202 BASIC FREESTYLE MOVES Raley to Blind RALEY TO BLIND BASIC FREESTYLE MOVES ALBERTO RONDINA Text Alberto Rondina | Photo Laci Kobulsky Here we are, this is the first blind surface pass and also the coolest one you can start with! It is the base of a lot of other tricks, so once you have this one figured out, a whole world of possibilities opens up in front of you! Its all about edging hard, going for a solid raley and do a backside 180 landing blind, lets go more into details: •With good speed, and the kite at 45 degrees, keep the hands right in the middle of the bar and unhook. •Start to edge and move the nose of the board against the wind, sending the front leg up high in the direction of the wind and pushing hard with your back leg off the water. •Stretch your legs up behind you and keep control of the jump checking the water under you to get the best timing to bring the board back down. •When you feel like you are coming down, then its time to start the 180 rotation. Turn your head over your back shoulder and let go your back hand from the bar.
•Keep rotating untill when the board has done a full 180 rotation also by turning your bar behind your back. •Bend your knees and get ready to cushion the landing. Pass the bar and ride away! Important Tips: •When starting this trick, start with a smaller raley so its gonna be easier to learn the 180 back rotation. •Dont keep the kite too high, unless its gonna be hard to hold the bar once you let the back hand go. •Make sure you land with your board downwind, in order to land soft and be able to pass the bar behind your back.
