COASTAL CURRENTS does ROOT 1066
Welcome to Coastal Currents does ROOT 1066, in this,
a special anniversary year for the entire 1066 region.
This year, Coastal Currents Arts Festival supports
ROOT 1066 Festival of Contemporary Arts as we
celebrate the 950th anniversary of the Battle of
Hastings and William the Conqueror’s invasion
of England with a one-off festival promising
innovative and fresh perspectives on the history
and legacy of 1066.
Coastal Currents will continue to do what it
does best and provide you with one of the finest
celebrations of art and culture in the South East.
Showcasing a packed programme of events and
exhibitions featuring Artist Collectives, Taster
Shows, performances and live outdoor pieces
including Jimmy Cauty (Dismaland) on the Stade
as part of Stade Saturdays.
Hastings Borough Council
is proud to support Coastal
Currents for its 17th year
running and especially so in
this anniversary year.
With ROOT 1066’s curated
programme of spectacular
outdoor events, fantastic
performances, exhibitions and
exciting participatory projects
this looks to be an immense year
for art and culture.
So what better reason to stretch
the boundaries of Coastal
Currents beyond Hastings and St
Leonards to include as much of
1066 country as possible and set
the area alight with reasons to
visit, stay and enjoy everything
this bumper year has to offer.
Not forgetting the life blood of Coastal Currents,
the much loved Open Studios trails taking place on
the 3/4 and 10/11 September this year throughout
Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill, Fairlight, Pett, Rye
and even as far as Udimore. With a great deal of new
studios to explore and so many choices in each area,
it makes sense to save the dates in your diary now.
Thanks to everyone for taking
such an active part in this
celebration of Hastings & St
Leonards’ creativity and to Sweet
Working in all weathers has always been crucial to
my understanding and refining of the experience
of being an artist. Last year a diagnosis of cancer
prevented me from working outside. I decided to
draw on my emotional response to my internal
landscape. Fortunately I am once again able to
look out to the broader horizon.
