Ilove every good interior style! The attentive readers surely noted that. The 

many varieties of styles are the best thing about the interiors. Some like the 

country style and some the Scandinavian style, but I just like them all. The 

conditions are that the interiors should have a soul, they must be authentic 

and in proper style. You also can create your own interior style by mixing 

together different elements, so-called eclecticism. The possibilities are endless. 

That is exactly the point the Faible Living magazine differs from other homes 

magazines, because we celebrate every good interior style! The world is big, also 

the world of the interiors. Therefore this issue is specially dedicated to the most

THE MODERN CLASSIC 

A 

lot of things come and go, but classics remain. 

Because classics are timeless beautiful. There 

are always a lot of new products, but only very 

few of them become a classic. This only shows 

a few decades later. That is the fascinating about classics, 

because nobody can tell whether a todays design 

will be a classic in the near future. But who or what defines 

classics? A classic design defines itself. It is unique, 

unmistakable and absolute perfection in the proportion. 

The designs are timeless and nobody noticed the year it 

was created. Another important aspect is that a classic 

is a good seller, because it is coveted. A good example is 

the legendary lounge chair from Charles and Ray Eames. 

Since it was launched sixty years ago, you find it in the 

interiors until today. But there is a new competitor: The 

‘Bruno’ lounge chair (in the picture above). It was designed 

in 1997 by Mats Theselius for the Swedish brand 

Källemo. Lately this chair with the characteristic hind 

legs was seen in many interiors and magazines. So it is 

not surprising, this chair is interesting and amazing. It’s 

about twenty years old, but still very modern. It’s a

God created man and woman – and 

the snake. The serpent seems right from 

the beginning the star among the animals. 

This mythical reptile is fascinating, 

elegant and really fashionable!

Snakes often appear in 

various stories, movies 

and mytho logies. The 

most famous role of a 

snake is in the beginning 

of the Bible where 

it seduces Adam and 

Eve to bite in a delicious 

red apple, that God himself 

has forbidden, you know how the story 

continues. Since then this reptile 

is classified as mean, devious and devilish. 

Whether as Kaa in ‘the jungle 

book’ or as Medusa in the Greek mythology, 

it only plays evil characters in 

myths, novels and films. Clearly, this 

malice is not fair, because not all species 

are dangerous. But these associations 

with the evil is the fascination 

of this shy animals. That is transferred 

to fashion and interiors. Serpent design 

is currently experiencing a revival. 

The beauty and elegance of colourful 

snakes decorate almost everything, 

from fashion accessories to the home 

accessories, for example shown by the 

beautifully hand painted plates from 

the Milanese porcelain manufactory

of the first moves of the serpent trend 

in fashion was last year from the designer 

Alessandro Michele, which was 

new as the creative director for Gucci 

at the time. Since then you can see often 

snakes as a fashion statement on

FRENCH 

COUNTRY 

The French style is well known for 

its nonchalance. In combination with 

some ‘Brocante’ elements, a modern 

French country style is created.

Especially during the summer 

the southern France is worth a 

journey. Because It is a multisensory 

experience. The scents 

of the lavender fields, the beautiful 

French language and the 

famous nonchalant style. There 

is a preference for the brocante 

style (the French way of shabby 

chic). This style uses only vintage things, that were 

bought at the flea market (brocante is French for 

flea market). Patina is not a problem, but desired. 

Because objects with patina have charm and tell stories. 

The colours are mostly in bright and natural 

shades like white, gray or beige. Depending on preference 

there are styles with exclusively shabby 

objects or in combination with some new things. 

The French country style is not the same as brocante, 

but a modern interpretation of it. The objects 

are not vintage, at most the porcelain dish. What remains 

the same are the gentle, subtle style, the use 

of natural materials like wood, ceramics, cotton and 

linen in bright colours.

Scandinavian design or Scandi 

chic is well established for a 

long time. It seems to be a style 

for eternity, because you never 

get tired of it. But what exactly 

is the Scandinavian style and 

why is it one of the most popular 

styles in the world ? To answer 

this question, we need to know 

first what and where Scandinavia is. Scandinavia 

is not a single country, it’s the Northern Europe 

includes the countries Denmark, Sweden, Norway, 

Finland and Iceland. It’s told that the northerners’ 

passion for furniture design came from the long 

nights in the North, when the people usually stay 

at home. It’s obvious the people take more care for 

the home when they spend that much time in 

there. The weightless, bright and simple design is 

a counterbalance to the darkness and the coldness. 

A further success factor is the uniform and 

clear language of the Scandinavian design. It’s 

normally reduced to the minimum, has pure and 

well defined shapes. Last but not least the greatest 

designers in the history, e.g. Arne Jacobsen, 

Alvar Aalto, Verner Panton etc., came from Scandinavia.

TUSCANY 

The ‘heart of Italy’ is also the most 

romantic part of this country,

Rustic and cosy, that is what you may think of the 

style of Tuscany, a region in central Italy. And you're 

right! There are old brick houses and chapels, olive 

trees and grape vines, scent of citrus fruits is in the air. The 

place is known for good food and drinks, preferably a 

good red wine. Red and orange shades are the colours of 

the sun blessed Tuscany, e.g. as house facades, walls or 

floors. There are natural materials like rustic woods, stones 

and a lot of terracotta, which origin is from the ancient 

Rome. The Tuscany style is related to the style of the 

French Provence (which is not so far away), but it’s more 

colourful and there are more delicate ornaments.

The love of nature does not end with the furniture.

THE HAMPTONS 

The coastal style of the Hamptons 

is one of the most popular styles 

and is easy to implement, even if 

you don’t live at the seaside. 


No other classic style is more 

summer than the Hamptons 

style, that consists of stripes 

in navy blue and white. This 

look comes actually from the 

sailors, but it associates also 

with the style of the Hamptons, 

that is located in the 

East End of Long Island (NY). 

This is obvious, because the Hamptons is a coastal 

region, where people sail, surf or swim. The seaside 

interior of the Hamptons is timeless and really 

popular, because it’s easy to implement. The basic 

colours are white shades. Stripes in blue and white 

set accents, e.g. as pillows, carpets or bed linen. 

Home accessories like model ships or photographs 

of sailing boats highlight the Hamptons Style.

love this style and are inspired by the Hamptons
