From 58.43% in 2014, the grade six National Achievement Test
(NAT) Mean Percentile Score (MPS) rose to 69.86% this year. An increase
of 11.43% placed Kalayaan Elementary School (KES) in top five
based on the MPS while ranked three in terms of increase among 19
elementary schools in the Division of Pasay. So far, this is the highest
increase for the past three years.

Good news spreads everywhere.
Indeed, the four-storey building with nine classrooms
and a covered court which have been
constructed are among the good news ever
brought to KES.
This issue of our school publication has been an
instrument to express our gratitude to the Local School Board
City Fund for the realization of these projects. Among the
others who made these possible, we the editorial staffs and
the rest of KES personnel are very thankful because the nine
classrooms has lessened the class sizes especially in the
kindergarten and higher grade levels. Likewise, the covered
court has improved the learning conditions/instructions
especially in Physical Education. It has also been a big shade
in case of the rain and hot rays of the sun during the conduct
of school celebration and events.

The last two years
had been a victorious reign
for the Blue Warriors Team
( KES Athletes , coaches ,
trainers and chaperons) in
the district championship
game. But this year has
wrought them to rank
fourth in over-all. Its quite
depressing but nevertheless,
there are some times
when victory isn’t a reach
of the game, the winner or
the lose.
Our athletes have sacrificed
a lot during trainings.
They practiced so hard
even at the middle of a hot
day. They were very determined
to wit the glory.
These sacrifices and
perservance among our
athletes should keep burning.
Despite the odds that
made them fail, they still
have the chance to succeed
next time.
To accomplish such goal,
never stop pursing what has
been started. Keep determined,
and have the right
discipline when there’s a
game lost, there will be
another game to win.

Our government
is aiming for a

The latest innovation of
the Philippine Education
System is the implementation
of the K-12
Basic Education Program.

landscape which will

The school
garden also serves
as the main source
of food to sustain the
supplementary feeding
in the campus. It
showcases a smallscale
production
model to be replicated
in the households.

Food is one of the
necessity which every students
and human beings
must have. They need food
to become strong to do their
daily activities in school.
But ,what if this need of our
students is being threatened
as well as their lives because
of food poisoning?
Food poisoning is a
very dangerous and is a
very serious case. It is
caused by accidentally or
intentionally putting some
harmful or toxic material in
food or due to bacteria. It
could cause nausea, vomiting,
diarrehea and other
symptoms.
Nowadays, many
cases of food poisoning is
being reported. Many students
are being confined in
the hospitals because of it.
Some of them missed their
lessons due to their
condition.
Because of this, the
government encourage
every campuses and citizens
to confirm if the product is
approved by them .Likewise
our school’s canteen now
put labels on their cooking
ingredients to avoid interchanging
of materials which
look exactly the same,
which is the common cause
of food poisoning . Canteen
personnel launched cleaning
programs to prevent
growth of bacteria that
could contaminate the
food .Our school also encourages
parents to become
active about the issue by
ensuring the foods that
their family eats.
Many parents are
grateful for this step which
our school has taken into.
They say that everyone
should be held responsible
for the issue to ensure the
safety of their learners.
They also promised their
active participation regarding
this matter.
In short, everyone
should be aware about
the situation if we do not
want our students to suffer.
All of us should be careful
in cooking and serving food
to avoid poisoning .Let us
be smart –buyers for our
loved ones .Let us value the
importance of food in our
lives., as well as our dear
learners who will be our
hope for the future. Let us

Social Welfare and Development’s
(DSWD) one big problem
is Child Abuse. It is done in
many ways, - physical, verbal or
sexual abuse. Child abuse is one
of the causes or factors that
affects the development of a
child. Based on the Child Protection
Policy, everyone who will
undergo child abuse will be
apprehended to prevent the
increasing number of this case in
the country.
Physical abuse is
also a kind of abuse where thevictim
earns scars, wounds and
bruises. Verbal abuse is the most
common form, of abuse being
experienced. It is done by teasing,
name callings or saying
harsh words to a victim. On the
other hand, sexual abuse is about
abusing a child sexually like
touching one’s genitals.
If these abuses
happen, it can cause a very
tremendous effect. The victim
may have psychological and
emotional problems. He/She
may not be able to build selfconfidence
and may not go to
school. Therefore, we can say
that it is really bad.
Parents also play an
important role. Parents should

time and

dren. They should always see to
to it that their safety must be
their priority. This conclude that
parents should be responsible to
their children. On this situation,
we should all participate about

