We had an exceptional first quarter. We continued our organic growth
momentum, we strengthened each of our franchises with strategic
investments aimed at driving continued profitable growth, and we
continued our transformation with significant advancements on each
of our five SFS 2.0 initiatives.
Global Tools & Storage:
Impressive organic growth spanned all regions: North America
+10%, Europe +5%, and the emerging markets +9%. The GTS
business’ wholehearted embrace of SFS 2.0 over the past twelve
months is paying dividends so far this year, with results driven by
a healthy combination of commercial execution, innovation and
operational improvements.
Security:
Operating performance continued to improve, with an 11.9%
operating margin rate (+110 basis points), organic growth in
many areas of the business, and encouraging order trends in both
Europe and North America.
Industrial:
Tough comparables for the Engineered Fastening business coupled
with softness in its industrial and consumer electronics end markets
led to an overall decline in revenues, while Infrastructure stabilized
and delivered flat revenues amid challenging markets.
While a strong first quarter does not necessarily preordain a strong year,
it is certainly a positive head start. Our plan to outperform is predicated
on getting ahead and staying ahead. Thank you for your contributions
to our success this quarter as well as for your continued dedication to
our success this year.
We Completed the
Acquisition of GQ.
We finalized the acquisition of Jiangsu Guoqiang
Tools Co. Ltd, manufacturer of China’s third largest
domestic brand of power tools and spare parts. This
was a strategic step in driving the expansion of our
Global Emerging Markets initiative and strengthening
our strategy of designing and manufacturing products
in local markets for local markets. We look forward
to the future with this important brand and strategic
operations.
Employee Survey Follow Up.
After the Global Employee Opinion Survey we
conducted last year, we held several levels of round
tables and town halls. These meetings were held in
every business and function, and covered all levels of
employees. Through these, we heard several consistent
messages:
1. You want to see better linkage between performance
and rewards.
2. You want better insight into the company’s
strategy.
3. You want more visibility into opportunities for
career development.
So Here’s What We’re Doing:
1. We’re revamping our OPR process. In the
coming months, you’ll hear about OPR 2.0, an
online and digital process. This will also shift
the focus of OPR from an annual event to an
ongoing dialogue between associates and
their managers. We have taken your feedback
seriously and improvements are underway.
2. We’re taking steps to explicitly align our communications
with our overall business strategies,
and we are committed to clarifying the
linkage between our communications and our
vision for the future of the company. Recent
enhancements include more updates from
the top of the organization and an enhanced
focus on cascading information more broadly
and deeply throughout the organization. In
fact, this newsletter is a direct result of your
feedback – we hope you enjoy it.
3. Our OPR 2.0 process will also address enhanced
career opportunities, first by more clearly identifying
the positions and activities that drive
strategic value for the organization, and then
by ensuring we have the right people in those
roles.
UPCOMING!
The 2016 Global Employee Opinion Survey will be
held in September of this year. Your input is essential
to our continuous improvement and we value your
feedback. Please participate!
Year in Review
Every year, to accompany our Annual
Report, we create a “Year in Review”
website that covers our successes and our
strategy for growth.
This site includes valuable information for
all employees, including our annual letter
to shareholders, our financial scorecard, a
few highlighted success drivers, and much
more.
The site is a valuable resource to see the
breadth and scope of our Company. While
our employees make tremendous contributions
in their business or region, this “Year
in Review” is a great representative of how
those pieces come together.
We encourage you to take some time to
check it out. Visit www.sbdinc.com.
STRATEGIC UPDATE
& SFS 2.0 PROGRESS.
“Our vision for the next chapter is to continue to be a great
industrial company, delivering top quartile growth and
profitability, operating our strong innovation-driven businesses
in diverse global markets, and powered by a robust and
pervasive SFS 2.0 operating system, which has been embraced
across the entire company.”
9
Jim Loree, President & COO

Strategy & Alignment
As we drive forward into 2016, our focus as a Company is clear: Strategy & Alignment, SFS 2.0 Transformation
and Talent Development.
Over the next few years, our goal is to continue on
our journey to becoming an elite industrial company,
delivering top quartile growth and profitability. We will
continue to operate our businesses in diverse, global
markets and differentiate ourselves through innovation
and our pervasive operating system powered by SFS
2.0.
We are committed to growing our Company, providing
increased opportunities for our employees and
broadening the impact that we have around the world.
Our financial vision is to drive toward 10% total
revenue growth, of which 4% to 6% will be organic,
with a 16%+ operating margin, 10+ on capital turns,
and free cash flow that is greater than net income.
But this won’t be easy. The world is rapidly changing
and advancing, becoming faster and more challenging.
So, we must adapt in order to continue the growth of
our Company.
We have a simple plan of action, which begins with
SFS 2.0.
MORE
10

