OUR HERITAGE 

The Dolomite story began in 1897 when Joseph Garbuio 

opened a shoe factory in Northern Italy, aged just 

17. Since then the Dolomite brand has continually put 

itself to the test to improve, innovate and manufacture 

the finest outdoor footwear while remaining true 

to their heritage. The Dolomite brand is associated 

with some of the biggest successes in sport and 

mountaineering, including the 1954 Compagnoni and 

Lacedelli successful ascent of K2. 

As well as the 1954 K2 ascent, Dolomite provided 

boots for the Bonatti-Mauri expedition to Cerro Torre 

in Patagonia in 1958; the 1960 the successful ascent 

of Dahulagiri, Himalayas; the 1966 Italian Alpine club 

Greenland expedition to the 71st parallel; the 1973 

Italian expedition to Antarctica; the 1976 ascent of 

Fitz Roy in Patagonia; in 1993 a new route on Cerro 

Mocho in Patagonia which was set by Ferruccio 

and Piergiorgio Vidi, and notably the 2008 Italian 

expedition to and successful ascent of Everest. Today 

Dolomite specialise in high altitude mountaineering 

boots and trekking footwear, and lead the way in approach 

and scrambling technology with the excellent 

and innovative Steinbock range.
