by McLane. It w<strong>as</strong> published <strong>in</strong> 1945. It runs: [<strong>The</strong> SSCP] held a Representatives’<br />

Conference <strong>in</strong> 1927, which set up a temporary committee, but due to <strong>the</strong> “<strong>in</strong>adequate<br />

knowledge” of its members and “lack of leadership from <strong>the</strong> Com<strong>in</strong>tern” little w<strong>as</strong><br />

accomplished. (see Charles B. McLane, Soviet Strategies <strong>in</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong><strong>as</strong>t Asia, New Jersey,<br />

Pr<strong>in</strong>ceton University Press, 1966, pp.132, 133, 535).<br />

8. <strong>The</strong> Far E<strong>as</strong>tern Bureau had been set up <strong>in</strong> 1926 <strong>in</strong> Shanghai to guide orig<strong>in</strong>ally <strong>the</strong><br />

communist parties of Ch<strong>in</strong>a, Korea and Japan. Its real activities started <strong>in</strong> 1929. In 1930,<br />

territories under its jurisdiction extended to Taiwan, Indoch<strong>in</strong>a, Indonesia, Malaya and <strong>the</strong><br />
