The Adventure Continues...
PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
Bob Lilley
President
The California Mid-State Fair Staff and Board of Directors would like
to welcome you to the 70th annual Fair in Paso Robles July 20-31,
2016. This year’s theme, “The Adventure Continues…”, showcases
the community coming together for fun, family, friendship, education,
entertainment, and a celebration of our long standing western heritage.
Top notch entertainment, agricultural activities, and the spirit of
competition will be highlighted during this year’s Fair. The Fair’s
mission to preserve, promote, and showcase agriculture and the
traditions of San Luis Obispo County will be met with competitive
livestock and horse shows, and an expanded Rodeo line-up. Grandstand and free stage entertainment will feature
some of the biggest names in the business.
This year also represents a significant change in leadership for the California Mid-State Fair and Paso Robles Event
Center. Long term Chief Executive Officer Vivian Robertson retired in 2015, creating a nationwide search for a new CEO.
The Board of Directors and Staff would like to thank Patricia Kress, 2016 Interim CEO, for her service and welcome
new Chief Executive Officer, Michael Bradley, who will lead the organization into the future.
The hard work of the staff, dedicated volunteers, sponsors, and the Board of Directors all contribute to making the
“Biggest Little Fair Anywhere” a huge success.
WELCOME ABOARD
Michael H. Bradley
Chief Executive Officer
It is my distinct honor to welcome you to the 2016 edition of the
California Mid- State Fair set for July 20- 31 in beautiful Paso Robles.
This fair is a national treasure. Perhaps no fair in America can boast
it’s decades of success, not to mention that it has set the standard for
which other fairs across the nation are measured. That combination of
World Class Entertainment, fair food, 4-H, brilliant flowers, blue ribbons,
rodeo, FFA, local talent, apple pie, Carnival, wonderful landscapes
and livestock is unequalled for 12 fun packed days. Bring your family,
connect with neighbors, enjoy Gold Medal wines and just plain “people
watch”. Special areas of the fairgrounds include Mission Square where
fine wine and great music provide a relaxing but memorable atmosphere,
the always amazing Frontier Stage performances and then who can forget Jimmy’s, the hot night spot to find
old friends and the best place to meet new ones. Fairs are about memories. They provide a glimpse of yesterday’s
traditions, today’s popular culture and tomorrow’s dreams. The California Mid State Fair is dedicated to reflecting
the state’s 16th Agricultural District through a diverse showcase which presents locally grown agricultural products,
people, industry, talent, natural resources, Big Name entertainment, our region’s communities and what’s new in the
market place. Most of all we are dedicated to families and fun!
As a 4th generation Californian, I encourage you to attend the fair many times and join us as we celebrate what is
best about the Central Coast of our Golden State. We welcome your comments and invite you to become a member of
Our Heritage Foundation or Friends of the Fair Volunteer organization. All the best!
Airgas, along with Cuesta College, is pleased to present the Industrial Education Program,
designed to showcase the many talents of local high school fabricators. High school shop
instructors oversee their students, who design a variety of projects using basic and
advanced welding techniques, to produce BBQ’s, trailers, utility racks, wine racks, shop
benches, porch swings, coffee tables, and other stunning projects. The Airgas Industrial
Education Program was started over 20 years ago, and last year alone raised over $60,000
for the students at the annual project auction taking place each year on Cattlemen’s &
Farmer’s Day. This year, visit all the projects in the BRAND NEW location, in The Barn on
Equestrian Lane!

Once again this year, JB Dewar and Chevron Delo® are pleased to reward
with a platform to share their workmanship, along with the distribution
of scholarships. JB Dewar mentors and advises students, teaching them
business skills, teamwork, project management, budgeting, planning,
and marketing lessons in the process of their restoration. The JB Dewar
Tractor Restoration Competition started in 2002 and has continued to
be an opportunity that has changed the lives of over 50 students. While
you’re at this year’s Fair, make sure you visit the restored tractors, on
display in the Jr. Livestock Area, near the Beef Barns!

HERITAGE FOUNDATION
The Heritage Foundation, a non-profit public benefit
corporation 501(c)(3), has been hugely
instrumental in the success of the 16th District
Agricultural Association. The community’s
overwhelming and appreciated response shines
through in the countless enhancements that have
been made to the facility since 1999. Visitors can
take great pride in the notable amount of capital
investment made within the facility, most notably the
Equestrian Center, Livestock Pavilion, Heritage
Building, Section 8 Grandstand, the Stockyard
Pavilion, Mission Square area (including the
commercial kitchen), demonstration kitchen
(adjoining Estrella Hall), and many other smaller
projects completed over the years.
At the conclusion of this year’s Fair, the Heritage
Foundation will begin construction on brand new
commercial buildings that will house our Jr.
Livestock show. A special “Goodbye Barn” party will
be held on August 28… tickets for the party will be
available for purchase at the Heritage Foundation
office during this year’s Mid-State Fair!
The Heritage Foundation, now boasting over 200
memberships, has never veered from their mission
to: preserve and enrich the heritage of the 16th
District Agricultural Association and showcase
agricultural industries to the community; offer
support to the 4-H and FFA projects and create
agricultural education opportunities; maintain a
standard of excellence in the facilities and create
capital improvement opportunities; and to serve as
an arm of the California Mid-State Fair that can
accept charitable donations.
If you would like further information on joining the
California Mid-State Fair Heritage Foundation, please
feel free to call (805) 238-3745, or visit us online at:
www.thecmsfheritagefoundation.org.
On behalf of the California Mid-State Fair, we extend
a huge “THANK YOU” to our Heritage Foundation for
all that they do!!!
