There has been a real dearth of quality point guards emerging in German basketball – or
at least in comparison to the potential gems being uncovered in the frontcourt. Per Gunther
is something of an exception and is still getting better in his role as a young playmaker. He
shrugged off some early season injury worries to enjoy a second consistent season with Ulm
and could find himself thrust into the action as the back-up point guard. While he has the
talent, Bauermann will have to be convinced he also has the maturity to handle the ballpressure
that will inevitably come his way if given an opportunity. He doesn’t have much of a
perimeter shot and needs to pick up his defence at this level although it is good considering
his lack of size. Gunther was meant to travel to EuroBasket last year but got injured and now
he is definitely someone who could flourish if handed some experience on the floor in Turkey.

While never a player who will sparkle in terms of offensive production, Hamann is a steady
and defensive-minded player that Coach Bauermann likes because of his ability to understand
what is required at this level. This close relationship can be traced back to the pair working
together for years in Bamberg and Hamann has been – and continues to be – a terrific servant
to the National Team. Another experienced player who has the ability to show leadership on
the floor and knows how to get the job done. What he naturally lacks in playmaking, scoring
ability and outside threat, he makes up for with his ability to penetrate to the basket and find
his team-mates. At the defensive end of the floor and in all-round hustle situations, there are
few better. He probably didn’t have the best season of his career with Alba Berlin last year but
you pretty much know exactly what you are going to get – a priceless factor for his Coach,
team-mates and the fans.

Last summer, Coach Bauermann expressed his torture at having to leave out Idbihi from the
final 12 that made the trip to EuroBasket 2009. This time around, the forward is hoping he
can bring a little more to the table than the effort and passion which impressed his coach so
much. If he gets the nod, it will only be to come off the bench as a role player when needed.
Despite this, Idbihi is reliable enough to produce some solid interior moves and as he has
shown at club level during the last three seasons in the Bundesliga, he can definitely score
inside and is a proficient rebounder. He had a more than solid 2009-10 season and can do a
job for Bauermann and the team if he squeezes in, although he is highly unlikely to see any
serious court-time. However his confidence will have been lifted by a move to Alba Berlin for
next season where he will have a bigger stage on which to prove his worth.

Alman basketbolunda ön alandaki doldurulamayan açıklıklar göz önüne alındığında, yeni
jenerasyonda kaliteli oyun kurucuların eksikliği hissedilmektedir. Genç oyuncu kurucu Per
Günther gelişmekte olan ve kendisinden büyük beklentiler olan bir oyuncudur. Sezon başında
geçirdiği sakatlığın endişelerini atıp Ulm’daki ikinci sezonunu yedek oyun kurucu olarak
tamamladı. Bauermann yeteneğinin yanı sıra, bir şans verilmesi durumunda top hakimiyetini
sağlayabilecek olgunluğa sahip olduğundan emin olmak istiyor. 3’lük atışlarda çok başarılı
olmayan Günther’in, fiziksel güçsüzlüğüne göre aslında iyi sayılabilecek olan defansını da
güçlendirmesi gerekiyor. Geçen sene EuroBasket’e katılması gereken Günther ne yazık ki
sakatlığı nedeniyle turnuvaya katılamadı ancak bu sene Türkiye’de şans verilmesi halinde
sahada tecrübe kazanıp kendini gösterebilir.

kapatıyor. Savunma alanının gerisinde ve bire-bir mücadelede ondan iyisini bulmak gerçekten
zor. Geçen yıl Alba Berlin ile kariyerinin en iyi sezonunu geçirmemiş olsa da Hamann,
antrenörü, takım arkadaşları ve tüm taraftarlar için paha biçilmez bir oyuncu durumunda.

fazlasını sahaya taşımak isteyen forvet, şans verildiği takdirde verilen görevleri en iyi şekilde
yerine getirmeyi bekliyor. Her şeye rağmen, Idbihi saha içinde güvenilir hareketleri ve son
üç sezon kulübünde gösterdiği başarılı oyunuyla kendini ispatlamış, aynı zamanda boyalı
alandaki etkinliği ve ribaundlarıyla adından söz ettiren bir oyuncu olmuştur. Idbihi, 2009-2010
sezonu performansından kesinlikle daha fazlasına sahip ve çok süre alması beklenmese de
eğer süre almayı başarırsa, Bauermann ve takım için önemli bir rol üstlenebilir.
