SOLEMN LITURGICAL RECEPTION As Bishop Vincent is led to the entry door gates of the Cathedral, the Cathedral bell ‘Patrick’ will be tolled. The Bishop is greeted first by members of the local Aboriginal community elders and representatives. Bishop Vincent is solemnly received by the Metropolitan Archbishop, Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP, the Administrator of the Diocese of Parramatta, Very Rev Peter G. Williams, and the College of Consultors. The Dean of the Cathedral, Very Rev Robert Bossini, presents him with the crucifix to kiss, and holy water to bless himself and those around him. Bishop Vincent is then led to the tabernacle in the Cathedral Chapel to pray for a short time before the Blessed Sacrament. As the Bishop is led to the Blessed Sacrament for Prayer, the schola sings the following antiphon. ANTIPHON Sacerdos et pontifex Gregorian Chant Sacerdos et Pontifex et virtutum opifex, pastor bone in populo,sic placuisti Domino. O priest and bishop, and worker of all virtues, good shepherd of your people, you have pleased the Lord. PSALM 116 (117) Laudate Dominum omnes gentes laudate eum omnes populi O praise the Lord, all you nations: praise him, all you people. Quoniam confirmata est super nos misericordia eius et veritas Domini manet in saeculum For his mercy is confirmed upon us: and the truth of the Lord remains for ever. Gloria Patri et filio, et Spiritui Sancto Sicut erat in principio, et nunc et semper Et in saecula saeculorum. Amen. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Bishop Vincent is then led into the Cathedral and presented to the assembly, who acclaim the new bishop, singing the antiphon ‘Ecce sacerdos magnus’. ANTIPHON Ecce sacerdos magnus The Bishop is then led to the sacristy where he vests for the celebration of the Holy Mass.
