Making a
difference
Accommodation services for young single homeless people (such as our own Swan
Lane and Hollinbank House) are facing uncertainty around how they will be funded
in the future and the government is due to announce soon what will happen.
We spoke to Ryan Dunne,
Manager of our Single
Homeless Service, about
the difference these
services make.
The projects we
run at Connect help
young people who have had
challenges in their lives,
forge an independent future
and be an active part of their
community. Our aim is for
them to live happy and fulfilled
lives and to feel they belong
somewhere.
The support we provide
gives them the information
and learnt experience to help
them thrive on their own,
empowering them to grow,
regardless of what might
have happened in their past.
We work with them in many
different ways, from supporting
them on a one-to-one basis,
to group work around respect,
confidence, sexual health,
budgeting and activities such
as cooking, art, photography
and sewing.
We are currently completing
a social enterprise project
where the young people have
come together and decided to
make bath bombs to sell on.
This is a great opportunity for
them to be creative and learn
business skills at the
same time.
