AQUARIUS HOROSCOPE
(JAN’ 20 -FEB’ 18)
Listen to what other people say to you
today, Aquarius. There are valuable
experiences waiting around the corner.
The important thing to do now is recognize
opportunities when they arise. The road to
success isn’t always well marked. Take a
chance on the road with no signs at all. You
have the courage and pioneering spirit to
pursue the adventurous route, so go for it.
CAPRICORN (DEC’ 22-JAN’ 19)
You’re often called the “cleanup crew.”
Whether it’s the home or the unconscious,
you enjoy preparing nests for all sorts of
births, real and figurative. Don’t be surprised
if you find yourself tidying up your home,
throwing away useless things, clearing the
desk, or catching up on mail. There are
powerful forces compelling you to prepare
for someone or something new and different.
CAPRICORN (DEC’ 22-JAN’ 19)
The pragmatic Capricorn can sense at once
whether a new concept is going to work. Their
forthright attitude also means that if they think
you fall short, they will have no problem telling it
“to your face”. Capricorns are great at improvising
too. They are quick to adopt good ideas and
can make all the necessary adjustments to make
them perfect for the given situation.
AQUARIUS JAN’ 20-FEB’ 18
Those born under the Aquarius sign are generally
erratic. Their behavior and temperament are so
unpredictable that it is impossible to define their
personality type. However, they usually make
wonderful first impressions. At first sight, an
Aquarius will come across as a most charming
and well-mannered person. People find them
very interesting company as they are active and
adventurous by nature.
JEWELRY
OF THE
MONTH
Hello once again UR IT readers. This month we will
be highlighting the January birthstone, Garnet. The
word garnet is derived from the Latin word granatus
meaning seeds. The deep red-purple color of the
most common garnets resemble pomegranate seeds,
hence the name garnet. In 1912 the American Association of
Jewelers made garnet the official birthstone of January and also the
gift for the 2nd and 6th wedding anniversaries.
There are 38 known garnet names and this is a jewel that is
still being found in new varieties around the world. Garnet comes
in a plethora of colors including green Tsavorite, Rhodolite, which
is a raspberry pink like the rhododendron flower and has been
mined in North Carolina, Hessonite, with it’s cinnamon color, and
Spessartine a red-orange colored stone just to name a few. There
are also some color change garnets and this simply means they
change their color depending on the light source.
ETSY.COM/SHOP/URITMAG
The garnet has been associated with fire and was thought
to illuminate the night sky. The Jewish legends believe a garnet
guided Noah safely to his destination. Norsemen thought being
buried with garnets would light their way to Valhalla. Muslim
legend believes garnets illuminate the fourth heaven. Crusaders set
garnets in their armor to lead them to safety.
Even though garnets are believed to bring good luck to
their owners, if stolen they will bring bad luck to the thief. I hope
you enjoy our short articles and I’ll dig up the facts for next month’s
gemstone, amethyst.
HELLO 2015! but before
we welcome a new year
FIRST LET’S RECAP
a year of growth, SUCCESS,
& MOST IMPORTANTLY BEING IT!
do this at home with a light box
which gives off bright light. You
can also sit 3 feet away from a 300
watt bulb for 20 minutes three
times a day. This will also increase
your production of serotonin.
5. Take up a hobby
Keep your mind active. Make it
something to look forward too.
It can be anything from singing,
going to the gym, keeping a
journal or writing a blog. Just
concentrate on something that
interests you.
6. Visit family and friends
Being social is good for your
mental health. This alone can lift
your spirts.
THE WINTER blues
you can also take a low dose of
melatonin in the morning.
If your symptoms are so bad you
feel you can’t live a normal life seek
medical help. Once days become
longer people generally recover
completely. This is usually around
April or May. So hang in there,
Spring is just around the corner.
How to Avoid
THE WINTER blues
Everyone has heard of the
term “winter blues.” The
holidays and parties are
over. All the decorations
must come down and be put
away. Visiting family and friends
have gone back home. If you were
on vacation or just had a few days
off, it’s time to go back to work!
