Until last January, Ante Tomic was still considered as a prospect. But as soon as he signed
with Real Madrid, he quickly turned his high potential into great talent and showed it was time
for him to play at the highest level. He will now have the opportunity to show it at the FIBA
World Championship in Turkey. The big man was born in Dubrovnik, where he started playing
basketball. He then played with Zadar youth teams before joining KK Zagreb in 2004, where
he integrated the senior team. Incredibly mobile for his height, he even played in the shooting
guard position when he was young, showing very good ball handling and impressive passing
skills. That’s why a lot of experts started drawing comparisons with Pau Gasol and Toni Kukoc.
But Tomic needed additional time to develop and played almost six seasons with KK Zagreb
to gain experience, confirming that you sometimes have to be patient with big men. In 2009,
he was named the MVP of the Adriatic League, averaging 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.2
blocks. This season, he could have earned the award for the second year in a row, being the
best scorer and rebounder of the competition with 17.9 points and 8.9 rebounds, but he left
Zagreb in January. He had caught the eye of coach Ettore Messina, and Real Madrid signed
him to a 3.5 year contract. The Croatian center quickly fitted into the squad and even became
the best player of the Spanish based team in the Euroleague, averaging 11.0 points and 3.6
rebounds. Tomic will play in his first major competition with the senior national team at this
FIBA World Championship. He will draw a lot of hopes from Croatian fans since Nikola Vujcic
and Mario Kasun will not be in Turkey.

Luka Zoric is a strong player with solid experience who could prove to be very useful to coach
Josip Vrankovic to complete his front-court. He started his career with national powerhouse
Cibona Zagreb and then moved to Germany and Slovenia before coming back to his native
Croatia. Before spending the last two seasons with KK Zadar, in his native city, he had
never played more than one season with the same club. He revealed himself with Sibenik
in the 2006-07 season, averaging 20.0 points and 9.9 rebounds in the Croatian League. This
season, he was posting 20.3 points and 9.1 rebounds in the Croatian League, and even 14.9
points and 5.7 rebounds in the EuroChallenge with KK Zadar.

Luksa Andric is a late bloomer as he hadn’t played for the National Team until he appeared in
the U20 European Championship in 2005. He started his career in his native city of Dubrovnik
and then joined Cibona Zagreb in 2002. He was loaned to Dubrava to gain some playing time
and experience and came back to Cibona in 2005. He then developed and got better year
after year. He had the chance to play against the best players in Europe in the Euroleague.
Last season, he was averaging 9.4 points and 4.5 rebounds and helped his team to reach the
Top 16. Time has now come for him to fly away from Croatia to play abroad and he signed a
two-year contract with Galatasaray Istanbul.

Geçtiğimiz Ocak ayına kadar Ante Tomic adeta bir maden olarak görülüyordu. Fakat
Real Madrid ile anlaşmaya vardıktan sonra yüksek potansiyelini muhteşem bir yeteneğe

ilk ciddi maçına çıkacak. Nikola Vujcic ve Mario Kasun Türkiye’ye gelemeyeceği için, Hırvat
taraftarların gözü şüphesiz ki onun üzerinde olacak.
