When Alain Koffi first arrived in Le Mans, nobody really knew what to think of him. He was
clearly a tremendous athlete but he lacked strong fundamentals. He had poor timing and
questionable hands, but he did show an amazing willingness to learn. Year after year, Koffi
turned from being just an athlete into a basketball player. Alain was even voted MVP of the
2008-09 French League. As his progress became more and more spectacular, his playing time
improved. In 2005-06, he showed he had become an authentic threat, both offensively and
defensively. After facing Le Mans in the ULEB Cup, Russian powerhouse Dynamo Moscow
were so impressed by the way he handled Papadopoulos that they offered two million euros
to get him. Koffi and Le Mans refused and a few months later, they both were crowned French
champions. Last summer, Alain signed with Joventut Badalona, but he struggled there (only
5.4 ppg and 4.0 rpg) and has decided to return to Le Mans for next season.

Totally unknown in Europe until 2004, Gelabale blossomed at Madrid under the tutelage of
coach Bozidar Maljkovic between 2004 and 2006. He scored a crucial three-pointer in Real’s
improbable rally in Game 5 of the 2005 ACB Finals. More importantly, although nobody knew
“Mike” when “Boja” recruited him, he started 23 of 34 regular season games for his ACB
debut season. He was always the defender assigned to guard the opponent’s top offensive
threat. He earned his first start ever with the national team at EuroBasket 2005 and went on to
become a regular starter, mostly because of his defence and ability to make the right choice
on offence. Gelabale (which means, phonetically: “I’ve got the ball”) was an important player
in France’s rally for a bronze medal during EuroBasket 2005. Drafted by Seattle in 2005, he
decided to go there before the end of his Real Madrid contract and that annoyed Maljkovic so
much that the Serbian coach benched him at the end of the 2005-06 season.
Mickaël started to find his place in Seattle during his sophomore season, but a very bad
knee injury during March 2008 put his NBA dreams in jeopardy. After almost two years out
of basketball, Gelabale came back to his beloved Cholet club last season and helped them
win an improbable championship trophy in early June. He has just signed with ASVEL for the
upcoming season, but a come-back to NBA business is still in the back of his mind (and the
NBA clauses concerning his contract).

Ajinca is one of the French prospects who some have suggested opted for the NBA too early in
his career. He is a true 7-1 player barefooted with a huge wing span and a soft shooting touch.
Very athletic and quick for a guy his size, Alexis will always lack weight to fight inside with the
“big boys”. After winning the U16 and U18 European championships and a bronze medal at
the U19 World Championship (respectively in 2004, 2006 and 2007), Alexis had every NBA
scout dreaming at night about his potential. However, as he left for the NBA after only one
professional season in Hyères-Toulon (in 2007-08), Ajinça appeared unprepared to cope with
the level and intensity. 37 games played over the past two years for just over 200 minutes
spent playing basketball have given some weight to his critics.

Alain Kofi Le Mans’a ilk geldiğinde kimse onun hakkında ne düşüneceğini bilemiyordu. Çok

sonra bu teklifi reddettiler. Geçen yaz Alain Joventut Bradalona ile anlaşmaya vardı ama orada

2004’e kadar Avrupa’da hiç tanınmayan Gelabele 2004-2006 arası antrenör Bozidar Malkovic
yönetiminde kendini gösterdi. 2005 ACB finallerinde Real için çok kritik bir üçlük kaydederek
dikkatleri çekti. “Boia” tarafından alınana kadar kimse Mike adını duymamıştı ve ACB açılış
sezonunda 24 maçın 23’ünde forma giydi. Rakiplerin hücum tehditlerini azaltmak için
savunmada etkili oldu. Milli takım ile ilk maçına 2005 Avrupa Şampiyonası’nda çıktı ve düzenli
olarak ilk beşte oynadı. Bunu da hücum alanında verdiği doğru kararlara borçlu. Gelabale’in
sözlük anlamı şu: “Top bende”. 2005’de Seattle tarafından drafta seçilen oyuncu Real Madrid
ile sözleşmesi bitmeden gitmeye karar verdi. Bu karar, Sırp antrenör Malkovic’i o kadar
kızdırdı ki Gelabele 2005-06 sezonunu daha çok yedek kulübede geçirdi. Mickael Seattle’da
kendi yerini bulmaya çalıştı ama 2008 Mart ayında dizinden ciddi bir sakatlık geçirince NBA
hayalleri tehlikeye girdi. Basketbolsuz geçen iki yılın ardından Gelabele eski takımı Cholet’e
geri döndü ve Cholet’in Haziran ayında kupa kazanmasına yardımcı oldu. Gelecek sezon için
ASVEL ile masaya oturdu ama kafasında hala NBA’e geri dönmek var.

tarafından fark edildi. Geniş kanat uzunluğu ve topa hakimiyeti ile tam bir 7-1 oyuncusu.
Boyuna göre oldukça atletik ve çevik olan Alexis saha içinde “koca adamlar”la mücadele
edecek kuvvete henüz sahip değil. U16 ve U18 Avrupa Şampiyonaları’nı ve sırasıyla
2004,2006 ve 2007 U19 Dünya Şampiyonası’nda bronz madalya kazandıktan sonra Alexis
dikkatleri üzerinde topladı. Hyeres-Toulon’da 2007-2008 sezonu boyunca oynadıktan sonra
NBA’e gitmek için hazırlandığında her türlü güçlüğe göğüs germede problemler yaşadığı
görüldü. Son iki yılda oynadığı 37 maçta sahada 200 dakikadan fazla varlık gösterdi.