But there are also other
reasons for these feelings that
most people experience during
the winter months. The medical
term is seasonal affective disorder
or SAD. It can affect people of any
age and any part of the world.
This disorder affects 25 million
Americans, mostly women. Winter
depression is still a mystery to
scientists who study it. Brain
chemicals, ions in the air and
genetics seem to be involved.
Also the lack of light in the winter
time can also be a factor. Lack of
light can result in lower levels of
serotonin, the mood - enhancing
chemical that regulates hunger
and the feeling of well being.
Everyone is affected differently
and what works for one person
may not work for another.
SOME OF THE KEY
SYMPTOMS ARE:
- Depression
- Sleep problems - partly
because they don’t have enough
serotonin to convert to melatonin
which is a key to sound sleep.
- Lethargy
- Over eating
- Irritability
- Low self esteem, feeling
down and unsociable
- Panic attacks
(These symptoms can range from
mild to severe).
SOME EXAMPLES TO LIFT
YOUR SPIRITS ARE:
1. Keep active
Research shows that a daily walk
in the morning or midday can
help. This not only keeps you fit,
it also aides in the production of
serotonin in the body.
2. Keep warm
Being cold can make you more
depressed. Studies show staying
warm can reduce the winter blues
in half. Drink warm drinks and eat
hot foods. Wear warm clothes and
shoes. Also try to keep your home
between 64F and 70F degrees.
3. Eat Healthy
Balance your cravings for
carbohydrates. Eat plenty of fresh
fruits and vegetables. Cut back
on caffeine, which suppresses
serotonin. Some other suggestions
are eating (popcorn, oatmeal,
nuts, egg whites, peanut butter
and cottage cheese) Also increase
your protein intake, which will
increase your energy level.
4. See the Light
Light therapy can help up to
85% of diagnosed cases. You can
Summer of 2014 we once again visited Glendale Lake for the traditional
Ur It Jewelry shoot. From pop up thunderstorms, to crazy gusts of wind,
to two park rangers who just couldn't get enough of Haley, we were
able to introduce several new pieces of jewelry as well as produce ads
inspired by H.Stern, David Yurman, and Calvin Klein (imitation is the
greatest form of flattery and it's fun to slip into that world giving r models
a chance to show they r it as well). This year we are visiting a different
lake, but u'll have to wait until this summer to find out where.
LOOKING BACK

October was all about going hard or going home, and UR IT
Magazine went hard! We had professional make up artist Tori Long
jazz up the UR IT models for the extreme looks photoshoot. To top it
off UR IT Magazine took part in the Holidaysburgh halloween parade
(the largest parade in blair county). We flooded the streets with UR
IT Magazine, made a You Tube video for it, and had the UR IT Nation
asking for more! Over all we would say it was 100% success.
LOOKING BACK Ocean City
Then it was off to Ocean City
where we jumped into a car at
1am on a Sunday morning, took
a wrong turn, got lost in Baltimore
where convenience stores
have bars on their windows and
speaker systems to order through
for employee safety which lead
to a combative conversation on
GPS systems, why we have them,
and why I (the owner of Ur It)
was completely stupid as well as
ridiculously arrogant for refusing
to use one (thank u for that Brittany
LOL). In the end, it was a
successful, memorable, enjoyable
day that has changed Ur It from
that day on. Wait till u see where
we go this year.
lose “x” amount of pounds by joining
a fitness center you really can’t afford
or a program you know you can’t keep
up with, start parking further away in
the parking lot at work or when going
to the grocery store. You can even
start a habit of pacing around your
house while texting or talking on the
phone. These changes won’t affect
your income or drastically change your
routine, but they will help make
a difference!
Instead of dropping pounds by
eliminating favorite foods, consider
introducing new healthy foods and
meals into your diet. You can acquire a
taste for the healthy foods and not feel
as if you’re giving yourself withdrawals.