Kalayaan Elementary School young journalisit claimed once again

Young Writers and Conference Contest (DYWCC) held last September
1,2,3 and 4 2015 at Padre Zamora Elementary School after winning 13
awards for individual category and one award for team category .

the campus to all types of
emergency particularly the
occurrence of an earthquake.
Also the organization
of the Built Emergency
Response Team (BERT)
which is composed of some
pupils who undergone Red-
Cross training and the teachers
and staffs as well as the
order personnel’s who take
charge of the entry and exit
points and the evacuation
area have intensified the use
of “Go Bag” for every rooms
as response to the school`s
preparedness in case of
emergency.
The “Go bag” is an
easy-to-carry backpack or
body bag where medicine,
antiseptics, other first-did
materials and list of studentsemergency
release contract
information are placed. This
bag is a must to carry when
heed arise. Children were
also instructed to bring other
emergency paraphernalia like
the improvised head gear
made up of door rags sewed
like that of a protective hat,
flashlight, sponge, bottled
water and a whistle for them
to use in case of emergency

full-heartedly

(SPGO), Eco Savers
Club, Kalayaan Science
Club “Ciencia”
and was launched
successfully last November
2014 with its
main goal of helping
to keep the school’s
clean and green.
This trusy
robot is a very colorful
construction of
aluminum metal and
cans of different
sizes, painted with
bright colors of red,
blue, green, yellow
and orange.
Its festive
colors is a way to
attract little pupils to
throw recyclable
trash in it instead of
leaving them in a
huge pile of mess
around. It encourages
kids to care
about the environment.
They don’t just
school cleanliness,
but also found it as
an amazing, big trash
bin.
Not only that
the Ecorobot helps to
keep the chool neat
and tidy, but it also
helps as a source of
income; the recyclable
garbage collected
from it can be sold to
junk shops. Apart
from all that, its collected
garbages
could be made into
decorative materials
used in campus.
We may have
heard about Wall-E
and Rodney Copperbotton,
some robots
who made history in
their fictionals world.
But in THIS world,
EcoRobot is the robot
that will save the
school from this
seemingly neverending
waste problem!
Colgate , in
partnership with the Department
of Education
( DepEd ) , launched the
Oral Health project
which started on September
16 , 2015.
The project was spearheaded
by Dr. Vicente
Medina , Principal Investigator
from the Collage
of Dentistry and Dr.
Susan Mabunga from the
University of the Philippines
. Collage of Public
Health .
The investigators
aimed to provide a
better program to fit the
objective. To reduce the
incidents of dental carries
in the country.
The assigned
dentists visited schools
all over Pasay City and
discussed proper teeth
care : The properway of
brushing the teeth , the
amount and type of tooth
paste of young kids and
the duration of the usage
of the toothbrush before
changing it .

regularly so that
the pupils will not damage
their teeth.
During their
project , a study is also
being conducted by the
doctors . They will
launch the program again
after three years and see
if there was a decrease in
the number of children

as time went by, she
started to have

has been slowly

which is brought
about by the many
vehicles started her
sickness. Not only
from these vehicles
but from the factories
which release dirty
gases and toxins. As
a result, polluted air
has not been lessen,
thus it has contributed
to greenhouse
effect, smog, and
worst of all, climate
change.
The trees are
decreasing abruptly
in number because of
deforestation and
illegal logging. Oxygen,
which is good to
keep her healthy is
replaced by carbon
dioxide and monoxide.
Even you, yourself,
when you inhale
this, you may suffer
from respiratory diseases.

