RECIPE
For Good Teeth
Best Read To Curl Up With This Winter
Ok so its cold outside and winter is
well and truly upon us. Could there be
a better way to pass a few hours than
curled up with a blanket on the couch
with a fantastic book? Thought not…
here is our top pick for a great read this
winter!
Dancing on Knives, By Karen Forsyth.
Random House. RRP $32.99
Dancing with Knives is more than your
standard murder mystery. It is also a
lyrical love story that takes its reader
on a path of discovery. It shows us how
family can not only constrict us but also
liberate us, how art can bring both joy
and destruction and how strength is not
always what it seems and can be found
in the most unlikely of places.
A suspenseful murder mystery with an
interesting twist, Dancing on Knives
is a dark, complex and incredibly well
researched book that examines human
nature at its most raw. A beautifully
written book that will have readers
engaged and entranced from start to
finish - a must read this winter.
Relax, snuggle up and enjoy!
You know the old adage ‘you are what you
eat’ well in the case of your teeth this saying
bares some consideration!
You may think that looking after your teeth is
all about dental hygiene and what foods NOT
to eat but in fact there are actually foods that
you should be eating that can contribute to
good tooth health.
Most people know what foods that they should
not be eating but are unaware of what foods
that they should be eating for their teeth. A lot
of foods that actively work to help starve off
cancer, diabetes, obesity and heart disease
can also work to help prevent common
oral health problems, like tooth decay, gum
disease and cavities.
Most plant-based foods are good for your
teeth. Basil for example can help reduce
bacteria in your mouth whilst kale is full of
antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients,
which promote gum health.
Calcium-rich foods, in moderation, are also
good for your teeth as they provide extra
calcium, which fights off decay.
Each month, Chatter Magazine will give its
readers a delicious recipe that will not only
tantalise your tastebuds but also help to keep
your teeth healthy and strong.
In this, our first issue, we bring you a delicious
carrot-pineapple and ginger salad that is
packed full of flavour and provides a powerful
nutritional punch. The carrots help to scrub
and clean the teeth whilst the pineapple acts
to “whiten” the teeth and the gingers antiinflammatory
prowess help your gums stay
healthy. Enjoy!
Carrot, Pineapple and Ginger Salad
Serves 6 (as a side dish)
Ingredients
• 2-3 large carrots
• 1 medium pineapple, peeled and cored
• ½ teaspoon ginger, grated
Method
• Wash, peel and grate carrots
• Cut the pineapple in half. Cut one half of
the pineapple into chunks and place in
the blender and blend until slightly
smooth but with some texture (not like a
smoothie).
• Place the remaining half of the pineapple
into a glass-mixing bowl. Use a sharp knife
to cut the pineapple into bite size pieces.
• Add the grated carrots, blended
pineapple and grated ginger to the
mixing bowl and gently mix to combine.
• Refrigerate for at least one hour before
serving.