Perhaps replace a lunch of pizza with
a salad or turkey wrap once a week.
Then, replace a snack of potato chips
with an apple and raisins on another
If your goal is to save a few extra
bucks this year, think about making
subtle adjustments when treating
yourself throughout the year. Treat
yourself to items or services that have
longer-lasting worth so you’ll spend
money less often. For instance, instead
of that $35 dinner and drink once a
week, or $60 night at the bar once a
week, buy an item for your home or
have your nails or hair done. These
“rewards” may satisfy you for a couple
of weeks – now you have that extra
$35 or $60 because you didn’t need
another validation of your self worth.
Maybe you’d like to start going to (or
back to) church, but you’re feeling
a bit overwhelmed to commit to
every Sunday. Being overwhelmed
could lead to you saying, “Forget
it.” Here’s where you should say, “I
need to start somewhere. I will go
one Sunday a month for two months,
then two Sundays….” Then set aside
Wednesday evening to read through a
Bible verse.
This New Year is a time for
contemplation about how you can
be your best, not for feeling guilty
for past failures or obsessing about
future issues. This year, there’s no
need to be drastic about changes. Be
you! (Remember, “Ur it!”), and make
small adjustments that will allow you
to improve and be happy instead of
frustrated and giving up by January 15!
Write your goals and speak
them DAILY! Did you know
that less than half of America
will write down their goals,
but even less will speak them
aloud. Our words have
POWER to them. Have you
ever talked about a person,
then that day or within the
week seen them? Might be
a coincidence or it could be
the basic laws of attraction.
What you keep before your eyes will eventually
appear before us in real life. Now I’m not saying if
you stare at a picture of a Lexus you will have one
appear in your drive way, but by keeping your
goals in font of you at all times this will trick your
brain into finding a way to accomplish your goals.
Just like walking, you have to see where your
going first or you will crash. I know we’ve all had
those crashes in life where we wake up the next
day asking how the hell did I get into this mess! If
we know where we are headed it makes it easier
to avoid problems to come!
Speak positive declarations over your life and the
lives of other. Even when your upset at someone
or in a bad mood, do not give into the temptation
of giving power to the negative forces. You will
not only begin to feel better but you will see a
shift in yourself - remember how we just talked
about speaking your goals aloud because our
words have power? Yep keep speaking happiness,
joy, and love in your live and you will soon see A
LOT more happiness, joy, and love.
Not everyone will find it easy to make the
transition into a more peaceful life, but nothing
in life is easy or fast unless you are headed down
hill. You have to have why power not will power.
The why power is the reason you do anything, and
it has to be a burning desire or else you will find
yourself sinking comfortably onto the couch again
popping on that favorite TV show.
inner peace in the moment. It is about the
shifting of one’s awareness to a new state.
Meditation has countless benefits ranging
from physical to emotional, and of course
spiritual. With the belief in yourself and
your thoughts, and the awareness that
you manifest your own reality you literally
have the universe at your fingertips during
mediation. How do you meditate? Just
be. Short, sweet, and to the point right?
Some people might laugh and scoff at this
statement; proclaiming me just another
hippie who thinks they know what they’re
talking about, or some guru who thinks he
knows it all… But depending on your level
of awareness the two little simplest words
can either have a profound effect on you,
or not even resonate at all as your eyes
scroll past the letters before your brain gets
the chance to contemplate the meaning.
Depending on how you perceive things,
your ideal meditation might be one of many
things; such as listening to music, playing
your favorite sport, performing on stage,
doing yoga, or the traditional sitting alone
in a dark silent room. There are countless
ways to meditate, you just have to pick
one and go into the experience with the
mind set that whatever comes up in this
moment is essential to your growth and
development as a soul.
“Nothing
in life is
easy or fast
unless you
are headed
down hill”
Another path to peace is meditation. Meditation
is relinquishing the need to control a moment. It
is about accepting everything as it is, and finding