Strategic Update & SFS 2.0 Progress
SFS 2.0 Transformation
In order to accomplish our goals, we must leverage the five key initiatives of SFS 2.0 (Core SFS, Functional
Transformation, Digital Excellence, Commercial Excellence, and Breakthrough Innovation) to modernize our
Company, strengthen our operations, and enhance our culture.
We have already seen this transformation taking hold across the company, faster and deeper than any other
initiative in our history. Here is our outline for SFS 2.0:
• Digital Excellence is at the center of our strategy.
We will harness and apply the disruptive power of
digital to elevate our Digital IQ.
• With Breakthrough Innovation, we will form
dedicated teams across the company and establish
a new culture (apart from incremental innovation).
We will use the change from Digital Excellence to
make an impact on our growth and revenue.
• Commercial Excellence, in combination with
Digital Excellence and Breakthrough Innovation,
will establish continuous process improvements
across all customer facing activities. We will be able
to be systematic in driving our process excellence.
• Functional Transformation is our way to fund
the margin growth and these other programs. We
will have a “clean sheet” zero based approach and
completely re-think and re-tool our back-office
functions. Again, Digital Excellence is the link to
help us achieve this.
• Core SFS means always getting better at everything
we do. Leveraging Digital Excellence, we will begin
to digitize the supply chain and smart factory.
11

Strategic Update & SFS 2.0 Progress
Left to Right: Ralph Doran, Anthony Cairo, Ajay Rao,
Omar Eldardiry, Colbi Bradley, Weronika Serafin, and
Ali Valenti
Talent Development
All of this success is driven by you. Our culture, coupled with an enhanced approach to talent development
and deployment, will ensure that we are ready for a future of profitable growth.
We’re revamping our OPR process and will soon launch OPR 2.0 This will not only digitize the process by
taking it online for the next OPR cycle, but also shift the focus from an annual “event-driven” process
to an ongoing dialogue between associates and their managers. This process will also address career
opportunities by more clearly identifying the positions and activities that drive strategic value for the
organization and by ensuring that we have the right people in those roles.
Meet
JOHN WYATT
President - STANLEY Engineered Fastening
John Wyatt was recently named President – STANLEY Engineered Fastening. As the cornerstone of our Industrial
segment, STANLEY Engineered Fastening is the world’s second-largest provider of engineered fastening solutions,
with major customers in the global automotive, industrial and electronic markets and a strategic position as an
Advanced Industrial Solutions provider.
15

Father of four, cyclist, world-traveler, woodland restorer,
and drummer. All of these descriptions give you a small
glimpse into the life of our new STANLEY Engineered
Fastening President, John Wyatt.
Born in London (UK), John has lived and worked in
many countries, including: Switzerland, South Africa,
Canada, Belgium and the United States. A keen cycling
enthusiast, he has completed numerous long-distance
tours and races, including: Paris to London, Brussels to
Paris, Newcastle to Edinburgh as well as riding across
Myanmar (Burma) his favorite and the Liege-Bastogne-
Leige race in Belgium “the most challenging with added
cobblestones”.
John and his wife, Caroline, have four children, two
born in the UK, one in Canada and one in the United
States. Currently, his children are working and studying
in London, Beijing and Baltimore, MD. During his
vacations he enjoys coppicing and restoring, protected
ancient woodlands in England with a range of Stanley
hand tools and now the latest electric chain saw from
DEWALT. “I learnt this old skill working on farms and
forestry as a teenager.”
John joined the company in 2006 as the leader of the
Consumer Power Tools business in Europe, Middle East
& Africa (EMEA). He has since held various roles within
the Global Tools & Storage division, including: President
- Europe, Australia & New Zealand (EANZ) and, most
recently, President - Global Sales & Marketing. In
early 2016, John was named President of STANLEY
Engineered Fastening, a $1.5 billion dollar business
providing fastening solutions for customers in the
industrial, automotive, and electronics industries. “The
most rewarding day so far this year has being with our
European engineering team at the JLR Range Rover
plant seeing over 3,500 Stanley self-piercing rivets (SPR)
build each new SUV coming off the production line and
then supporting the team win a $40m contract for the
new Defender series planned for launch in 2017”
Our Leaders in
the Community:
Don Allan
As part of Stanley Black & Decker’s commitment to
our communities, we strongly encourage all leaders
to get involved with charitable organizations in some
meaningful way.
“I ask each one of my executive leaders to choose
a cause that is important to them,” says John
Lundgren, Chairman & CEO. “And I’m proud that
they are representing Stanley Black & Decker in the
community.”
One leader who is incredibly generous with his time
is Don Allan, our Senior Vice President & CFO. Don
makes the time in his exceptionally busy work schedule
to serve as a committed leader to several different
organizations. Don volunteers with Boys Scouts of
America, Junior Achievement, United Way, and Easter
Seals.
He is the Chairman of the Board for the Boy Scouts
Connecticut Rivers Council, is a Board Member of
Junior Achievement of Southwest New England,
Annual Chairman for the JA Hall of Fame Event, Board
Member of United Way of Central and Northeastern
Connecticut, and Board Member of University of
Hartford Barney School of Business.
“
I am honored to work with these
wonderful organizations and I encourage
others to find their passion in giving back
as well. Every donation, no matter how
small makes a tremendous impact. It’s
employees who donate their time and
money that truly define our company and
our communities.
