Oops, I guess April was a while ago... Oh, well! Here’s the report for the Redwood
Riders’ first and second shows of 2012. California Gymkhana Association’s District
9 runs most of its shows at the Boulder Creek Stables off Bear Creek Road, just two
miles out of town (formerly known as Eddy Ranch). April 29th was the beginning of
what promises to be a stellar year for D9. We had a whopping 35 riders! We had to
get a little creative with our parking lineup, especially since we now have to use the
small turnout for a warmup arena instead of for parking. Everyone did a great job
making space for all the trailers and cars! Welcome to all the new riders. So glad
you came out to have fun with us!
High Point was donated by Scotts Valley Feed. Thanks so much for the awesome
saddle blankets and matching reins! Reserve was a silver concho. Our Raffle
Queen, Kat Ray, prepared and pulled off a fantastic raffle, raising a nice chunk of
change towards our Year End awards. Thanks to the Dreamor Ranch Foundation
for providing our snack shack. It was great to have food and drink available
between events. The day had a few minor hitches as the volunteers got used to
running a show again. The ground was not prepared correctly, and there were a
couple of scary moments for the faster riders, but no one was hurt. The mistake was
noted and proper preparation will occur for all future shows.
Our Run for Fun caused a lot of giggles: backwards Speed Barrels. Thanks, Bonnie.
That was a great idea! You had to back your horse, weaving three barrels up and
back. Fastest time went to Sue Landaiche, with 51.4 seconds!
As always, thanks so much for all our great volunteers: judges, gatekeepers, arena
helpers, booth workers, our board members and everyone who makes this club

A number of D9 members travelled to Ceres for State sponsored Northern Classic.
This Memorial Day weekend show was a pretty big deal, with High Point being $250
in dollar coins, and Reserve was $100. Third place Reserve was donated by a
vendor at the show: blingy ball caps. The eight of us who went did very well and

had a blast. We came home with a few winners, too! I, Rachel Crill, won AAA+
Third Reserve. Randy Barnard won A Reserve and Marietta Sullivan won A Third
Reserve.

Our May 20th show was almost as crowded, with 30 riders. The Boulder Creek
arena was prepped well and the riders were excited for the Redwood Riders’ second
show. At this show we had a tack swap and sale, with anyone invited to bring stuff
they wanted to get rid of. Dreamor Ranch Foundation’s snack shack returned, as
did our faithful volunteers! Couldn’t do this without help, so thanks everyone! It’s
so fun to see all our friends, old and new, coming out and having a good time.
Everyone is always yelling encouragement and cheering each other on. A big
welcome back to Randy Barnard’s horse, Sparky! We’re so glad he’s all better!
High Point was donated by Chris Rice, who made beautiful necklaces for us again.
Reserve was a silver concho. Our Run for Fun was the semi-official event Ribbon
Race. Thanks for setting it up, Bonnie. The winning team was Katie White and
myself, Rachel Crill, with a smoking time of 10.471 seconds! Not bad, Katie! We
should do it again!