National Achievement
Test (NAT) has been
annually administered to the
grade three and six pupils to
determine their mastery of the
skills learned in the previous
grade levels to grade six in
five major subjects namely
English, Math, Filipino,
Science and Hekasi
As part of the
testing, the grade six teachers
come up and implement a
strategy-based practice as
they called it “NATTING
DAYS” to be implemented
during preliminary activities
and Saturday review classes
for the grade six pupils who
will take the said exam.
This strategy focuses
on the various practices
or methods in a daily routine
to enhance a better learning
and review sessions.
Under this strategy,
teachers conduct drills
and review during their period
utilizing the different methods
“knot” days “not” day, “nut”
days and “NAT” day.
During the “knot”
day, learners will have to untie
or unlock their comprehension
skills by reading and answering
a short story or paragraph
and problem solving. The “not’
days focuses on oral discussions
or pupil-to-pupil interaction
on the least mastered
skills which are determined
after administering periodical
tests to arrive with possible
short solutions or or familiarization
on the content clue,
based from the given item
test. “Nut” day on the other
hand is constructed through
learners swapping. This
means that half of the number
of pupils in a class from a
certain lower section are
swapping or would seat in
with the other half of the number
of pupils in a certain
higher section to practice peer
-tutoring. The “Nat” day is the
monitoring or evaluation
through giving parallel NAT
test to measure the learners
progress or mastery of the
different skills in each major
subjects.
Portfolio assessment
and worksheets are also
given as part of the said strategy-based
practice.

Fund is used.
In connection
with the National Disaster
Consciousness
Month which is observed
every month of
July, the Department
of Education (DepEd)
promotes Family
Earthquake Preparedness
to all elementary
schools and instructs
all schools to conduct
emergency preparedness
plan at home.

instruct the pupils to
accomplish the family
earthquake preparedness
homework which
comprises of forms
with questionnaires
along with their family’s
responses.
These forms
are collected and
summarized by the
class advisers. The
results are submitted
to the barangay
officials for community
p r e p a r e d n e s s
planning.
The Department
of Education in
cooperation with the
Department of Health
(DOH) launched the
School-based Immunization
Program for all
Grade 1 pupils. It aims
to immunize all school
children who entered
grade 1 with appropriate
vaccines particularly the
measles rubella (MR)
and Tetanus Diphteria
(TD).
The vaccination
was given last September
16, 2015 held at
the school’s library under
the administration of
the Divisions Health
Team with the cooperation
of Barangay 201’s
Health Center nurses.
A notification or
permit was issued first
to the parents or guardians
of these children to
inform them about the
program.
Before the children
were given vaccination,
a short orientation
was conducted. The
pupils were assured of
full stomach before getting
vaccinated with 0.5
TD and deep intramuscular
left deltoid.
The noticeable
increase is another result
of the school’s continued
programs and projects
that geared towards monitoring
of daily mastery
levels of pupils. Those
include monitoring of
Daily Evaluation of Learning
Outcomes through
DLL (Daily Lesson Log
and production of Least
Mastered Skills Inventory
of Exercises. Likewise,
teachers also produce
more practice exercises
for their drills and reviews.
The school targets
this year a two to five
percent increase in NAT.
Other barangay
councils and city authorities
also conducted assistance
and surveyed the possible
outcomes of the preparedness
plan.

preparedness by doing the

covering their heads with the
improvised head-gear which
is made of door rags as well
as carrying some important
paraphernalia (SOS) which
includes first-aid medicines
and emergency survival kit.

cases is of great advantage.
Baztekhan is not a
martial arts school neither a
business nor a karate club. It
is a universal organization
composed of men, women,
children, young and old of
different beliefs. Praying
together every Sunday, sharing
the spirit of lifetime camaraderie
and love out of mingled
blood of one family. It
elevates one’s life to a position
far above anybody else. It
provides a unique and enjoyable
skillful life of a humble
beginning and humble ending.

The effectiveness
of learning the art of Baztekhan
is the extent to which
behavior is modified referring
to humility as the process of
learning and experience in
which favorably influences
toward total discipline. But
one important possible approach
is to focus on martial
arts learning, and one must be
generally very good, selforiented
to ensure maximum
effectiveness, quick action,
instinct common sense, and
the capabilities to achieve
quick reliable needs for survival.
Baztekhan is the
ultimate form of exercise that
integrates, promotes health,
sport self defense, physical
power, knowledge, long life
and discipline. It can be practiced
everywhere and anytime.
It requires no expensive
gadgets wide space and devices.
It can be learned by
young and old , tall or short,
rich or poor weak and strong
male and female blind or not
and even handicapped. It was
born out of the ideals in mind.
In reality, Baztekhan is no
heroics only for survival.
