Snow Pond Symphony 2016 Season

Welcome to NEMC at
Snow Pond Center for the Arts!
We are so excited that you have chosen to join us
for our 80th anniversary season here on the shores of
Lake Messalonskee! It has been a busy winter here on the
campus as we continued the work necessary to upgrade
and renovate the buildings and grounds surrounding us
on over 50 acres. Fortunately, the Maine winter was rather
gentle this year, so we made great progress! We hope you
will take some time while you are here to walk around the
beautiful grounds, and enjoy the historic buildings and
spectacular landscapes that we are fortunate enough to
enjoy every day.
It takes a village to maintain this special space, and
we would like to take a moment to recognize a few people
who have been instrumental in helping us accomplish
so much over this past year. Our neighbors to the south,
Bryan Bacon and his sons Nick and Adam, have dedicated
hundreds, if not thousands of hours here doing all of the
excavation work on campus. They are a joy to work with,
and have truly come to be members of our extended
family. Their work is exceptional, but their support and
willingness to help at all hours of the day—and night—is
appreciated more than they will ever know. There are
not words to thank them enough! Our own construction
staff has also put forth an extraordinary effort for the past
year, assuring that all of the projects started as soon as
camp closed last September were completed in time for
us to open this spring. Andrew and Paul Wiggin would
certainly make their great-grandfather proud, and Bert
Glines has once again helped complete dozens of projects
that have improved the lives of many now here. There are
so many others that have demonstrated dedication and
commitment throughout this year, and to all of them, we
are extremely grateful.
In celebration of the 80th anniversary of New
England Music Camp, we will welcome back hundreds of
alumni throughout the summer, as well as some special
alumni guests who will share their exceptional talents
with our campers and the greater community. Details
about many of those visits can be found later in this
magazine, and we hope all of you will be able to join us
during their visits as well. In early July, former campers
Lynn Chen and Nick Jandl will return for a couple of days
to share their experiences as successful television and
screen actors with the campers. Later in July, we cannot
wait to welcome back another former camper, Giora
Schmidt, an outstanding violinist who will perform a
number of times during his week in residence. We are so
grateful that these very successful alumni are willing to
share their valuable time and talents with our campers
and the community. Please watch for more details about
their visits in the local newspapers.
To all of our alumni that will visit at some point
during the summer, please know how very much we
appreciate your continued support of NEMC. This little
gem started 80 years ago by Paul and Nina Wiggin has
produced thousands of alumni that continue to make
NEMC a priority in their lives. We hope your return this
summer will help you relive some of the magic that we
know you experienced here in the past, whether it be last
summer, or 40 or more years ago.
To those of you here for the first time, we are so
happy you have found us! We want you to return often,
and become members of this wonderful family and
community. Please try to introduce yourself to us when
you are here, and be ready for the magic of NEMC and
Snow Pond to get under your skin and into your hearts.
We know it is a special place we have here, and it brings us
great pleasure to share it with all of you.
