Welcome from
Kevin Holden
Since being appointed at the club only six weeks ago it
has been a very busy time trying to look at the current
squad of players and also trying to work out areas of
the team that may need improving. As of yet we have
had very little, if any, time working on tactical play
and shape due to a number of issues, especially the
obvious lack of fitness to several players partly due to
the close season and also being hampered by holidays
by players and coaches alike.
We have concentrated on training hard on fitness
levels and only looking at players in warm-up matches.
It has been fair to say myself and Chris have been
really pleased by the warm welcome we have received
from the club committee and the existing players with
a fresh approach.
The good news is that
there is certainly talent
amongst the existing
squad but they need a
boost and need to see
some new faces around
the squad to improve
confidence and add a bit
of extra quality in certain
areas.
We have been working
very hard behind the
scenes and to date we
have added Peter Taylor,
Keegan Miller and Dan
Holden. Although young,
they have come from a
good upbringing with
district and county level
experience. Then we have
made two very experienced
signings of Russ Stevens
and James Eyres. Both
have played Combined
Counties Premier football
and scored several goals at
that level.
A further new signing is
Jack Howard, previously
with Fleet Town, who has
added some energy to the

midfield and looked very impressive in pre-season so
far.
It is going to take time and we have to be patient in
our search for new players as we wait to see if players
become available from teams at a higher level if they
fail to get time on the pitch. At the time of writing we
have been talking to four potential players we have
targeted that will certainly improve the squad further,
but it really is a waiting game to see if things develop
on that front.
Preseason hasn’t been good in terms of results but
we certainly could have been 2 or 3 goals ahead
before conceding in 2 of the games, so we have to
take positives from that.
We also need to make
ourselves harder to score
against to keep ourselves
in games for longer,
something we are working
hard on.

Fresh start, bold future
Firstly a very warm welcome today to AFC Cubo and
today’s match official Ryan Chitson. Let’s hope it is a
tough but enjoyable game for all.
We needed a fresh start this season after the
disappointments of last year. Fresh faces and a fresh
approach were what we were looking for when we
searched for a new 1st Team manager and I think
that is exactly what we are getting now. We are very
pleased to have both Kevin and Chris taking charge of
the 1st team and there is already a more positive buzz
around the club. The players seem to have enjoyed pre
season and the new faces
have fitted in well. It’s not
going to happen overnight
and there is still a massive
amount of hard work
required from everyone if
we are going to prove we
are good enough to play
in this tough Surrey Elite
League. I have no doubt in
my mind that we have the
management and players
to do this and wish them
all the best of luck for the
forthcoming season.

Our off the pitch activities
have been very busy
throughout the summer
as well. Our pre-planning
application for floodlights
and a clubhouse were
submitted, and a very
positive response from
the planning department
means we are now able
to take the next steps
with this. We have a
very focused Executive
Committee who are
working hard to provide
these new facilities as
quickly as possible. I
will keep you updated
throughout the season
with any progress we
make.

Crocked by the crossbar
Yateley United’s first football-related casualty
occurred last weekend when, whilst helping to
erect the goals for a 1st team friendly at Sean
Devereux Park, the Adult Section’s Treasurer,
Stuart Ive, dropped the crossbar of one of the
goals onto his left foot inflicting a hairline
fracture.
Fortunately his toes were unhurt so he is still able
to count to twenty.

Welcome to
our visitors
AFC Cubo
Founded in 1999, they
are based in London and
have their second team in
the Wimbledon District
League, playing their
home matches in the Barn
Elms Sports Centre in
Barnes.
They were formed by
a group of Newcastle
University old boys who
had moved to London to
work.
The name of the club
came from a player’s
employer. The Cubo
company offered to
sponsor them, although it
took them a decade before
the money started to flow
to the club.
The club colours came
from a player’s girlfriend’s
textile businessman father
who was a Manchester
City fan!
