without thinking of Tom Cruise in Top Gun, or the classic Wayfarer, the first acetate
the 1986 Clubmaster.
Award in 2006, the Country Living Entrepreneur Award in 2007 and the Lifetime Achievement
Award from AmericasMart/Icon Honors in 2014.
In 1994, the loss of dear friend Mary Sloan to breast cancer, who was one of the company’s original
sales representatives, inspired Ms. Baekgaard and Ms. Miller to add a new dimension to Vera Bradley
by establishing the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. The Foundation is among one of
the many causes that Vera Bradley supports. To date, the Foundation has raised over $25 million for
breast cancer research at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center.
When she has time to take a break from her busy schedule, Ms. Baekgaard enjoys traveling and
spending time with her four children and twelve grandchildren.
