We already have considerable organizational b<strong>as</strong>es among <strong>the</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>ese. But among <strong>the</strong> Malays and<br />

Indians, we are still <strong>in</strong> an embryonic state. For <strong>the</strong> liberation of every oppressed <strong>Malayan</strong> national<br />

and for <strong>the</strong> victory of toil<strong>in</strong>g m<strong>as</strong>ses, we should resolutely implement this work!<br />

Accord<strong>in</strong>g to Yong, <strong>the</strong> MCP dispatched two delegates, Bun Teck-chai (Li Chi-sh<strong>in</strong>) (twice) and Li<br />

Su-kong to Shanghai to contact <strong>the</strong> FEB dur<strong>in</strong>g 1933 and 1934. Bun succeeded <strong>in</strong> contact<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

CCP agents and received advice from <strong>the</strong>m. <strong>The</strong> advice w<strong>as</strong> brought back to S<strong>in</strong>gapore and yielded<br />

results <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Federated Malay States Railway strike. <strong>The</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r official, Li Su-kong, w<strong>as</strong> sent <strong>in</strong><br />

1934. But no fur<strong>the</strong>r news on him surfaced. 15<br />

III 1934<br />

1. Decision of <strong>the</strong> CC of <strong>the</strong> MCP on affiliation to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong>, p<strong>as</strong>sed on 18 March 1934. Below<br />

is a summary of this Ch<strong>in</strong>ese-language document.<br />

Worker, employed pe<strong>as</strong>ant, poor pe<strong>as</strong>ant, toil<strong>in</strong>g m<strong>as</strong>s and soldier must possess <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

qualities; ○1 faithfulness ○2 fairly high cl<strong>as</strong>s consciousness ○3 spirit to sacrifice oneself for <strong>the</strong> people<br />

○4 absolute acceptance of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong> leadership, and ○5 active devotion to revolutionary work. In<br />

addition to <strong>the</strong> above, a student, teacher, <strong>in</strong>tellectual, middle-cl<strong>as</strong>s pe<strong>as</strong>ant, small merchant or<br />

officer ( 军 官 ) must endure toil<strong>in</strong>g life <strong>as</strong> a proletarian. 16<br />

2. Letter from <strong>the</strong> MCP dated 20 March 1934<br />

This Ch<strong>in</strong>ese-language document is summarized below.<br />

Cruxes are shown first: (1) In order to restore <strong>the</strong> Indonesian <strong>Communist</strong> <strong>Party</strong>, <strong>the</strong> MCP found one<br />

of its members. (2) He can contact hundreds of Indonesian comrades. (3) <strong>The</strong> Com<strong>in</strong>tern is<br />

requested to lead <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

Details are below:<br />

Relations with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong> of Java: although we searched <strong>in</strong> various quarters, we could not contact<br />

<strong>the</strong>m. Recently, through an Indonesian comrade we managed to f<strong>in</strong>d a clue. This comrade formerly<br />
