Jack Petchey REWARDING YOUNG PEOPLE The winners of the prestigious Jack Petchey Awards celebrated their achievements on Monday 12th September 2011 at RS&L with family members, coaches and Centre staff. All the children train at the Centre and won £200 each for their respective sport/club to either purchase kit and equipment, further training or club days out - the children have to suggest to their coaches how they would like to see the money spent. Overall the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards have provided over £50m in support of sports clubs and schools throughout London and Essex, and is aimed at young people JAN - JUNE 2011 WINNERS aged between 11-25. Outdoor Arena FOOTBALL JUNIOR FOOTBALL COURSE The Junior Football Course at Redbridge continues to thrive. Chris Gladman, Head Coach, is extremely happy with the continued success of the Saturday morning sessions, which sees new young players joining every week. Chris congratulated the coaches who are delivering high quality and structured sessions with a big emphasis on developing team skills to enable players to progress to competing in Sunday Leagues through the link with Newbury Forest FC. This progression of course attendee’s moving onto competitive play in the Newbury Forest Youth teams continues to work well. The kids thoroughly enjoy the Saturday training and then put into their games what they have learnt the day before. Some of the older players who have been coached over the past number of years on a Saturday morning, have now left the Junior Course to start training with Newbury’s senior teams during the week to continue their development. Chris would like to thank all coaches for their hard work over the past year and also the youth team managers that often make an appearance on Saturday mornings and provide input/feedback to the coaches regarding the previous week’s matches, so coaches can focus on drills/areas that require strengthening. With on-going aims to expand the Junior Football Course and the number of Youth Teams, more casual assistant football coaches Next Roller Disco: Saturday 17th December ............ & every Saturday from 14th January 2012 !! Applicants should be 18 years old plus and should have at least a Level 1 FA Coaching Certificate/ Qualification and some experience in coaching football to children. The Junior Football Course is always looking for players of all abilities ranging from 5-14 year olds. Redbridge Sports & Leisure Outdoor Arena BEALONIANS F.C. In the shadow of the new venue being built at Redbridge Sports Centre, nearly 1,000 Year 8 children across the London Borough of Redbridge come together to participate in a day of sports, including football, hockey, tennis, netball and rounder’s plus numerous others. As a Charter Standard Development Club, working through Bill Blackwell who is the club’s ‘football development officer’, Bealonians volunteers took a day off work to help organise and run the boy’s football event for the day, ensuring it ran to schedule, refereeing the games and working out the winners. This year’s event on 28 th September saw 14 schools enter a team playing in two groups of 7, with the winners of each group playing each other and the 2 nd place teams battling it out for 3 rd /4 th place. Trinity school ran out the winners, and the lack of video evidence meant any bias towards Beal school or unfavourable decisions towards Ilford County High School (Old Parkonians) went unproven. In keeping with the Olympic theme each school represents one country, and through each sport the winners get maximum points and so on down, creating a good fun competitive environment. On the football front, it was encouraging to see players attempting different skills, and one or two with exceptional ability and already part of the academies of clubs known to all of us. The slightly disappointing factor was the energy levels, but perhaps that was due to the exceptionally fine weather, which the Bealonian’s volunteers thoroughly enjoyed, nearly as much as their post-event review in the bar. An added bonus this year came as quite a surprise when we received this picture below (amongst others)! In conjunction with Adrian Newell, who has worked abroad on several occasions, Bealonains provided an old strip of our colours to be used in South Africa and clearly from the pictures we received back, it is being enjoyed by many (it seems a pair of our shorts has gone missing already looking at the back line). As always, Bealonians FC are looking for quality players to join the higher end of the club where our 1 st XI play in the Premier of the AFC (Amateur Football Combination). Hopefully, netballers will agree, that it was well worth the wait for our newly re-surfaced netball courts. There were a few teething problems to start with eg lights, footballs flying over the fences & onto the new courts 10-12 !! & some access issues, but all have now been resolved in time for the start of Essex Met league. You will all have obviously noticed the rise of the New Sports Hall from the old netball courts 6 to 9 at the Outdoor Arena? This brilliant new hall will, along with other sports & facilities, host 3 INDOOR Netball courts which can also turn into a show court with tiered seating (500 capacity). Hopefully we will have some Premier/Showcase matches to look forward to watching along with some AENA tournaments. Invites will be sent out soon inviting representatives from local netball clubs, Essex Met committee and other interested parties to come and have a tour of the New Sports Hall and of course to “try out” the new courts.
