Mille
In the ranking of the world's most expensive watches, Richard Mille and his "RM031 High Performance", limited to
ten specimen, appear among the top ten. Richard Mille has lived in the world of superlatives since he launched his
first watch in 2001. Ever since, the platinum Tourbillion watches, double chronographs, with an annual calendar or a second
time zone as well as the diamond-encrusted mechanisms have inspired a new generation of horologists. Recently,
Richard Mille opened a new store on Munich's Maximilianstrasse.
The source of his inspiration is the world
of motor sports and Formula 1®. A large
part of his timepieces have a tonneaushaped
case, a sapphire glass back bezel
and skeletonised dials. There are hardly
any flat surfaces and the sandwichstyle
case is the most expensive and
the most difficult one in production, as
every component (front and back as well
as the centre part) are bent. Watchmakers
need to work with an accuracy to a
purposes), the "RM 020" applies carbon
nanofibre and the "RM 018 Boucheron"
represents wheels inside the watch
movement cut and chisled from semi
precious and precious stones incorporated
in hot brass in order to make a
perfect unit after the cooling process.
The techniques behind these innovations
require a lot of research, development
and investment.
