! Our new addition to the family this year is Sara Jane!
She was born March 28 th and is such
a blessing! She's easy going, she smiles all
the time and loves her older brother! Russ
works at Priceline as a Market
Development Manager, a job which he
loves. He travels every month but enjoys it!
Russ and I took our first trip as a family of
four to Hersey, PA, and had such a fun
time! We’re looking forward to seeing all
of you!
Love,
Russ, Erin, RJ and Sara
20
Jenny Johnson – Jenny’s Journal
It's been a wonderful year full of much of the same as past years, and for that I continue to be grateful:
Lots of travel with family and friends, a beautiful and bountiful gardening season, plenty of work and volunteer
responsibilities to keep me active in my community, and a church family I love. Life is good, and it moves by
quickly. I'm reminded often of God’s grace and the abundant blessings in my life. I feel thankful to have been
born into this family and am amazed at the impact it has had and continues to have on me. We are so fortunate
to have each other and our rich history together.
Thanks to each of you for the efforts and sacrifices you make to stay engaged and connected to the
mighty Wolfe Pack! A few of my favorite things include my awesome dog Josie, the sight of fresh garden
produce spread across my kitchen counter, the sounds of frogs and cicadas in the evening, the fresh clear air of a
cool morning, the warmth, smell and sound of a wood fire, butterflies and dragonflies, wild flowers, the joy and
excitement of young children, bird songs, collecting cool rocks on a shoreline or in a creek, and spending time
with family and friends. Love you all!

21
Rick, Alice, Annie and Ricky Johnson – The Johnson Juggernaut
We have had another great year in the Johnson household! For Rick, the berry garden is doing a great
job of feeding the birds with some outstanding food! The tomatoes and cucumbers are doing great. Ricky and I
are growing a giant mullein weed alongside some super-hot peppers that you should ask Ricky about, and Annie
and I have a fleet of different cherry tomatoes that we love. The duck hunting was fun this past season, and the
large kill brought the average cost to about $350 a duck…well worth it! We continue to enjoy the outdoors at
our home with extensive wildflowers and all the insects that it attracts. On the business side, Lenny’s Grill and
Subs continues to improve with the support of a great team. And on the Popcorn side, two new brands of Ready
to Eat popcorn, Null Hull Practically Hulless Popcorn and Family Farm Grown (Each differentiated as the name
would suggest), should help the business grow significantly. Alice and I continue to collect a couple pieces of
art each year and enjoy the search. Trips to NYC, Wyoming, Florida and Santa Barbara have been great breaks
to our busy routine.
Family continues to keep Alice busy in so many ways, all of which are blessings. She serves on the
board of the Heritage Fund, Columbus’ Community Foundation and also on its grants committee where helping
non-profits achieve their goals through grants and advancing community initiatives is very rewarding.
Gardening remains one of her most gratifying hobbies and always fills some of each day. Ricky will be a senior
this year; it’s hard for us to believe! He continues to play soccer and will play varsity this year for his high
school team. IU appears to be in Ricky’s college plans…yay! Annie has two years left at IU to complete her
two majors in business at the Kelley School and in fashion design. She is working this summer at Coach and it
is a win-win for them as she has made several purchases with her paycheck! We look forward to seeing
everyone at the reunion!
Ruth Johnson – Ruth’s Review
Hello Dear Family,
I just returned on Sunday evening from a wonderful visit with Nita. Jenny had a wedding in Wisconsin
which she wanted to attend and told me that she would be going within a few blocks of Nita’s condo and asked
if I would like to go…not a big decision there! So we left a day earlier so that she could have a visit, too. She
went to the wedding the next morning, and Nita and I were left alone and without transportation, which we
hardly missed, to enjoy one another and talk and eat, Wolfe-like.
Jenny had brought much fresh garden produce, and we had some wonderful corn on the cob before
leaving Columbus. And, Nita’s peach tree, which she planted at 89 years young, was filled with beautiful ripe
peaches. Two pretty good cooks and such bounty was a setting to be desired. We had a glorious time and even
did a little work. How could we not have fun? It’s an 83-year relationship!!
Nita has finished the manuscript of our “story,” and we spent some valuable time proofreading it
“again”! We want to save as much publisher money as possible. It is a wonderful story…Of course it is; it’s
about “us!” It makes you laugh and cry and just enjoy. I am very impressed with her writing and the way it all
flows. Of course, we all had input into it, for there were details that you had to supply since you have been a
part of this story for your whole life. You’re going to love it.
One of the other highlights of my year was taking a trip out to see Bob and Ginnie in CT. Jenny came
with “the old ones,” and so Nita came, too. It was a most wonderful visit with a terrific garden lunch in their
condo prepared by Ginnie, and Linda came to see us and help a bit with lunch. Bob was able to show us his
gardens, and that was a special treat. He had vegetables to harvest and some still coming on, and Ginnie always
manages to tuck a few flowers and herbs in to add beauty and color. That’s what she has been doing now for,
can it be, 66 years? These events were probably the highlights of my year. What great blessings it is to have two
siblings with whom I have shared my entire life.

On January 1 st this year, I decided I should make some New Year’s resolutions. I was thinking, of
course, of Dick and how he sat down every New Year’s Day and made a list of his resolutions for the new
year. I was having a hard time with “a list,” and then I had an inspiration: this would be my year of gratitude, so
I vowed that each day I would think of one thing for which I am grateful. At first, I wondered if I would run out
of “things.” Not a chance! In fact, I have found myself thinking of things throughout the day and sending God a
special “thank you” many times each day. I have found this to be an excellent habit and have been a very happy
person the entire year. Even when problems arise, there are things for which to be grateful. I recommend trying
this resolution.
Family, of course, is high on my “grateful” list, and each of you have been thought about and had a
prayer raised on your behalf. This might be a special year to choose this again, as it will be our 50 th Family
Reunion Year. What a joy it will be to celebrate when we gather next year, and we must think hard about how
we want to go about this time together. Be thinking about suggestions you have and do make your own plans to
be here. We can talk about it this year when I see you!
Love,
Aunt Ruth
