Redbridge Sports & Leisure Gym As always it has been a busy few months in which we have continued to develop our gym programme to meet the needs of all our users. It has proved exceptionally popular opening the gym at 6.30am as we are approaching the 1,000 mark of visits. So if you have not tried an early morning training session before work, now is the time to do so and start your day with an adrenalin buzz! If work gives you enough of a buzz itself, then may be you are more inclined to come to the Centre to relax and unwind. We are now offering Yoga and Pilates FREE to our Ultra Members. These two activities are part of our ever expanding range of studio based �� This is a range of classes, from Street Dance to Kick Boxing, designed specifically to introduce children to the benefits of regular exercise in a safe and fun environment. We continue to welcome new, highly qualified recruits with significant industry expertise to our Instructor team. They are all happy to offer advice in their chosen Badminton News Redbridge London Youth Games Team wins GOLD The team captained by Kushal Morzeria & Jenni Crisp were: �� Singles: Venesha Balakumar, �� Catherine Thomas & Natalie Crisp, Mixed Doubles: Kamrun Robinson & Emma Skingsley. Reserves: Danny Adams, Robbie Sheehan & Megan Griggs. Leagues Our winter leagues are now under way. This season we are running 14 teams in the local and county leagues, plus a very healthy junior internal league. All information can be found on our notice board. Plus the summer league winners. �� Championships The tournament was held on Friday 15th June. This age group is always exciting to watch, they �� up and they always give the benefit of the doubt. Mick Graves thought he had won the point and could not believe his eyes when Peter Skingsley ran like the wind, hit the shuttle cross court through his legs to win the rally. He took �� quite by chance that the last game in the box was between Alan Sheehan, Jatinder Panesar, Peter Skingsley & Cliff Ormes. Both pairs had played superbly well and had won all of their games to this point. During the final there were some superb rallies and shots from both sides, but Alan and Jatinder shone through and won the title for the third year running. New Generation of Champions Redbridge has certainly retained its family atmosphere in the badminton hall, with lots of our club members now bringing their children along to our club nights and playing in tournaments alongside their parents. On 13th July we hosted the Ladies Doubles Championships, the pairings included mothers, daughters and sisters. Congratulations to Venesha Balakumar and Catherine Thomas who beat Dawn Benstead and Sara Homes in a nerve racking final. �� A night to remember! Eleven pairs of adults and juniors competed in our annual championships. Daytime coaching sessions for individuals and groups. was very high and the games were competitive and well fought. Our juniors, champions of the future played their socks off and the adults played hard and gave them the respect they deserved. Matthew Lampard and Colin Jones retained the title for the third time beating Alan Sheehan and Tony Hicks in a great final. It was the end of an evening of excellent play. Page 6

Tennis Congratulations to Richie Fallows Dunlop U13 British Open Squash Champion RACKETLON For the first time on the 17th - 19th August, Redbridge hosted the English Racketlon Open. The event was a massive success. Following on from this, Redbridge will be introducing this sport with an Open Day in Janaury 2008. More information will follow on the notice board. What is Racketlon? Players compete in 4 disciplines, one after the other. Table Tennis, Badminton, Squash & Tennis. One game to 21 in each, the player with the highest accumulative total is the winner. Why play it ? *GOOD FUN *GOOD FITNESS *DO NOT NEED TO BE STRONG IN ALL SPORTS *DIFFERENT LEVELS (Beginner - Advanced) Why not give it a go. Play it once and you will be addicted! SUNDAYS SQUASH for ADULT BEGINNERS 10am - 11am £5 per session SATURDAYS SQUASH SOCIAL 10am - 12noon Resident Coach Good opportunity to meet & play different players New Tennis Courts surfaces on the outdoor courts @ Redbridge TENNIS CLUB On 17th September maintenance began on replacing the existing Astroturf with six new courts (three Astroturf and three Astroturf with rubber crumb granules). The work will take approximately 8 weeks and on completion Redbridge will be launching a newly designed tennis club. Anybody wanting more information please contact Matt Crane on 020 8498 1052. MINI TENNIS Following the very successful Red, Orange and Green Mini Tennis Tournaments at Redbridge in the summer holidays, our mini tennis players went on and played more tournaments around Essex.
