Not a high profile player but Coach Dessarzin knows he can count on his energy and team
dedication. Undersized for a shooting guard, Konaté is not a tremendous outside shooter either
but more of a streaky gunman. “His game is very atypical and deceiving”, Dessarzin explains.
“In terms of energy and good will, he is comparable to Solo Diabaté. For his position, he lacks
size, of course, but his athleticism helps him compensate. He looks like he is a young player
but, in fact, he is 30! His game is very spectacular. Last year, at the Africa Championship, he
did a great job against Nigeria, when we decided to put a lot of pressure on the ball.” In fact, in
the first round, Konaté turned out to be the top scorer for the Elephants (13.3ppg).

Charles-Noé Abouo is yet to make a name for himself in the professional game since he has
only just turned 21 and is patiently learning the game in the NCAA. Nevertheless, he has
already proven that he has a knack for basketball, and he certainly has a winning mentality. At
the 2009 FIBA Africa Championship, he was not necessarily on the front row, mostly because
of his inexperience but when Coach Dessarzin called his number, he answered. His 15 points
and 6 rebounds explosion against Egypt confirmed there was room for him to shine at this
level. Then, in the final game, against the might of Angola, Abouo gave his team a serious
boost off the bench with 9 points in 12 minutes to keep his team alive. A native of Cocody in
the Eastern part of Abidjan, he learnt basketball in the USA where he settled at the age of
seven. After successful years in high-school both in Utah and in New Hampshire, where he
broke most scoring records, he became a full-time member of the Brigham Young University
basketball team. His game has still to be fully polished and his statistics have not yet caught
the attention of the NBA scouts (4.6ppg in his sophomore year), but this athletic forward, who
can be described as a hard worker and a restless student of the game, can already do a lot
of things at both ends of the court. “If I had to describe my game, I would say versatility”, he
says. With the body frame of a small forward and the foot work of a guard, Abouo can fill in the
blanks for Ivory Coast. The 2010 FIBA World Championship is the ideal opportunity for him to
become a little more than a just a prospect.

Last year, when Ivory Coast had to prepare for the FIBA Africa Championship without most
of their players, Soumahoro had a lot of playing time and responsibilities. But in Libya, he
was still too inexperienced to really get involved. His 2010 season with Strasbourg in France
was equally frustrating. He played a total of 14 league games, for a scoring record of 8
points against Pro A finalist Le Mans. But, still, Coach Dessarzin sees a future in the skinny
forward who can do a little bit of everything. “What I like about him is that he is never shy of
taking open shots. He is never scared of anything and will answer immediately when offered
responsibilities.”

oyuncusu oldu.

Charles-Noe Abouo profesyonel maçlara adını yazdırmak üzere çünkü henüz 21 yaşına

15 sayı ve 6 ribaunt ile oynaması daha da güçleneceğinin bir kanıtıydı. Daha sonra final
maçında Angola gücüne karşı Abouo takımını yüreklendirdi ve 12 dakika oynadığı maçta 9
sayı kaydederek takımı ateşledi. Cocody yerlisi olan oyuncu basketbolu Amerika’da öğrendi
ve yedi yaşında buraya yerleşti. Hem Utah hem de New Hampshire’da başarılı bir lise hayatı
geçirdikten sonra Brigham Young University basketbol takımının tam zamanlı oyuncusu oldu.
Oyunu üzerinde hala çalışması gerekiyor ve istatistikleri de NBA casuslarını etkileyecek kadar
yüksek değil (ikinci sınıfta 4.6 sayı ortalamasına ulaştı) ama atletik özellikleri ve çalışkanlılığı
sahanın her iki tarafında da işe yarayabilir. “Eğer oyunumu tanımlamam gerekirse, çok yönlü
diyebilirim,” şeklinde konuştu. Kısa forvet boyuna ve bir guardın ayak oyunlarına sahip Abouo
Fildişi Sahilindeki boşluğu doldurabilir. 2010 FIBA Dünya Şampiyonası, bir ihtimalden daha
fazlası olduğunu göstermesi için ideal bir fırsat.

Geçen yıl Fildişi Sahili birçok oyuncusundan yoksun olarak FIBA Afrika Şampiyonası’na
hazırlanmak zorunda kalınca Soumahoro sorumluluğun büyük kısmını üstlendi. Ama Libya’da
hala oyun anlamında deneyimsizdi. Strasbourg, Fransa ile geçirdiği 2010 sezonu da pek
parlak sayılmazdı. Toplamda 14 lig maçında oynadı ve Pro A finalisti Le Mans’a karşı 8
sayı kaydetti. Ama yine de antrenör, her şeyden biraz biraz yapabilen oyuncuda bir gelecek
görüyor. Antrenör, oyuncusu hakkında “Onun en sevdiğim özelliği açık şutları hiçbir zaman
kaçırmaması. Hiçbir şeyden korkusu yok ve görev verildiği zaman anında yerine getiriyor”
şeklinde konuştu.
