Alma Lou
I first knitted this shawlette for my mother, Alma, for her
birthday. We call her Alma Lou, because her middle
name is, quite surprisingly, Lucretia. I wanted something
simple, with a bit of frou-frou, but not too much. Eyelets
seemed to be the way to go, and on a garter
background, they’re almost rustic. This is a simple
pattern with enough interest to keep you going.
Teachable Skills
•Increasing
•Differentiating front and
back on garter stitch (i.e.,
reading your knitting)
•Working simple mesh
lace
•Applied I-Cord Bind Off
Skill Level
Advanced beginner
Needles
US4/3.5mm circular
needle, 24" or longer, or
Yarn
Approximately 350-400
yards of fingering-weight
yarn.
16" deep at center back.
for moremoremore. Give in to Ananke and knit one for
yourself (or a friend)!
DC with Sakuras, and it is thanks to her that we are able
Fall Ramble
This pattern truly was a labor of love. I loved the flow of
the lacy chevron pattern. I loved the quickness of the
knit. I loved the feel of the Imperial Stock Ranch yarn. I
loved how the test-knit turned out in Silky Wool. And I
love wearing these leg warmers. I’ll be rambling all
around town in these this winter, and that’s something
I’ll love to do, too.
Girlfriend Leg Warmers
These leg warmers are as much fun to knit as they are
to wear, and it makes it even better if you do both with
one of your best girlfriends! The striping is soothing and
Good Neighbors
This light and airy scarf reminds me of picket fences and
neatly pruned boxwood hedges on, let’s just say, a
bucolic country lane in a Jane Austen novel. Beads on
each edge give it the pleasant sparkle of conversation
with neighbors met on a balmy summer evening’s
stroll… Or, snapping back to reality, it calls to mind
more… dynamic… city backyards. In summer that’s
where we play and eat and cook and garden and nap
and generally do everything we can.
Hazelwood
I live in a part of Portland that’s a bit more off the
beaten path than I ever thought I’d live. It’s East of 82nd.
But, I’ve grown to really love the little neighborhood
we’re calling home these days. Three playgrounds
within walking distance (a boon for my littles), a big
yard, and a great Thai place pretty close by. Hazelwood
is the perfect neighborhood for my family, and this is the
perfect sweater to throw on when going for long walks
