Revista del Instituto Español de Estudios Estratégicos (IEEE) Núm. 7 / 2016 Abstract This article aims to reflect on how to configure the security forces in Colombia, once the guerrilla ceases to be the main threat to the country. By analyzing the current scenario of insecurity, regional and Colombian level, it is intended to show what forces might be more convenient to deal with the threats. Two options were considered: those that cover very different missions, under the heading of multifunction forces or those who, despite their versatility, are specialized forces in certain threats. Colombia can become a reference, guiding the configuration of its forces towards specialization, as a model most suitable strength to face the complex scenario of insecurity. To enable this specialization, with the SAF and the police, a police force with military status intends to release these forces missions. This would make it possible to release existing forces carrying out missions for which they are unprepared while the third force could also specialize, particularly, in the prosecution of organized crime. Abstract
This article aims to reflect on how to configure the security forces in
Colombia, once the guerrilla ceases to be the main threat to the country.
By analyzing the current scenario of insecurity, regional and Colombian
level, it is intended to show what forces might be more convenient
to deal with the threats. Two options were considered: those that cover
very different missions, under the heading of multifunction forces
or those who, despite their versatility, are specialized forces in certain
threats.
Colombia can become a reference, guiding the configuration of its forces
towards specialization, as a model most suitable strength to face the
complex scenario of insecurity. To enable this specialization, with the
SAF and the police, a police force with military status intends to release
these forces missions. This would make it possible to release existing
forces carrying out missions for which they are unprepared while the
third force could also specialize, particularly, in the prosecution of organized
crime.
