(1) Tactics of <strong>the</strong> MCP<br />
<strong>The</strong> tactics of <strong>the</strong> MCP at various stages of <strong>the</strong> struggle were decided without sufficiently<br />
consider<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> concrete <strong>in</strong>ternational and local situations. Almost all <strong>the</strong> important political<br />
slogans of <strong>the</strong> CCP were mechanically transferred to <strong>the</strong> MCP. For <strong>in</strong>stance, like <strong>the</strong> CCP, <strong>the</strong><br />
MCP struggled for <strong>the</strong> establishment of <strong>the</strong> Worker-Pe<strong>as</strong>ant Soviet Republic until 1935. S<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong><br />
beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong> S<strong>in</strong>o-Japanese War, similar to <strong>the</strong> CCP, <strong>the</strong> MCP entirely devoted itself to <strong>the</strong> war<br />
aga<strong>in</strong>st <strong>the</strong> Japanese Imperialists. When Brita<strong>in</strong> w<strong>as</strong> opposed to Ch<strong>in</strong>a, MCP’s slogan, “No support<br />
for Brita<strong>in</strong>”, prevailed. And f<strong>in</strong>ally <strong>in</strong> January 1940, “Expulsion of <strong>the</strong> BI from Malaya” w<strong>as</strong> made<br />
<strong>the</strong> t<strong>as</strong>k <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> resolution of <strong>the</strong> Second Plenum of <strong>the</strong> CC. As long <strong>as</strong> slogans were given without<br />
tak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Malayan</strong> characteristics <strong>in</strong>to consideration, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong>’s objectives occ<strong>as</strong>ionally could not be<br />
atta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> practice.<br />
Deploy<strong>in</strong>g strenuous activities to support <strong>the</strong> people of Ch<strong>in</strong>a, many <strong>Party</strong> members replaced <strong>the</strong><br />
slogans proposed by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Party</strong> with <strong>the</strong>ir own. “For <strong>Party</strong>’s legal activities” w<strong>as</strong> replaced with “For<br />
abolition of all illegal activities” and “United front with participation of national bourgeoisie” w<strong>as</strong><br />
replaced with “Collaborative work with bourgeoisie”, “Secure peace and security of Malaya” w<strong>as</strong><br />
replaced with “Collaboration with Brita<strong>in</strong>”, and so on.<br />
(2) Work with Malays and Indians<br />
<strong>The</strong> MCP virtually relies only on <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>terests of overse<strong>as</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>ese; yet it formally claims it takes<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>terests of all <strong>the</strong> repressed people of Malaya <strong>in</strong>to consideration. In practice, <strong>the</strong>refore, <strong>the</strong><br />
MCP cannot demonstrate <strong>the</strong> true essence of <strong>the</strong> colonial policy of <strong>the</strong> BI. It could barely po<strong>in</strong>t out<br />
to <strong>the</strong> Malays and Indians <strong>the</strong> consistent <strong>in</strong>tentions of <strong>the</strong> Japanese <strong>in</strong>vaders toward Malaya. <strong>The</strong><br />
<strong>Party</strong> h<strong>as</strong> greatly contributed to rais<strong>in</strong>g its <strong>in</strong>fluence among overse<strong>as</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>ese. It led such<br />
organizations <strong>as</strong> <strong>the</strong> MCAEBS and <strong>the</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a Relief Fund. But it h<strong>as</strong> barely worked among <strong>the</strong><br />
Malays, Indians and o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>Malayan</strong> nationals.<br />
(3) Serious shortcom<strong>in</strong>gs of <strong>the</strong> MCP<br />
<strong>The</strong> resolutions of <strong>the</strong> MCP do not reflect <strong>the</strong> demands of pe<strong>as</strong>ants. <strong>The</strong> tactics for<br />
handl<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> national problem ( 民 族 问 题 ) were not sufficiently probed.<br />
