Project Case Study
Project: Bluewater Kitan
Type: SURF
Location: Timor Sea (JPDA)
Workscope:
Our client, Bluewater, required an experienced
contractor to meet an extremely tight schedule for
work on the Kitan project in the Joint Petroleum
Development Area (JPDA), Timor Sea. The workscope
included the installation of a six part mooring spread
and the subsequent hook up their FPSO Glas Dowr.
The work was carried out in two separate campaigns
with the first involving the installation of six anchor
piles, each with a kilometre of bottom chain, 300m
of wire and 70m of top chain. To successfully deliver
this phase, Subsea 7 utilised its heavy construction
vessel the Skandi Seven. The second campaign
involved hooking up the six mooring legs installed in
the first campaign to the FPSO Glas Dowr, utilising a
chartered vessel, the Mermaid Challenger.
A notable success of the Kitan project was the
technical challenge associated with the use of a
cross-tensioning tool, utilised to cross tension three
mooring lines at a time. The work was completed
successfully, to schedule and without any incidents.
Subsea 7’s Community Commitment
Subsea 7 is committed to making a positive contribution to the
communities in which it works. In the Asia Pacific & Middle East
Territory, Subsea 7 has developed a number of long-term partnerships
which promote education in engineering, enable the transfer of business
knowledge and technology and provide charitable support.
In Singapore, Subsea 7 has worked very closely with MINDSville@Napiri,
one of the residential homes run by the Movement for the Intellectually
Disabled of Singapore (MINDS). Following a very successful donation
drive (staff donated canned goods, home wares, etc) in the office, staff
members personally delivered these gifts to residents at Napri.
In Australia, the Sapura 3000 raised funds through for charity by reaching
a designated safety target onboard the vessel. The crew nominated
the charities that donations went to and in 2011 significant sums were
donated to Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, Doctor Service,
Cancer Council and Prostate Foundation Cancer Australia.
In addition to this, the Variety Club, an Australia-wide non-profit
organisation empowering children who are sick, disadvantaged or who
have special needs, has been the beneficiary of funds raised by the
Rockwater 2 for reaching its safety targets while performing work off the
Darwin coast. The Variety Club plan to spend Subsea 7’s donation on the
purchase of a frame suitable for a Spina Bifida patient, which will enable
them to have the use of their hands to draw and paint.
Our nominated charity for 2012 is the Leukaemia Foundation which
provides services and support for patients across Australia with
Leukaemia, including housing during treatment for patients and their
families, research and fundraising events across the nation such as the
World’s Greatest Shave.
