Build A Green Future 10 Ways To Promote
Environmental Education In Schools!

Environmental education is also necessary to make children
aware about the long term benefits of green living in terms of
health, society and as a responsibility as citizens. Here are some
ways to promote green education in schools:

1. Have a Committee for Green Initiatives
Children spend a major chunk of their day in school, and thus it’s
a great place to instill awareness. Children should be made to
participate in these green activities as part of their curriculum.
These may include planting a tree, learning about your favorite
plant, growing your own vegetables and fruits, different types of
flowers, highlighting the hazards of littering and benefits of
reducing waste, encouraging recycling, etc.

2. Cut Down on the Use of Paper
Schools use the most amount of paper. Encourage children to
use recycled paper, or double-sided printed paper. A great way is
to make sure children keep their course books in good conditions
they can pass them on to those who may come in the same
class the following year. This not only saves money (you don’t
have to empty your pocket on buying new books) but also saves
paper.

3. Use Solar Lights
Schools should use solar lights or energy savers, while keeping
children informed about the benefits of solar in the long run.
Encouraging them through different solar activities can promote
awareness and help improve energy conservation too.

4. Explore Wildlife
Wildlife is an important part of the ecosystem. It’s important to
facilitate school children with different ways in which they can
grow fond of wildlife animals and understand the important part
these animals play in our ecosystem. Many places offer wildlife
excursions and day trips for school children- that can be great
learning and fun too!

5. Green Commute
Encourage children to come on foot or to use bicycles to school.
Many children are exposed to bus idling, which has its own set of
environmental and health hazards. Encouraging green living and
using greener ways of commute is not only healthy for the body
and mind but also for the planet.

6. Discourage Too Much Printing

Thanks to technology, the use of paper in offices has come down
drastically. The same should be encouraged in schools, to reduce the
use of paper. If the need of printing be, double sided printing should be
the norm to save paper.

Environmental education holds great importance for children and adults
alike. As kids learn to grow fond of wildlife and the environment, they
become aware of its advantages, and the importance of conserving
nature. The education from a young age instills a sense of responsibility
towards the planet, so they grow up to be inclined towards
environmental friendly ways and are likely to pick up careers and
interests in the same if they stay in touch with it throughout their
adolescence and preteen years.
