also stressed; “Hereafter all <strong>the</strong> communists of Ch<strong>in</strong>a, India and Java should work under <strong>the</strong><br />

guidance of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong> of Malay and jo<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong> life” (see II-3-(3)-c). Did Belogurova make <strong>the</strong><br />

same misunderstand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>as</strong> <strong>the</strong> FEB?<br />

Notwithstand<strong>in</strong>g this comprehension and resolution, <strong>the</strong> MCP could not implement<br />

“<strong>in</strong>digenization” or “localization” sufficiently until <strong>the</strong> Pacific War.<br />

3. Letter from Shieng Kien Chu to <strong>the</strong> FEB<br />

In an English letter, dated 26 December 1930, which w<strong>as</strong> sent to <strong>the</strong> FEB, a certa<strong>in</strong> Shieng Kien<br />

Chu ( 胜 [ 单 ?, 香 ?] 建 柱 ?) noted, <strong>as</strong> summarized below:<br />

I w<strong>as</strong> <strong>in</strong>troduced by <strong>the</strong> CC of <strong>the</strong> Malaya <strong>Party</strong> to <strong>the</strong> CCP to receive any tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Not long after I had made connections with <strong>the</strong> CCP, <strong>the</strong> latter called a meet<strong>in</strong>g of<br />

<strong>the</strong> comrades work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Malaya to discuss <strong>the</strong> problems of Nanyang (Comrades<br />

Wang Yun Hai and Huang Moh Hang & I participated). Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> meet<strong>in</strong>g, it w<strong>as</strong><br />

decided to <strong>as</strong>k me to return to Nanyang. <strong>The</strong> comrades of <strong>the</strong> CCP stated that <strong>the</strong><br />

travell<strong>in</strong>g expenses would be given by you through <strong>the</strong> CCP.<br />

Three months h<strong>as</strong> p<strong>as</strong>sed by s<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> Meet<strong>in</strong>g. <strong>The</strong> CCP h<strong>as</strong> not only not given me<br />

<strong>the</strong> travell<strong>in</strong>g expenses but it h<strong>as</strong> not organized me with <strong>the</strong> nucleus. I am liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> a<br />

condition of extreme poverty, everyth<strong>in</strong>g hav<strong>in</strong>g been put <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> pawn shop.<br />

I have decided to return to Nanyang immediately and hope you will give me<br />

<strong>in</strong>structions & <strong>the</strong> travell<strong>in</strong>g expenses. 7<br />

It is difficult to identify who Shieng w<strong>as</strong>. His name h<strong>as</strong> not appeared <strong>in</strong> any historian’s research to<br />

date.<br />
