Damian Martin is an outstanding junior international and gold medal winner who has finally
added a perimeter shot to his arsenal and made the step up to senior international basketball.
Remarkably, Martin improved his three-point percentage from 19% in 2009 to an NBL league
leading 49% last year as he led the Perth Wildcats to the championship. Runner-up in the
NBL’s 2010 defensive player of the year, Martin plays much bigger than his listed 6-2 and can
hold down both guard positions, and is the type of player who always contributes much more
than the stats sheet suggests. At the 2003 FIBA U19 World Championship, Martin averaged
7.4ppg, 3.8rpg and 2.1apg as a starting guard, having his best game against the USA in the
quarter finals with 10 points on 4/4 shooting from the field.

Mills burst onto the world stage after an attention-grabbing debut series against the Tall Blacks
in August 2007 and his incredible Beijing Olympics, where he led the Boomers in scoring
with 14.2ppg, including 20 points against the USA in the quarter-finals and 22 points against
Argentina in pool play – performances that made the basketball world sit up and take notice.
He has speed that can change a game, outstanding vision and a sweet shot, and as one of
the few Boomers who can get deep into the defence, he is one of the most important pieces
of the group. After a season with Portland where he watched more than played, Mills will be
ready to explode back onto the world scene when play starts on 28 August. At the 2007 FIBA
U19 World Championship, Mills was equally stunning, averaging 14.9ppg and 4.6apg as the
Australians lost just one game, by a point to Brazil, on their way to a fifth-place finish.

The 2007 NBL rookie of the year, Newley was drafted by the NBA’s Houston Rockets that
same year and has since plied his trade in Europe where he made an immediate impact as
a Greek League All-Star, and in last year’s Turkish League playoffs, averaging an impressive
22.8ppg across five games. His speed going to the basket, combined with his three-point range
and remarkable vertical leap, make him an all-round athlete crucial to the Boomers success.
Newley was Australia’s second leading scorer in Beijing with 12.5ppg on 57% shooting from
the field. He recently signed with Euroleague club Lietuvos Rytas. Newley was an important
part of Australia’s gold medal winning 2003 FIBA U19 World Championship team, but really
excelled at the 2005 FIBA U21 World Championship, leading the team in scoring with 17.6ppg
at 48%, including 22 points against the miserly Greek defence in the opening game.
