Eliza Scidmore's Shawl<br />
Eliza Ruhamah Scidmore was an American writer,<br />
photographer, and geographer in the late 1800s and<br />
early 1900s. She was a frequent visitor to Japan, where<br />
she fell in love with the gorgeous cherry trees she<br />
enjoyed while there. With the support of First Lady<br />
Helen Taft, she was able to begin to seed Washington,<br />
DC with Sakuras, and it is thanks to her that we are able<br />
to enjoy these gorgeous blooms every Spring.<br />
