Location: Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, Phnom Penh<br />
(ECCC)<br />
BACKGROUND<br />
The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) is tasked to bring to trial<br />
senior leaders of the Democratic Kampuchea and those who were most responsible for the<br />
crimes committed during the <strong>Khm</strong>er Rouge regime from 17 April 1975 to 6 January 1979.<br />
The Public Affairs Section (PAS) is overall responsible for media relations as well as outreach<br />
and public information activities on behalf of the ECCC, and it supports and coordinates the<br />
public representation of all organs of the Court. PAS is in need of an experienced writer to<br />
produce attractive public information materials for key target audiences, especially as it is<br />
about to publish a new monthly <strong>Khm</strong>er magazine to send key messages to the local<br />
population more effectively.<br />
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<br />
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Public Affairs Section and direct supervision of<br />
the Public Affairs Officer (international) and Press Officer (national), the incumbent will be<br />
responsible for the following duties:<br />
� Write, edit and proofread texts (mainly in <strong>Khm</strong>er but also in English) for ECCC public<br />
information materials such as the monthly supplement, booklet, one-off magazines,<br />
newsletters, brochures, leaflets, fact sheets, website and Intranet;<br />
� Pro-actively seek opportunities to submit news/feature articles for external<br />
publications such as newspaper ads and op-eds, and draft texts for submission;<br />
� Assist with the preparation for press releases;<br />
� Translate the English texts to <strong>Khm</strong>er and vice versa for publications;<br />
� Act as an interpreter for international staff when conducting interviews;<br />
� Assist with the presentation of graphics/photos and the layout of the public<br />
information materials;<br />
� Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisors or when required by the Chief of<br />
Public Affairs Section<br />

Professionalism: Demonstrated ability to research and write reader-friendly articles of the<br />
highest quality on both legal and non-legal topics for the general population as the target<br />
audience.<br />
Communication: Excellent writing skills in <strong>Khm</strong>er and English, and ability to explain complex<br />
legal issues in plain language easily understood by lay persons.<br />
Team Work: Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a multi-cultural and ethnic<br />
environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.<br />
Planning and Organizing: Proven ability to plan, organise and prioritize work effectively, and<br />
work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.<br />
RECRUITMENT QUALIFICATIONS<br />
Education:<br />
� Completion of secondary education with special training or<br />
work experience in journalism. University degree in the field of<br />
communications or relevant fields desirable.<br />
Work Experiences: � 3 to 4 years of work experience in a relevant field, preferably<br />
in journalism as a writer/editor for <strong>Khm</strong>er/English publications.<br />
� Good knowledge of relevant computer applications and<br />
English and <strong>Khm</strong>er typing skills (Unicode)<br />
� Proficiency in desktop publishing softwares (InDesign,<br />
QuarkXpress, or Publisher) is an advantage<br />
