CELEBRATE
The Stories Within
For 25 years, Youth Entrepreneurs ® has inspired thousands
of high school students to begin writing the first chapter
of their own entrepreneurial tales. Through an experience
different from anything else in high school, YE helps students
learn the business knowledge, skills and important human
values that will guide them to fulfilling lives.
We invite you to come along with us to remember student
and alumni successes of the past, discover those of the present
and look forward to the transformational stories to come.
From Dreams
TO REALITY
KASI ROSS
These featured alumni have taken pen to paper and become the authors of their own futures.
Read their stories and look forward to hearing from them during tonight’s event!
WICHITA HIGH SCHOOL EAST YE ALUMNUS, 2015
Whether it’s hitting the books, working an
eight-hour shift at QuikTrip or upping his
shoe game with a custom pair of kicks, Kasi
Ross gives 100 percent. He credits his mother
with this hard work ethic and determination.
“I do what I do to make my family proud,”
Kasi says.
In high school, Kasi realized that it would be
wise to provide backup for his pro-basketball
dreams. He enrolled in YE, and the class
unveiled his passion for numbers. “With
Market Day, I was learning and earning
money, and having fun while doing it,”
Kasi says. YE opened doors for Kasi, in big
ways and small, as he learned how to dress
professionally and feel confident in a room
filled with business people.
“This program opens your eyes by giving you
experience in so many different areas,” Kasi
says. “It made me more comfortable socially
in a business setting because the networking
forced me to make conversation.” Take YE’s
values and tools, then layer in a natural
tenacity, thirst for knowledge and a whole lot
of heart, and you’ve got Kasi’s custom design
for success.
• YE Academy points helped fund his business
• Named one of the prestigious Gates
Millennium Scholars
• A Real Men, Real Heroes mentor and a
member of the City of Wichita Mayor’s
Youth Council
• Studying accounting at KU and hopes to
work at Koch after college
DANIEL SERRES
VAN HORN HIGH SCHOOL, INDEPENDENCE, MO, YE ALUMNUS 2014
Socks and empanadas: If you can’t find the
connection, you probably haven’t met Daniel
Serres. The YE alumnus turned his business plan
idea into a real venture, selling his custom sock
business, DA Socks, to the Kansas City Venezuelan
restaurant he works at, Empanada Madness.
Daniel’s mother brought him to the U.S. when he
was just three years old. “My mom came here to
escape the crumbling economy in Venezuela.
She wanted to provide a better life for me, and
she encourages me to think about the future,”
Daniel says. Introduced to YE as a sophomore,
Daniel took advantage of everything the class had
to offer. “YE is not just another business class,”
Daniel says. “It challenges us to look further to find
those opportunities. It takes a student further than
a textbook and helps us bring our ideas to life.”
Daniel’s sock business is booming. Salvador Perez,
Omar Infante and Alcides Escobar – players
for the Kansas City Royals ® and regulars at
Empanada Madness – recently posted pictures with
his “Forever Royal” socks on social media. “YE
provided networks to help me build my business,
and I’m excited to expand my online business and
to create custom socks for Sporting KC and the
Kansas City Chiefs ® ,” Daniel says.
