In 2006, “Sloki” became the seventh Slovenian player to ever play in the NBA, after Marko
Milic, Radoslav Nesterovic, Sasha Vujacic, Primoz Brezec, Beno Udrih and Bostjan Nachbar.
Did he really deserve that honour? He only got to play 80 minutes for the Toronto Raptors
during the whole 2006-07 season (1.9 points and 0.1 rebounds). Maybe he got caught in
the hype of Benetton Treviso’s team-mate Andrea Bargnani and scouts fantasized about this
other tall European player with great shootings skills? Slokar is really a versatile big man but
he is said to be really shy - a mentality that does not quite fit for the NBA. So he came back to
Europe and since then has enjoyed a great career in Italy. He is now playing for Euroleague
powerhouse Siena. This year, his role with the National Team is going to be really important
with Smodis and Erazem Lorbek not with the selection in Turkey. He is going to have to be a
presence inside for Slovenia - especially on the boards.

Primoz Brezec is a big body. A player built to fight in the paint - strong and long. But Primoz
does not have the athletic abilities and the mind-set to be a great defensive player. However
he has great hands to score in the paint and good fundamentals. Now, he can even fire from
the three point line if he’s open. The career of Brezec is intriguing. He was kind of a late
bloomer, drafted in 2000 by the Pacers. It wasn’t until he joined the Charlotte Bobcats in 2004
that he really got to show what he was capable of in the American league. For two years he
was the starting center for the new-born franchise and he even scored the first ever basket for
the Bobcats on November 4th 2004 against the Wizards. During 2004-05, he finished fourth
in the Most Improved Player ranking with impressive numbers (13 points and 7.4 rebounds).
Since he left Charlotte, he has hardly improved. With the National Team after the retirement
of Rasho Nesterovic, he is now the starting center but his best competition with Slovenia was
back in 2006 at the last World Championships.

With Becirovic and Slokar, Vidmar was the Slovenian skeleton of Olimpija Ljubljana this year
in the Euroleague. After two years coming off the bench and not getting much playing time in
prestigious Turkish club Fenerbahçe, Vidmar decided to come back home. Vidmar is a talented
big guy who had a really great career with the Slovenian youth teams. He averaged 15.9
points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game during the 2007 U20 European Championship.
But now Vidmar is 23 and he needs to reach his potential. His season in Euroleague was
mediocre with 5.7 points and 3.1 rebounds.

ve Bostjan Nachbar’dan sonra NBA’de oynayan yedinci Slovenyalı oyuncu oldu. Gerçekten
bu onura layık mı peki? Tüm 2006-07 sezonu boyunca Toronto Raptors’da sadece 80
dakika oynadı (1.9 sayı ve 0.1 ribaunt). Belki de Benetton Treviso’lu takım arkadaşı Andrea
Bargnani’nin büyüsüne kapıldı ve harika atış becerisine olan bu diğer uzun boylu Avrupalı

Primoz Brezec dev cüsseli bir adam. Boyalı alanda savaşmak için yaratılmış - güçlü ve uzun.
Ama Primoz atletik becerilere ve iyi bir savunma oyuncusunun kafa yapısına sahip değil. Ama
boyalı alanda sayı yapmak için harika ellere ve temel prensiplere sahip. Eğer boştaysa üçlük
atış çizgisinden bile basket atabilir. Brezec’in kariyeri ilgi çekici. Pacer tarafından 2000’de
draft edilen ve geç olgunlaşan bir oyuncu. Ancak 2004’de Charlotte Bobcats’e katıldığı zaman
Amerikan liginde başarılı olacağını gösterdi. İki yıl boyunca başlangıç pivotu oldu ve hatta
4 Kasım 2004’de Wizards’lara karşı the Bobcats’de ilk basketini attı. 2004-05’de etkileyici

Vidmar Becirovic ve Slokar’la birlite bu sene Eurolig’de Olimpija Ljubljana’nın Sloven iskeleti
oldular. İki yıl boyunca yedek kulübesinden çıkıp prestijli Türk takımı Fenerbahçe’de pek fazla
oynama fırsatı bulamayınca Vidmar evine geri dönme kararı aldı. Vidmar Sloven gençlik
takımlarında harika bir kariyeri olan yetenekli bir pivot. 2007 U20 Avrupa Şampiyonası’nda
15.9 sayı, 9.8 ribaunt ve 1.3 blok ortalaması yaptı. Vidmar şimdi 23 yaşında ve potansiyelini
ortaya çıkarmaya ihtiyacı var. 5.7 sayı ve 3.1 ribauntla Eurolig’de bu sezonu ne iyi ne de
kötüydü.
