This creates a dynamic that keeps in view actual stories about real life with possible stories about potential life, as well as countless combinations of them. As a consequence, life narratives, like most literary texts, can be treated as open, without end. They are, as Bakhtin (1981) put it, “unfinalizable”, for life always opens up more options (“real” and “fictional” ones), includes more meanings, more identities, evokes more interpretations than even the number of all possible life stories could express.
