Daud Research Interests: Our group at UCSF is focused on developing new immunotherapy agents and
specifically understanding the biology of the immune response to PD-1 in melanoma. We developed IL-
12 gene therapy in melanoma and carried out the first in human clinical trial in 2005-2007. Based on this
work, IL-12 electroporation is being explored in many cancers as an immune agent and as a combination
treatment with PD-1 and other checkpoint inhibitors in melanoma. I have been involved in the development
of anti-PD-1 antibodies for melanoma. With my colleagues Michael Rosenblum and Max Krummel at
UCSF, we have developed a novel assay that profiles the intra-tumoral microenvironment in depth and can
predict non-response to PD-1. We are currently exploring novel strategies for PD-1 non-responsive subsets
of melanoma (and potentially other cancers).
