Momentum in Full Swing for Holliston in Bloom
May was a very busy month for
Holliston in Bloom! Thanks to all
the volunteers who came to our
Spring Clean-up at Blair Square/
Rail Trail on May 7. Despite the
cool, damp weather, we had a total
of 23 people - of all ages, including
Girl Scout Brownie Troop
89238. A mild winter and many
hands helped make the clean-up a
breeze!
The HBA Spring Festival was
very well attended on May 14
and the weather was picture perfect.
Holliston in Bloom gave out
over 200 marigold seedlings who
wanted to bring home the town
flower. The uber-talented (and
winged) Tate sisters Sammy and
Maddy worked their fairy magic
with face paints and brushes. Even
a couple of adults sat down to get
the special treatment! Our Fairy
& Toad Garden contest attracted
its first toad abode this year. Our
young participants all waited anxiously
for the judging at the end of
the day and each won a prize.
On Sunday, May 15, a group
of 20 volunteers descended on
the Holliston Police Station for the
second phase of Brandon Battick’s
Eagle Scout project. Brandon’s
project included renovating some
existing beds, and creating new
beds near the entry and exits of the
Police Station. Phase I involved
removal of grassy areas and overgrown
shrubs at the foundation,
and adding compost to the new
beds. Several Holliston in Bloom
PHD’s (professional hole diggers)
joined Eagle Scout Brandon Battick,
Boy Scout Troup 72 along
with several parents, Selectman Jay
Marsden and his family, and Mark
Ahronian of Ahronian Landscaping
at the Holliston Police Station.
New perennials and annuals were
planted in the large beds, new
shrubs replaced the overgrown
rosebushes, plants were to Officer
Johnson’s memorial under
the Moon Tree, mulch was spread
onto the new and existing beds,
and another team also weeded
the rear slope. Upon completion
of the work, Lieutenant Denman
presented a Certificate of Appreciation
from Police Chief Moore.
All plantings were donated by the
Huntington/Cohen family, Ahronian
Landscaping, and Holliston
in Bloom.
We want to thank Michelle
Savino for her generous support
for our Fashion Show on May 22
at Upper Town Hall. Her salon
not only styled all the hair fashions,
they donated raffle prizes and
wine, and also coordinated the entire
show. We also appreciate our
friends at Fine Feathers in Medway
for providing the fun fashions and
accessories for the models, Dave
