Olympic lockdown
Redbridge Sports & Leisure has
been selected as one of the 25
Games Time Training Venues for
the London 2012 Olympic &
Paralympic Games. Over £3m of
the funding towards the £7.6m cost
of building the New Sports Hall
came from the Olympic Delivery
Authority (ODA) so that the facilities
would meet the required
specifications for Olympic
competition. These world class
facilities will be available to all
Centre users from January 2012
and provide a legacy benefit of
London 2012 for the whole of the
local community.
As a result of this prestigious
honour, the Centre will be used
exclusively by athletes throughout
both Games periods. The Centre
will be hosting the following:
Olympic Games: Badminton, Judo
& Wrestling
Paralympic Games: Goalball
The majority of facilities (including
all indoor areas) will be unavailable
to members for an estimated fourweek
period in July/August 2012

This is a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity for the Centre to host
many of the World’s greatest
athletes, and has been essential in
securing the future of the Trust and
in the development of the New
Sports Hall which opens in January
2012.

NEW SPORTS HALL.

Ideal for parties, christenings,
weddings, corporate functions &
training plus many more events.

Outdoor Arena playing facilities will be
unaffected throughout; although the
pavilion is closed including the
changing rooms. A range of alternative
venues/solutions are currently being
considered for members use during the
lockdown period and Management
have worked over the last six months at
finding the most suitable solutions for
each membership type.
A decision on lockdown strategy,
including membership benefits and
charges will be made by the Executive
Board and all members will then be
informed in writing of this strategy. Prior
to a decision being made, Management
have embarked on a number of Focus
Group meetings across a range of
Centre user groups in order to gauge
member expectation and to gather
feedback which is shaping the
Management proposal to the Executive
Board.
