We’ve built <strong>Fortuna</strong> around one goal: to protect the seller.<br />

Several years ago, we had grown a successful business in<br />

jewelry wholesale and retail. When it came to appraising,<br />

buying, and selling jewelry, we were confident.<br />

Then one day, a customer entrusted us to sell an imperial<br />

Chinese jade sculpture. Selling Asian art was new for us, so<br />

we did what we thought best: We went to one of the world’s<br />

largest auction houses. We genuinely believed it would sell.<br />

It didn’t. The piece sat with the auction house for 6 months,<br />

and on top of our disappointment we were charged over<br />

$2,000 in fees. It was an expensive way to accomplish nothing.<br />

We painfully learned firsthand how vulnerable sellers can be<br />

in areas they’re not experts in. Many of our clients that want<br />

to sell their jewelry do not have the knowledge of a trained<br />

jewelry professional and are unaware of the potential risks.<br />

Having experienced our own loss in trying to sell through an auction, we made the<br />

commitment to eliminate that risk for our clients. That’s why we have zero fees for photography,<br />

cataloging, marketing, or unsold lots. If your pieces sell, you are paid 100% of the hammer. If<br />

they don’t sell, you lose nothing.<br />

This is unprecedented in the auction industry, where the seller premiums are often 10% or more,<br />

on top of many additional fees.<br />

How to Consign<br />

Consignment begins with a valuation of your<br />

jewelry. While it’s better to see the pieces in<br />

person, we can give you an approximation of<br />

the value through photos.<br />

After a valuation, we will work with you to determine reserve<br />

prices for the pieces you choose to consign.<br />

IN PERSON<br />

You can make an appointment to visit us at our Fifth Avenue<br />

office in New York City.<br />

ONLINE<br />

Submit your photos and jewelry information via our online<br />

form and we’ll contact you with a valuation.<br />

MAIL IN<br />

Mail us your jewelry for valuation and we’ll mail back what<br />

you don’t wish to consign. We can also arrange an insured<br />

pick-up of your items.<br />

AT YOUR LOCATION<br />

If for reasons of health, distance, or jewelry collection size, we<br />

can arrange to visit you in person.<br />

payment advance of the reserve<br />

price. If the item sells above the<br />

reserve, you get the additional<br />

money minus a small commission.<br />

If there are no successful bidders,<br />

we keep the item.<br />

APPRAISALS AND VALUATION<br />

We tell you your jewelry’s fair<br />

market value, and if needed,<br />
