time be<strong>in</strong>g. With <strong>the</strong> b<strong>as</strong>ic correction of <strong>the</strong> p<strong>as</strong>t mistakes <strong>in</strong> 1929, <strong>the</strong> tu mov. began to walk along<br />

<strong>the</strong> right path.<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r defect is that <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong> headquarters at 巴 城 [Jakarta] and Borneo are under <strong>the</strong> guidance<br />

of <strong>the</strong> CC [Central Committee] of <strong>the</strong> M.<br />

[Malay?] <strong>Party</strong>; really <strong>the</strong>y should be guided by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong> at Java. This arrangement makes <strong>the</strong><br />

directive work very <strong>in</strong>convenient. …<br />

Should <strong>the</strong> CC of <strong>the</strong> Malay (sic) <strong>Party</strong> have relation with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong> at Kwangtung? How do we<br />

relate with it? (Because cds. [comrades] deported from <strong>the</strong> South Se<strong>as</strong> must p<strong>as</strong>s through HK. If <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Party</strong> at HK did not help <strong>the</strong>m <strong>in</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ance, <strong>the</strong>y must be very difficult or disappo<strong>in</strong>ted). 7<br />

A table of <strong>the</strong> membership of trade unions w<strong>as</strong> affixed to this English document (see Table 1).<br />

In an English letter, dated 28 December 1930, sent to <strong>the</strong> Far E<strong>as</strong>tern Bureau (FEB) 8 of <strong>the</strong><br />

Com<strong>in</strong>tern, Wang Yung Hai ( 王 永 海 ?), who had come to Shanghai more than three months earlier,<br />

noted that:<br />

(Cd.) Huang Moh Hang [Wong Muk Han] who w<strong>as</strong> driven out by <strong>the</strong> Nanyang<br />

Authorities after be<strong>in</strong>g rele<strong>as</strong>ed from jail … made a detailed report on <strong>the</strong> history &<br />

work of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong> <strong>in</strong> Nanyang from its establishment.<br />

… All <strong>the</strong>se have been sent to you thru (sic) <strong>the</strong> CC of <strong>the</strong> CCP. But accord<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

<strong>the</strong> cd. who came to see me, all … have not reached you! 9<br />

Two <strong>in</strong>ferences could be made from <strong>the</strong> different records summarized so far. First, <strong>the</strong> author of <strong>the</strong><br />

report on <strong>the</strong> trade union movement might have been a Ch<strong>in</strong>ese, or someone who could write<br />

Ch<strong>in</strong>ese characters (see 巴 城 above). A report written by Huang could have been <strong>the</strong> document on<br />

<strong>the</strong> trade union movement shown above (details see Chapter III-4). Second, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong> w<strong>as</strong> also<br />

called <strong>the</strong> Malay <strong>Communist</strong> <strong>Party</strong> (emph<strong>as</strong>is added). <strong>The</strong> name of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong> and o<strong>the</strong>r po<strong>in</strong>ts<br />

regard<strong>in</strong>g Wang Yung Hai and Huang Moh Hang will be fur<strong>the</strong>r exam<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> Chapter III.<br />
