vii) Create opposition groups <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> reformist unions and w<strong>in</strong> over <strong>the</strong> best<br />

elements <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Labour Contract System Unions, Sarekat, Malaya, Anjuran,<br />

Islam, etc. unions.<br />

viii) Establish TU democracy, cont<strong>in</strong>ually tra<strong>in</strong> and develop new proletarian<br />

cadres and streng<strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> TU press.<br />

ix) Develop and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> closest contact with <strong>the</strong> rev. TU mov. <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Far<br />

E<strong>as</strong>t, esp., Indonesia, India and Ch<strong>in</strong>a.<br />

x) Mobilise <strong>the</strong> proletariat to support <strong>the</strong> Indian and Ch<strong>in</strong>ese revolution and<br />

defend <strong>the</strong> Soviet Union.<br />

xi) Unions must have a much wider b<strong>as</strong>e than <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong>. Even <strong>the</strong> most<br />

backward sections of <strong>the</strong> workers who are will<strong>in</strong>g to fight for <strong>the</strong>ir economic<br />

<strong>in</strong>terests can be raised <strong>the</strong>ir political consciousness.<br />

Fundamental slogans of <strong>the</strong> anti-imperialist agrarian revolution<br />

i) Overthrow of British Imperialism and power of <strong>the</strong> Sultans. Complete<br />

National Independence of <strong>the</strong> Malay States.<br />

ii) Establish a Federated Workers and Pe<strong>as</strong>ants Soviet Republic of Malaya. Full<br />

right of all national M<strong>in</strong>orities to self-determ<strong>in</strong>ation, even to separation.<br />

iii) Confiscation and nationalisation of all British Imperialists’ <strong>as</strong>sets.<br />

iv) Confiscation of compensation of all landed <strong>as</strong>sets of landlords (native <strong>as</strong> well<br />

<strong>as</strong> imperialist) and transfer <strong>the</strong>m for <strong>the</strong> use of toil<strong>in</strong>g pe<strong>as</strong>ants and<br />

agricultural labourers, immigrant <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong> native. Abolition of all debts and<br />

taxes of <strong>the</strong> pe<strong>as</strong>ants and agricultural laborers. Abolition of <strong>in</strong>denture<br />

contract and forced labour.<br />

v) Eight hour day. General <strong>in</strong>cre<strong>as</strong>e <strong>in</strong> wages. Equal rights for all workers.<br />

vi) Aga<strong>in</strong>st Imperialist war. Defend <strong>the</strong> Soviet Union and Ch<strong>in</strong>ese and Indian<br />

revolution. International work<strong>in</strong>g cl<strong>as</strong>s solidarity. 21<br />

<strong>The</strong> above <strong>in</strong>structions were quite similar to <strong>the</strong> Ten Big Demands adopted at <strong>the</strong> Third Congress<br />

of <strong>the</strong> NPC (Inaugural Congress of <strong>the</strong> MCP) <strong>in</strong> May 1930. While <strong>the</strong> right to freedom of <strong>as</strong>sembly,<br />

etc., w<strong>as</strong> not mentioned, <strong>the</strong> abolition of <strong>in</strong>denture contracts, and <strong>the</strong> defense of <strong>the</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>ese and<br />

Indian revolutions were raised.<br />
