In that prison‐like environment, she waited for her “little Paul”, who was busy <strong>writing</strong> plays,<br />

developing his Catholic morality, and occupying various embassies. Camille never understood what<br />

was happening: she loved him so much that she never reproached anything, not even his<br />

abandonment of her. She focused all her rage on her defaulting lover Rodin. He was not of her<br />

family.<br />

2014 is the 150th anniversary of the birth of Camille Claudel. The evidence persuades us that her<br />

overwhelming demand for freedom is heard now by our modern outlook on humanity. But that is<br />

outside of Camille’s time. We are powerless in facing her painful past. We can, however, restore<br />

sense, life, and memory to her.<br />
