Tips… 

• Group students; one with a mobile 

phone in each group 

• Provide a mix of questions - some 

of which for revision, some of which 

research. 

• Keep a record of where you place 

each code – to remove after the 

exercise has finished.

How to use in education? 

1. A jigsaw listening in class 

• No language lab but their mobile 

phones and headsets 

2. A webquest or a treasure hunt 

activity /internet research 

3. Listening HW 

• Recording is too big for an email 

4. Create posters about a topic 

Generate QR code for their 

content . E.g. Create a 

Padlet wall and add QR 

codes for your students to do a 

research activity OR students 

can add QR codes about any 

topic. 

5. Record your lesson /create a QR 

code and share it with others 

E.g. Create an audio recording or 

ask the students to create one 

using Vocaroo and then click 

QR code on the bottom. 

6. Get feedback or do mini surveys 

using PollsToGo, which lets you

seconds after delivery from the cache and is not 

permanently stored

Step 1: Upload your doc by 

clicking on the Up Button next to 

Create on the left hand side 

Step 2: Once your doc is 

uploaded double or right click on 

it opening up the doc on Google 

Drive 


• Step 3: Click on the Share symbol at the top right. 

• Step 4: Change the privacy settings to “Anyone 

With The Link” or “Public on the Web” and click 

Save. With the “Anyone With The Link” setting, 

anyone who scans your QR Code will be 

able to go to the doc.

Step 5: Use the URL where it says “Link to Share” 

and use that link to create your QR Code.

To add a location 

e.g. for business cards 

• Go to https://maps.google.com/ 

• Enter the destination. Make sure the map is 

displayed as you would like it to appear when 

somebody scans the QR code. 

• Click on the chain button. 

• Copy the short URLof your destination. 

• Go to the QR code generator and enter your 

URL. Click on Generate Dynamic.

To add a picture 

• A picture has too much data for a QR code. So… 

1. Upload the picture to a cloud service e.g 

flickr.com, dropbox.com, facebook.com or Google 

Drive 

2. Get the URL link of that picture. 

flickr.com:click on the share-icon on the far right 

hand side of the uploaded picture. 

dropbox: scroll down to the picture & find thelink 

icon on the far right hand side. 

facebook: hover over the picture. Choose to save 

the link from the drop-down menu 

• Use the links to create a QR code

Dynamic or Static QR Codes? 

Static codes: CANNOT be changed 

Good for a fixed address, an SMS, a v-card or an 

email on smartphones, or a phone number. 

• HOW TO ? 

• Go to http://qrcode.kaywa.com 

• Input your address or content information 

and move the slider button over to “Static”: 

• Click on the “Generate Static” button, and there 

is your QR Code!

TO DOWNLOAD a QR code? 

• Hover your mouse over the code that you just 

generated, 

• right-click, and choose “Save image as…” to 

save it to your computer. If you can’t find it later, 

just create a new one!

TIPS 

• Do not put a lot of data 

complicated QR code= difficulty in decoding 

• With URLs- shorten them= simple QR codes 

• https://bitly.com/
